Yes, this is a serious question. There will be a tl;dr at the end.

When I started out this game nearly two years ago I decided to focus on a Thief character because it looked cool. I always revealed some issues with the class from start, but other players kept saying that it would get better once I reached Level 80. More issues raised up but people and I always found a way to just keep going on with excuses. So I continued playing, finished the story… and just got a liking out of the character. I did so much with this character in particular and completed all maps and all kinds of story instances possible that I just couldn’t let go of her.

And for the past six months, I’ve been working on the Legendary dagger, the Incinerator. It even made me take a 5-month break, so it’s been almost a year since I started working on it. It felt like a chore and like it was never going to end… I even made myself do a few borrowings from some in-game friends to keep things at a steady rhythm.

But just a few days ago I finally managed to forge the weapon… and it didn’t feel rewarding at all. I wasn’t really happy about it. The sound effects sometimes glitch out, the footsteps are inconsistent and the error in the flame’s animation and clipping is becoming more and more noticeable.

That really isn’t the really big issue here. My Daredevil is honestly the only character that mainly uses daggers. I have one or two other characters that do use a dagger as some kind of off-hand weapon, but they’re not played as much and they do not fully rely on said weapon. And now that I finally got my focus away from this “Legendary Journey” I decided to take a few things more seriously and tried dwelling into PvP and WvW and even other types of intense PvE mostly by myself. It seems like I have been denying all this time that I’m not exactly a good player to when it comes to a thief. I die, a lot. Doesn’t matter what kind of objective, build and items my character wears, she will constantly fail. I can’t even solo Story instances without constantly getting my butt kicked.

And I’m leaning on the idea of just dropping the character altogether or even delete her to make room for a new one. It’s just incredibly frustrating. I have spent so many hours and years dedicating time to a character that I absolutely hate now. This is why I’m asking if it’s possible to state the dagger back into its original state and even remove the skin altogether from my account’s wardrobe. I want nothing to do with it anymore and I would rather sell it on the TP to pay off some debts and give the money some other use.

I just think that I did an incredibly foolish decision.

Tl;dr: I spent nearly two years working on a character and then six months on a legendary only to find out that none of these was exactly what I was hoping for all this time.

Put 200 toughness on…and you wont die in pve…
also dont delete a toon, just buy anotehr slot. use that as ur mule.

Please nerf bag types instead of class skills!

I’m sorry for your frustration. There’s just no realistic way to do what you want.

I’d strongly urge you not to delete your toon. Instead, turn it into a storage toon — punish it for not returning your dedication by making it the mule of your account. Abuse it by filling it with all the useless stuff you hoard, give it blues & greens for gear.

If nothing else, you’ll still get birthday presents and can park it at a JP for some loot.

I’m afraid there is no way to ‘refund’ your Legendary.

You never know, the Dagger may be used by one (or more) of the upcoming Elite Specializations, so you may find it useful.

Good luck.

For that much investment into a thief, maybe try duelling with it a bit more and have other players help you out in order to learn it.

In PVE, try using invigorating precision on the critical strikes line whilst running bound. I usually find that is more than enough self sustain to solo most of the world content out there. I personally use staff however Dagger+Pistol is still considered overpowered when it comes to pvp.

Thief takes quite a bit to learn, don’t give up just yet!

If you really don’t enjoy the class though, Viper Necro uses Dagger offhand. That may be an option to consider.

Unfortunately there’s no crying over spilt milk for that legendary.

Other classes use daggers as well, so I’ll echo the sentiments above – don’t delete the, turn it into a mule, or place it by a permanent gathering node that’s out of the way and use it to gain a bit of money. That way you’ll still get the bigger birthday presents!

Then get an extra character slot and try out other classes that use daggers, and see if you like them!

Keep it around, and the dagger.

You may get a pleasant surprise in a few months.
Keep the character for birthday gifts, and fashion wars.

First off, it can be normal to feel exhausted after the first legendary journey. It takes quite a while and expectations build as well as many anoyances get pushed aside.

Now on to your class. I would ‘t worry to much. Maybe give thief a break or do some serious research into current spvp/wvw/pve builds. Don’t stress yourself with not being amazing at certain parts of the game. No one is yntil they get some serious practice under their belt.

On to dagger usefulness. Off the top of my head I k ow that necro and elementalost use daggers in meta builds. Necro is a god at wvw roaming and elementalist is still a very useful class in pve. Worst case you could use the legendary on one of these and get good use out of it.

Finally the legendary itsself, I always though incinerator was one of the cooler looking season 1 legendarys. The fact that thief could double wield the skin was just an awesome bonus in my eyes.

Wait let me get this straight…. you kept playing a class that you don’t like while making other ones that you don’t like for over the time period of 2 years? Did common deduction not tell you that you don’t like the class despite what people say? Like did the scientific method just stop working: hyp1: You like the class, alt-hyp : you don’t like the class, experiment: you play the class, result: you have a lot of issues with the class, conclusion: accept null hypothesis, you keep playing the class and even made a legendary for it? WHO IS FORCING YOU TO DO THIS? THAT IS THE PROBLEM, CALL THE LOCAL NEWS FOR HELP!
