I’m sure there is a thread someone on this but I wasn’t able to find it.
Would it really be that hard to have weapons usable everywhere? There are so many awesome tridents that I wish I could use instead of a staff. Spears on land would be cool too.
They go to waste because there isn’t enough underwater content.

Does anyone know if this will be changing at all?

No one knows.
All we know for sure is that in the HoT expansion we’ll have no new type of weapons, so no aquatic weapons on land.

Bardy Belzebuson – Ranger Sir Belzebu – Herald
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)

It’s not that anet can’t do it, it’s rather they can’t be bothered with it.

They could have let us use staff and trident skins interchangeably ages ago. There is nothing wrong with importing a purely cosmetic feature from extremely niche, unwanted and underused content type. But anet are not salvaging their messes, lest they seem to acknowledge they are fallible.

They could actually make new weapon types, like tridents or spears, availible on land with brand new abilities. It would not be THAT hard to implement, but then again, anet only bother with class balance (something that’s even easier to tweak and implement) once every six months and the changes are always lacking. It’s like there are literally two people working at it at half time.

The rate at which anet produce new content and balance passes is well below industry standards.

I’m OK with having underwater specific weapons. Don’t really see a problem here, personally.

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….

Or expand the staff skins to use the underwater weapons. Some of them are really nice and all are underutilized.

Heck, make the underwater Legendaries a staff skin also. The Kraitkin as a Legendary staff would be awesome.

One of the videos for the new expansion showed what APPEARED to be a character wielding a water weapon on land. I suspect it is either a new skin for an old land weapon (such as a new staff skin that happens to look like a trident or spear) or it will be a new type of weapon that is used only on land. They might call it something like a “great spear” or whatever. Realistically, there is no reason that an underwater melee weapon could not be used on dry land, but there may be some game play reason not to implement it.

More puzzling to me are the water weapons that have sigils like “Grawl Slaying” plugged into them. I didn’t know those silly monkeys swam…

A little known fact about horror movies. If you ever find yourself in one, make sure you have either a flare pistol or a spear gun. Why? Because if you can hang onto it until the very end, it will surely be the weapon used to kill the monster/serial killer.

Alternatively it could be the weapon the killer takes from you and uses to kill you in an unspeakably horrifying manner, such as pinning you high up on the wall with the spear gun and then firing the flare pistol into your mouth, leaving you to dangle as a living (temporarily living anyhow) Chinese lantern.

Also, wear glasses, even if you don’t need them. Then, when things get scary, drop them and pretend like you can’t see while fumbling on the floor. The monster/bad guy will stand over you, waiting for the dramatic moment when you put them back on to kill you. Instead, you kill him with the flare pistol/spear gun while pretending to fumble for your glasses and get the last laugh . . . unless he’s in a hurry.

I’m disappointed that there is no spear flurry skill on land. It could totally work with swords. Or great swords.
