You talk about wanting Elementalists to have to choose between the ‘core’ traits of Evasive Arcana and Elemental Attunement, and totally forget that there is a THIRD Arcane Grandmaster trait. I know builds revolving around the Arcane skills are dead, but did you really need to kill them further?

Overall I’m puzzled because forcing people to invest in only 3 traitlines at a time actually does the opposite of promoting build diversity. I don’t get it.

Overall I’m puzzled because forcing people to invest in only 3 traitlines at a time actually does the opposite of promoting build diversity. I don’t get it.

The idea is that Grandmasters are supposed to be far more game changing than the ones before them, and now having access to three of them is a massive benefit. The only problem is that all of the stuff that you already had easy-ish access to is now suddenly Grandmaster or removed. Meaning that the builds are either going to basically be the exact same as before (ie. Staff), or are going to be extremely gutted (ie. every PvP build). It’s more an ele problem than a standard problem, as many of the other professions are only really losing out on the min-maxing portions they had before, while many builds are able to get use out of the additional Grandmaster trait with only a couple builds here and there really being crippled through the change.

Yeah, they killed off all non-staff PvE builds. Hopefully whatever weapon the Tempest uses is viable.

I was hoping they would make a build centred around Arcane skills and traits viable, but instead they went and made it even worse.

There is also a lot of unwanted overlap in lesser trait lines… and condition builds are all completely destroyed, for mesmer, necro, warrior, ranger… which is not a big problem for ele though, for elementalist conditions seems possible you can go medium conditions from power and toughness, unfortunately they only proc fire and bleeds… then again…. it allows for a different approach…

The fact though: Elemental Attunement and Evasive Arcana are competing for a slot, while the master trait line is meh… is a BIG dissapointment…

Oh and elementalist sucks at conditions. compared to most others it is …………. amoebicly powerfull… compared to giants and dragons.

23 lvl 80’s, 9 times map, 4ele, 4ncr, 3war, 3grd, 3rgr, 2thf, 2msm, 1eng, 1 rev.
Been There, Done That & Will do it again…except maybe world completion.

Ele never had a condition build for them to kill.

Also Elemental Surge is competing with Evasive Arcana and Elemental Attunement. Something Anet seems to have forgotten.

afff… dont know how others… but Mesmer got Huge buffs in conditions, especialy 1stack confussion per 1crit of mesmer or his illusions (bassicaly pistol will wreck ppl with bleed and confusion stacks and 50%cd reset if you interrupt som1)

I believe they mentioned during the stream that where possible, they liked to have one “narrow” trait choice (intended for a specific build or category) and two “general” traits. So I think they expect Elemental Surge to be this narrow choice: something you only pick if you’re going for heavy arcane usage in your utilities. But everyone else will have to make the decision between the two generally useful traits.

Maybe that doesn’t answer your concern, but I think they expect the difficult decision to be between Elemental Attunement & Evasive Arcana, while the Elemental Surge option should be obvious based on your build / utilities.

Mixing insults with your post is like pooping in a salad.
It’s pretty obvious, and nobody’s impressed.

And assuming a build gets ruined, so what??, you’re not meant to be playing the same build for years, for a bunch of people talking about diversity you cling too much to your builds.

Games change, you can either help make the change, adapt to the change, or keep complaining about the change while clinging to the past, and i’d rather be the former.

All classes are getting things shifted and modified, what makes you think YOUR current build will be balanced when thrown into the mix of all other classes and builds??, it’s not like only your own air or arcane ele builds are getting changed, EVERYONE’S builds are getting changed.

I think that’s exactly the point. Streamline the system (dumb it down even more ala the new leveling experience) to make it easier to balance and make sPvP more attractive as an E-Sport.

Well, actually now we do know. That was the whole point of the 4 hour long twitch stream. So they could go over what the traits are looking like in the current development iteration, what they are trying to achieve with their changes, and to open up the floor to feedback regarding their changes. Now is precisely the time to offer them our feedback, what we like, dislike, and why. True, we don’t need to whine about it. However, saying that we ’don’t know’ isn’t precisely true anymore.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

You should realize that Arcane was only ever a supplemental trait line for the other ones, right? It was support through and through.

Skills for Arcane included a crit trigger, blast finisher, cantrip shield, and a single-shot direct crit hit. 4 skills out of the dozens for the class were actually Arcane. And being that all 4 were utility, none of which were a heal or an Elite, that would mean at any given time a player could only have 3 out of the 4 on their skill bar.

And the problem with many of traits in the line was that it wasn’t really “choice” when it came to using specific weapons or specific play style. If you are a Staff Elementalist, you HAVE to invest in Arcane at least in Adapt to get Blasting Staff,…well not any more since that one is being pushed into being part of the actual character now.

They’re just changing it around because right now the builds are completely pigeonholed into specific ones only. This all the while that other builds are completely non-viable in many situations and overall are not used.

People are talking like ‘omg so what if your build was killed!’ Arcane skill builds never lived to begin with, despite having traits and skills for it. It is even worse now, so what is the point in these traits and skills? Useless filler?

Everytime I play a charr and get to that zone with the wall and the Ascalonian ghosts that have an arcane glow and use all arcane skills and frostbow that is actually arcane, I so want them to make an ele that plays and looks like that…

Especially when you need to sell a leg and one of your kidneys to get an ascended gear set. Which may very well become no longer relevant due to the build changes. Unless you are running a zerker, i guess. That’s a wonderful way to promote diversity and experimentation, Anet. Really.

…and this changes how in the new system? From what i see it’s going to be even worse in that regard.
