Are the dogs in the SW lab bugged?
its a secret plot to increase your death count number!!! BEWARE! but no, they do small little leaps that we view as teleports, it was just unlucky of you to be in the right place at the wrong time when it leaped. sorry bud.

I know what leaps you are referring to, but they do leaps around corners also? Have you seen in the minimap how the dog goes around the corner for like 900+ units?
This could be a way to artificially increase the difficulty, like one hit bosses.
But then again, What’s the point of doing the lab if is just this random? This mechanics does not provide any reward for skill or improvement, is just a lottery were you can get a puppy at your face in any moment.
So in this case, wouldn’t be better to just go for the big chest and forget the rest of the lab?
If there’s server lag, mobs rubberband. Wich means you see him far away, but he’s closer, and to fix this, the server teleports it to actualy position when he is (finally) ready to calculate it (but then sometimes bugs, back and forth again wich is rubberbanding). But basically ‘lag compensation’ as I call it (sometimes is close, but far on screen, to compensate, a ‘teleport’ happens, synchronizing reality, finally with you graphics, killing you in process. Could be this (been some nasty lag this weekend, during beta weekend).
No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option
No thanks to unidentified weapons.

When lag happens the mobs stay still, not moving, because your terminal is not receiving the updates from the server. This is not the case because you can see the dog moving in the mini map at constant speed, until it’s teleported in that corner in a split of the second killing you instantly.
You can see similar behaviour at minute 3:20 if you look at the map, how a couple of dogs teleport around like if the game physics didn’t apply for them. You have to see it in the mini map because although you can see for an split of second how the dog teleport in front of my, mostly happens at my back.
So is not because any lag
In reddit thread some pointed out that is a fault in the synchronization of the server internal pre-calculated position and the real position of the entity in game.
If the server is pre-calculating the actions of this dogs instead doing it in real time that could explain a lot of bugs found in this lab.
To explain it in a simple way: pre-calculate the result of an action in game is manly used in 4X strategy games and is used manly to save processing power when in a combat. That means, before the animations take place the result of the action is determined. That works when both sides are AI driven, doesn’t work at all when there are humans involved.
So if the dog before show any signs has already calculated that is has already hit instead calculating in real time if the attack actually hit you that could explain a lot of very annoying and discouraging bugs in this labyrith.
So that could explain why the dog can hit you no matter the distance, around corners, when in the middle of a dodge and across walls. And also in a very nasty way explains the teleporting around because the server has already calculated the supposed position and that the dog has already killed you.
Like if when a ranger hit the Rapid Fire the system would have already decided that all arrows has hit you, so doesn’t matter if you dodge, reflect or whatever, you get the full damage.
Also that could explain some very annoying bugs with HoT when some enemies just hit you in a middle of a dodge.
Anet could simply remove the dogs and kill you randomly as it sees fit. The result would be the same.
Again, i thought this game was about skill, not raw luck.

I’ve run through that labyrinth too many times to count and not once had anything unexplainable happen with the dogs. Also, I don’t think that’s a part of the game designed to be highly “skill-based.” There is a standalone version of the game called “Pac Man” that you can play at arcades where more thought has been put into the map. =P
I think you should check your computer with this issue. I have 2 laptops, 1 that’s 9+ years and 1 that’s about 1 year old. When I run lab on my new computer, the dogs are visible and act predictably at all times (bugs with the computer sometimes lead to me using my old computer instead though).
On my old computer (it was a high end gaming computer back in its day, so still running decently) I observe exactly what you mention here. So I suspect it is something to do with the computer graphic card (as my old computer actually works better with my internet than my new one. Less dc’s and lag spikes). I should note at this though, that my old computer doesn’t visibly lag elsewhere in game, so looking for lag doesn’t seem like it would be a good indicator.
So perhaps try to run it on another computer and see if you still have this problem. For me, the deciding factor is which computer I use. Everything else, internet and server, should be the same.
That said, the behavior of the dogs is a lot more erratic when I’m using my old computer, but presumably your computer would run better than an 9+ year laptop.

I’ve played that area extensively and have never been able to just walk around a dog like you did at 3:05. At 3:23, the dog does not leap at you and it should have. At that point, you should be dodging or, barring that, dying. Not entirely sure what the problem is (lag/graphics card), but I think it may be on your end OP. Good luck.
