Make aquabreathers a cosmetic slot that actives when you are in the water. Your stats/rune remain on your normal head gear. It’s already near impossible to get aquabreathers with the right stats/item quality. Just make them a novelty item and then add some cool skins to sell in the gem store.

Also, let people use underwater legendaries above ground. I want to make a sharkspear, but just can’t justify the expense of the t6 mats given its limited use. Free sharkspear!

Or just totally remove them, since we can’t even hide them.

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.

I would like that the gasmask skin could be applied to a aquatic breather item.

I would like to hide them as well, or at least have that circlet skin restored.

I somehow managed to transmute my breather. o_O

Many alts; handle it!

+1 YES.

One single head gear for stats, auto skin change on entering/exiting water. So much simpler.

agree 100%
something needs to be done about the aqua breaters, their current state is kind of ridiculous, why is a standard headpiece so rare and hard to get? you can’t craft it like you can other types of armor, you can’t buy it from dungeon vendors, it drops only very rarely or you can get some from very select karma vendors, want an exotic with your preferred stats? too bad.

Rather than adding all that would be needed to the game to have aqua breathers as plentiful as regular head gear, your solution is much easier and more elegant.

you probably just took one of the aquabreathers from the karma merchant in the bloodtide coast which have the look of land helmet/mask etc

Newp. Wasted a charge on it and everything. =P
I might have to double check to be sure (I think I turn off helmet appearance on my mesmer), but it had something to do with me being underwater at the time I tried to transmute.

There are two breather skins (out of four) readily available in every weight class. One looks like a breather and the other like a regular helmet. Chances are good you switched between the two.
