This questions is asked because I do not want to get banned for doing things I didn’t knew were bannable offenses.

Is it allowed to buy mats on the Trading Post, crafting with them and then selling the crafted items for profit in bulk (around 50 per day)?

Is it allowed to trick the Troll in Ascalonian Catacombs into fighting Lt. Kohler for you?

If you can read this then it is proof that ArenaNet’s moderators just, kind and fair.

Well carefull upsetting the trolls they post here a lot

as for the crafting see post on snow flakes, but a good general rule if it seems to good to be true it probably is.

Best thing is if you think your skirting the edges of legality pm a mod and get a meanigfull response after all any other reply is just an opinion and no point when you baned saying but Cargan said it was ok

I would definitely consider selling things on the TP for profit an exploit. If you see anyone doing this, please report them.

The moderator already declared topics like this as a violation of the rules. S/He also suggested such questions should be directed at support. I wouldn’t expect a fast answer though, just imagine how many people are wondering the same thing you are and have already e-mail for their individual answer. Come to think of it…I should probably do the same so maybe I can resume play in a week or so.

Yeah.

I asked about the first one and a mod deleted my post so I would say so.

The second one, yeah its abusing game mechanics in an unintended fashion to inject more money into the system (due to the chest you get from it)

Enjoy your bans!

So making profit off crafting is an exploit now?

lol, dw you won’t hear a word from me when that happens.
Overall, if anyone ever asks me how I make gold I just say I farmed orr 24/7, better let you feel good about yourselves than me getting banned for some nonsense like profit from crafting.

Ok, I was hoping for a serious answer here, especially since I tried contcting support over a different issue this morning and had trouble getting the mail delivered.

If someone could tell me the name of a mod ingame to contact then I’d be happy to do so and leave the forums alone.

The thing is, I can totally understand why the troll thing is an exploit and I even consider it to be one…but it’s hard to find a team these days that doesn’t go for it…and I’d rather not get banned for something my team does. Though admittedly, I have also done it the past…but even if I’d stop doing it now, there’s still 4 other players in my team that do it.

Stop getting so worried about the troll, no one will ban you for it.
There’s no way to find out what you did in a dungeon, unless someone specifically reports it.

Technically there is a way, but there’s thousands of people running dungeons every day, that no one will really bother unless reported.

I saw a post way back saying that the troll exploit in fact wasn’t an exploit by a dev. An oversight, maybe, but not an exploit. I would find it again if I bothered to, but you’ll have to take this one with a grain of salt.

As for the TP thing, it all comes down to common sense. If ectos for somewhat reasons dipped below a certain amount and you could buy those, make exotics and still make a profit, of course it wouldn’t be an exploit as the market would eventually stabilize to these new changes. However, when it comes to things like the infamous Godskull sword exploit, these things should be fairly easy to see is not in fact a part of intended gameplay. It was a glitch which you could abuse to make a killing, the troll vs Kholer is part of the game mechanics, which are intended, of enemies attacking each other and therfore not a glitch that could be seen as an exploit.

Ok, so the Troll/Kohler thing is possibly an exploit? Then why are they programmed to attack each other? That makes zero sense. They could’ve just been designed only to attack player characters and their minions etc. In fact, if it is an exploit this should be addressed in the next patch. Seriously though, everyone knows about this, I am certain Anet knows about this, and so far they haven’t touched it, which tells me it’s working as intended.

About the other point: so, if I get rare mats and craft something I don’t need, say a rune I got through discovery, then I am allowed to sell it, right? But if I bought mats from the TP and then sold what I’ve crafted for profit, then that is considered an exploit? Or does the whole thing depend on quantities? If I buy mats for runes and sell 3 a week it’s okay, if I sell 50 per day it’s not?

Ban the Troll please.
Of course it is an exploit. You just came out and told how you used the games mechanic and your personal exploits. How it has made you richer for it as well. Yes it is bannable.
Off with the head.
If you are making a profit playing and not buying gems →gold then you are exploiting too no question you must report.
Now in truth using a games mechanics in an unintended way to benefit the player is an exploit. So was it intended?

ANet are not responsible for their game. If their game systems allow you to make things a bit easier on yourself that’s probably a reason for concern. Nevermind that they scripted and coded the game to make it possible for you to do that, you should be righteous and resist the temptation to minimize risk/maximize reward.

Serious reply. Just look at the people who defend ANet over anything. ANet never makes mistakes/bad decision. Ever

This is a serious question.

Actually would appreciate an Arenanet representative answer to this question, today I saw there was a discussion over at LA chat whether this is consider as an exploit by Anet. Usually, I’m not bother by it but recent events seems to have made many people re-consider whether it is safe or not to use mist as a free port to LA since this does seem like what the mist was not intended for and can be seen as exploiting the system.

Buying stuff, crafting, then selling is not an exploit in any way (in the general case). There might be some specific recipes that are bugged and can be seen as exploits. Though I don’t think that would be related to selling the end product at a profit. That would be more in the realm of the snowflake where you can get essentially keep making the same item forever with only inputting new basic materials and getting back the rare mats + more every time.
