Are new players at too great a disadvantage due to nerfs?
Although a level 80 might think “That sucks, it was easier when I went through”, a newbie hasn’t tried it the old way and won’t know any different. I don’t believe the game was designed as a race by any means. most people tend to play it at their own pace and aren’t affected by these changes imho.
What?? Omg. Tell me you’re kidding. New players? Hello! We’re all new players. The game is new. Tweaking, adjusting, etc., will happen in a new game. It happens all the time in OLD games.
So. My answer would be, “NO.”

It depends, on one side, level 80s may stop charging for items/materials due to them already having gold they need OR they’ll charge ever more to even up the loss.
In my opinion, both things will happen, so it will even out and nobody will feel the difference. The real difference can make adding new content like they did with mystic forge so butter price from 1c went up to 10c, glob of ectoplasm from 20s to 24 and so on, and so on. The gold isn’t the problem, people won’t buy for more than they can aquire and people won’t sell for more than people can aquire. Items and their availability (drop rate/farm rate or whatnot) define the prices and the market.
And you lvl 80s who raced through everything to get your kitten as big as possible only to go Holy crap there’s nothing to do
How’s it feel to blast through everything with near exploitable means having paid $$$ to shoot through a whole game in under a week or so?
I wish I could say that going back to areas where I had a lot of fun are still fun simply for ’fun’s sake’ but that isn’t true. Leveling you gained things – like XP that meant more and gear you could USE. I have yet to see any piece of gear I can use anywhere other than buying from the AH.
And I have been 80 for two weeks whereas my guildies just reach it.
Ahh yes. The good ole days. I remember way back in August when we’d fall downhill and bump into three points of interest, a new vista and a pile of gold.
You kids have it very hard nowadays.
Now get off my lawn.

No.
It will have nearly no impact on anyone in the game who is not level 80 yet, and whatever impact it might have had will be erased within a month or two.
Thus is the mutable nature of living MMOs.

Pretty good.
While everyone has fun in different ways, I am definitely glad I was able to get a majority of my Nightmare set before the diminishing returns patch kicked in.
I just need to get my chestpiece now, and after doing it a couple of times, the rewards are down to 2.6 silver and 17,700 experience. Around there. While I do want the tokens, that is enough diminishing returns to make it not enjoyable.
The game has been out for some time now, not a long time, but enough that some players have been max level for a while or have utilized aspects of the game that no longer can be used.
Does this leave the new player who might be playing the game as “it’s meant to be played” in the dust because players have been able to get a jump not only in time played but were able to get gear/levels/gold in ways that are impossible now?
Are you serious? this game just came out like a little over 3 weeks ago. What is with these kitten threads.
Cooking for example costs at least 10g more to level now.
With the dungeon nerfs top-tier material costs will be going up again.
If you played non-stop the first 2 weeks you would be a lot wealthier and better geared than if you played for 2 weeks starting now, as you would have been able to obtain a lot of stuff before it was nerfed.

U jelly or mad? I havent been in dungeons before I reached level 80. I explored zones and did WvW so I’m exploit user? And hey, when you reach level 80 and it won’t take you 6 months to do it (because that’s just slowpoke leveling for sake of having an argument) I wonder how witty you’ll still be.
Well then I guess there was a reward for being the first players to race to 80 and eat up all the content. The rest of us are still enjoying the journey. The patient players will farm up most of their mats for crafting themselves instead of spending truckloads of gold to power-level it.

Gear in this game is earned, not dropped. The lower level places are meant for fun not endgame rewards, and you are scaled down so you still have a bit of a challenge. Not to mention you get achievements for exploring the lower level places you haven’t been to yet, so aside from it being new content you haven’t done yet, you also get Mystic tokens from the achievements. Also, the extra XP from going back to lower level places is still gained at 80, it just goes towards more skill points which you can use as currency in places like the Mystic Forge vendor for items that are used to make Legendary gear. The gear drops from those lower level places you can sell on the AH for gold, throw in the Mystic Forge, or disenchant for crafting materials that you can use to level your crafting or sell on the AH. If you want level appropriate 80 gear you either need to farm one of the 8 HM dungeons, karma, gold, crafting, or WvWvW. That’s a lot of content and a lot of possible gear sets.
