April Patch : "Facilitating Friendly Play"
I’d say none of that has to do with friendly play .
The ability to rez other people (and be rewarded for doing so), to not have to fight over resource nodes, the general function that everyone on your server is on your side… these things are friendly play.
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

“Friendly Play” sounds like going to Kindergarten.
3 subposts for this topic, must be huge. I unfortunately cannot think of what kind of changes would involve ‘friendly play’
2. I miss the tedious, political, exhaustively glorious fun that came with collecting faction in order to improve and beat your fellow guild’s faction amount in your alliance and ascend your alliances to a better city. I miss the pride and political aspect of city conquering as well (again, all tied in with guilds).
Plz no.
The last thing that people need is grinding guild influence just to remain a member of that guild. I got tired of that kitten in GW1.
Friendly Play needs to be something to help people to play together more, more grouping, less singleplayer.
One great change would be one extra bonus from playing with parties on normal PvE maps, like having more luck, but i think this is not going to be something that will help PvE.
Asura thing.
Friendly play? That means buffing support roles. That’s what it has always meant.
Guild Wars is a land (zoo) of pink quaggan backpacks and purple haired rats, and horned cowcats running around. Brutal? Art? Ahem.

Well that’s the players choice to ruin an otherwise impressive environment. When I see the tiny Asian girls with minimum height wearing one of those backpacks, I die inside, trust me.

I’m guessing the new ele trait is a taste of this. And that more content like the aetherblade TA path or Marionette is coming.
In response to the OP:
1. I do miss guild halls, and I hope they institute them at some point. Even if it’s simply an instance where the guild can get together and have a place to call their own.
2. um… no…. One of the things that I have seen in these forums that absolutely makes people crazy is grind. The last thing we need is more grind. Maybe you remember it fondly, but I don’t, and I am sure I am not alone. GW1 had faction grind for Kurz/Lux, racial armor, and even rare mats. How many diamonds and sapphires did you get as drops? just no…please…no
3. Finally, even though you didn’t number it as a request, Player Housing is not a priority for me. Yes, it is in a lot of other games, and unless you RP a lot, or simply want to show off your stuff, player housing begats A.) single person play (nobody to help you build a home) and B.) More grind to get the shineys to furnish it. Some games even make you “rent” your house and decorations as a massive currency sink (I’m looking at you, Aion!) If they institute a Guild Hall system, then housing becomes redundant except in certain situations. I know a lot of people think it would be a nice addition, but in my opinion, it’s just a waste of time and money when you could be out there doing other things.
As far as “friendly play” goes, we got it pretty good. No node stealing, no mob tagging, and no real gear checks (except for “leet” players’ kitten) makes for a much friendlier game than any of the suggestions you offered.
Just call them what they are: a personal beg for housing, halls, and grind.
Facilitating Friendly Play is pretty obvious to me…
1. Change all races to baby quaggans
2. Change all attacks to “blow bubbles”, “act cute”, and “fly kite/balloon”
3. EVERYONE IS FRIENDS!!!

It doesn’t have to be a grind. There was a time before FFF that getting faction via alliance battles, jade quarry, and fort aspendwood were the main ways of getting faction. There was no grind about it in those things (they were fun activities in themselves). You could simply add some kind of control thing (towns, cities, buildings, etc) that guilds/alliances control and move up/down in depending on performance and the way they could move up/down could be based on influence. That way the more you contribute to doing ANYTHING in the game, the better standing your guild has. Right now all we have are the spreadsheet rankings on the website (ohh boy….). What we need is some real tangible reward for hard working guilds (and I don’t mean buffs/guild missions, I’m talking about something the guild can see and be proud of that they own it!).
I really hope it has something to do with how absurdly easy it is to abuse the party kick feature in dungeons & factals.
That would be nice.
What I kind of expect under Friendly Play are features like these:
- Adding Rewards for playing together in a Party rather than doing everything alone:
Example, For every added person in your Party, you gain +5% more Exp, Karma and Gold from Monster Drop,s pls adding for each player in your Party a 10% Chance to Magic Find, so that plöaying Content in a party woould make the game more rewarding and friendly, because people would start to want to play more together with others, regardless with whom, to profitate from the Party Buff for rewards.
This could get improved by giving each Class also a special class related Bonus Buff.
Warrior = Plus added Effect of getting cured conditions, when killing something.
Guardian = Pluss added Effect of gettign healed, when killing something.
Thief = Skill Cooldowns of Utility/Heal/Elite Skills recharge 5% faster
Elementalist = Characters move 5% faster and regenerate 5% faster Health in Downed State (added on top of already other Movement Boosts)
Necromancer = Condition Durations on you are reduced by 5%, Auto Attack leech Health
Mesmer = Boon Durations are 5% increased. Auto Attacks remove Boons or can interrupt
Ranger = Increases Ranges of Skills by 200
Engineer = Swapping Weapons/Attuning Elements gives random Boons.
Something like this would be imo an awesome addition to GW2 making the game more friendly to play, because each Class would become more meaningful, creating Synergies with each other and incentivizing players to play the game more together, because playing together would be more rewarding and fun simply.
- Adding new Guild Features, like
- New Guild Missions and new Guild Mission Types
- Guild Halls (has just something to do with social aspects of friendly play…)
- Improved Guild UI Features, like something that shows Last Login
- Improved Chats
Adding of the feature to create password locked Private Chats as an improvement to Whisper Chat so that you can chat with more than one person at the same time under privacy
- Fixing all of the Game Hacks, that ruin the game for many people.
Detection Systems against:
- Speed Hacks
- Wall Hacks
- Invisibility Hacks
- Gravity Hacks
- Fly Hacks
- Teleportation Hacks
- Stat Hacks
ect.
- Dungeon Improvements
- No Kicks anymore, when Dungeon Starter leaves/disconnects, instead Party Leader Change, people will get asked who should become the new Party Leader
- Changes to the Kick System in general, that players can’t be kicked so easily anymore, once a Dungeon has started.
- Anti Leeching
Improved Systems against Leechers in regard of Event Mechanics, Minigames ect.
That would be some things for the beginning, I’d really appreciate, if Anet would improve7fix these things within the Feature Patch.
Maybe they’ll discuss a way to get event participation even if you prioritize support over DPS. Or avoid adding achievements that encourage selfish behavior. Or dropping dead players from scaling calculations.

I’ve hardly played any game that rewards group play more than GW2 currently does.
In fact, it rewards it so much that, with most content being as easy as it is, sometimes I find it detrimental for the game as a whole.
Public groups, like WAR had. You form a party and can choose to have it public. Anyone coming near you can join your party by clicking “join”.
My guess is its a system to deter trolling. I wrong about a guy in JQ WvW that was wasting all our supply on flame rams in our keep. He did it for weeks so I wanted something to be done about it. After talking with support, I was told “we are currently working on a system to promote proper play”. This is the only thing that comes to mind when hear about this “friendly play”.
1. This thread was about predicting what the “Facilitating Friendly Play” would mean. That’s now revealed so this thread is obsolete.
2. What the hell are you talking about?
