Are the complaints just from a lack of understanding?
Some of the complaints are legit, in regards to bugs and tuning of things though.
Thinking back, most of my enjoyment from Guild Wars was running through FoW for the umpteenth time with a random hodge podge of guildies, no real set builds, and just going at it. Then EotN came out, and it became about dungeons for awhile.

Well yeah, bugs are obviously bad. So many broken skill quests.
Alot of people hadn’t played the first part, they want other stuff in the game, like raiding etc
Also, GW2 pvp isn’t the best i’ve seen in mmo…

Yeah, Guild Wars was arguably better in some respects.
GW2 is more fun from a casual aspect though…RA was just rolling the dice on who got the monk.
It’s sad how this tread will probably see very little posting and will most likely fall by the wayside and it speaks more truth than most of them out there.

Yeah, oh well.
Regardless of everything, I have confidence in ANet keeping with their principles. I can’t see them ruining a masterpiece by adding on 20 man raid progression.
I hope they don’t add raids to the game. The lack of raids is one of the biggest hooks for me right now. If I wanted another run of the mill loot treadmill I’d play Rift or another one of the myriad of EQ clones in existence.
This is different. I like it that way.
I think some people are stuck in the traditional end game elitist dungeon raiding mindset.
To me most MMO’s endgame is lousy elitist jerk dungeon grind, and repeated dungeon raiding with elitist jerks isn’t fun to me.
At least GW2 gives you a fun WvWvW game to play during and after you hit lv80, along with a fun easy to group, PvE content all the way there. This is great for people who don’t want to put up with "guild drama, and jerks telling you about how much dps you need to have.
Some say it isn’t sociable enough, I disagree, since groups are easy to form and play together I feel more sociable than with standard MMO formulas.
I posted something the other day about raids, I’d welcome them if they could get them to work.
No gear “progression” though, that’s a game breaking virus.
I think it is also a mindset problem.
People are in the mindset from other MMOs about doing stuff for “rewards”, whats the best possible way to get the best possible loot. Whereas, with GW2, and with GW, it is basically doing stuff for the enjoyment. Yes, people did stuff in GW for titles or whatnot, but there’s no real reason to do that compared to just doing what you enjoy.
Don’t enjoy grinding AC for tokens? Do TA. Tired of TA? Do PvP. Tired of PvP? Roll an alt. There’s no loot treadmill to fall behind on.
I’m wondering when a game that is nothing but gear progression is released. I’m tired of every MMO I try to play end up with whining about lack of end-game after it’s only been out 2 weeks. Someone should just make a gear grind game and let everyone who wants that kind of thing go there.
It amazes me how many people say they want something new in an MMO and when they get it, do nothing but complain about how it’s not like their old MMO. GW2 is GW2. If it’s your cup of tea, enjoy it; if not, move on.
Releasing a skeleton of an MMO with an action-oriented combat system isn’t “getting something new in an MMO” imho. Sure, there are many cool ideas in this game, and I’m enjoying myself – but, a lot of things present in other MMOs were stripped out of GW2 for no good reason, really.

Like?
Mounts and gear progression?

Out of interest, what do you think was stripped out for no good reason?
It’s funny, cos I was thinking the opposite – a lot of really annoying or pointless stuff that I don’t like in MMOs was stripped out of GW2 and replaced with better mechanisms. It’s a shame they kept classes and levelling too, but you can’t have everything.
Lack of PvE content for large organized groups (Raids)
Lackluster character progression
It was advertised that this game would not have those things – and that those 2 items hurt MMO’s in Anets opinion. It was all over the web, in their MMO manifesto video. Dev chats and interviews.
It was made very clear to me very early on that those two items would never be in this game and for good reason. It’s why most of us bought this game.

Or they were stripped out because that wasn’t the type of game that ANet was trying to make.
inFamous, Assassins Creed, and Batman Arkham City are all sandbox games; yet they all differ from combat to story presentation to quest structure. Does that mean that only one of them was a true sandbox game?
MMO defines nothing other than a persistent world where multiple player controlled character interact at the same time. Nothing else defines an MMO.
So in essence this reply proves what the issue is, people came here expecting something other then what ANet wanted to make and are chafing at the change. They will either adapt or leave, but that also doesn’t absolve ANet from fixing bugs, but the design philosophy is not a bug.

I see what you did there.

It was everywhere. It is baffling that people come to whine exactly about that. The game is aimed at those who want something new, not more of the same. It’s not our fault that some people don’t read about the game they’re buying or simply don’t know what they want.
Naaah…its the same in every forum on any game you’ve ever played or not played.
Forums are where the malcontents and fans of the game gather. Everyone else is too busy playing to be bothered with this stuff.

I don’t bother to hide it. I flaunt it. My work is so taxing, they dare not complain about me reading this stuff.
