I was thinking back on rewards when I thought up something that I’d like to post.

A while back (Like last year) I opened the daily log in box day 14 and picked (I think necromancer box of exotics) and I got a account bound Imryldyeen (exotic staff)
I thought nothing much of it at the time but now I wonder.

If it drops account bound named weapons, could it drop a precursor like Dusk?
I tried to find more information but the wiki didn’t have any details other than the basic description, and in the few minutes I spent looking on the Internet I couldn’t find drop research for it.
If someone knows the answer please post, or if you care to speculate join in! :-)

It is possible to get the Generation 1 precursors from that daily login reward box. If you do get one, it will be account bound.

OK neat! I guess that will be the only way I’ll get a precursor skin :-P I don’t have enough time to grind out legendaries.

It’s nearly impossible to do drop rate research on the boxes, because we only get one each every 28 days. I barely trust my own record keeping, so I doubt very much if we’d get reliable results from even 100 people. (For comparison, the wiki is lucky to get two dozen unique contributors for its drop data; it usually gets a couple of people who have collected 100s or 1000s of results.)

We can guestimate, by comparing the drop rates of exotics from other sources speculating that the chance of a precursor is similar to the results from forging four exotics.

One redditor received 37 non-bag specific exotics from over 25,000 champ bags, of which 17 were weapons, i.e. roughly a 0.068% chance. The chance of getting a precursor from forging exotics is about 0.13%. So there’s roughly a 0.00884% chance, i.e. fewer than 9 chances in 100,000.

And that’s just weapons; we didn’t take into account the fact that you could get an exotic armor piece or trinket. So it’s probably closer to 2 chances in 100k.

In other words you are extremely unlikely to get a precursor from a login reward chest. On the other hand, it seems likely that someone will get a precursor, given that at least 100k people are getting daily login rewards every month.

Are you sure? I’ll have to double check but I am pretty sure a friend got Leaf of Kudzu and then sent it to another friend.

Well… the chances are infinitesimal and there is no way to farm these so there’s really no way this could affect the market, I appreciate the replies.

You don’t have to have time, it’s going to take a long time, but you can grind out the legendary journey bit by bit. I’ve been working on Inferno since it started and I’m not through step two yet, but I’m making progress.

Indeed. I always feel bad for the person who finally gets to see the purple text, “this weapon is used to craft the legendary…” only to see it followed by Frenzy, Kraitkin, or Kamohoali’i Kotaki. “Oooh, Shiny!” they start to exclaim, followed by, “oh, right.”

That would be me! The only precursor I’ve actually obtained without doing collections, a Rage from the Mystic Forge using random exotics.

I’ve put together several Legendaries anyway, so it’s not the end of the world. But yeah. Rage.

Kamohoali’i Kotaki is a very nice spear with a nice aura.
