Are you going for a legendary?
If you want one you should go for it because the reason you gave doesn’t hold water. Its a lot of work you have to put in to get one so even if you’re not the only kid on the block with a legendary you certainly are part of a very exclusive group.
I for one will never get one. The barrier to entry is far too high for me, the maxing out crafting part alone is enough to turn me off. Crafting is the most annoying necessary evil in mmos to me personally.
As for buying one…2k gold might as well be 2 million gold.
Not going for one until they have a better way obtaining the precursors.
Yeah, I’m going to go for Frostfang for my melee Necro.
I would go for one if it wasnt soulbound, the fact that i cant share it among my alts is just one more thing to add to the Anet hates alts list and the sole reason I will never jump on the legendary treadmill.
To the OP – the fact that “everyone will have one too” shouldn’t be a factor in your desire to obtain a legendary. That race was won about a month after the game was released. You should get it to make yourself happy, not to flaunt in front of other people to show how “cool” you are.
Just my opinion.
Im getting them only if they look good. I think quite a few of the legendarys actually look/sound terrible (look at you quip). Right now Im crafting one. Ive put in a custom order for a precursor and have everything else I need. Ill give it to the weekend, if no one takes up my offer Ill reconsider whether to put in a higher offer.
I’m making it a long term goal. Over 2 months I have 36 clovers and, even though I’m moving at a snails pace, I get to enjoy the game.
So far I have ~30 of each t6 materials and 250 ori ingots and 1 charged lodestone (lol)
I got the gift of battle (I wvw a lot and felt like it just came to me instead of me.trying to grab it)
And exploration. I have 200+ points for the bloodstone thing.
I think that’s all. Trying to get Bolt since I use swords a lot on my mesmer and its very electric
I’m usually typing on my phone

Nope… no desire to get a legendary. I have the Order of Whispers rifle, with the neat laser scope… I have seen what The Predator looks like, and I do not want it. I transmuted my rifle to exotic status, the stats are the same if it were legendary, so no need for me to change the skin I like.

I want the spear for my ranger, if only to compliment my shark pet. But I don’t spend enough time underwater to warrant spending that much on a legendary spear. I wanted the longbow for my ranger as well, but aside from the occasional barrage, I don’t really use my longbow either.
The only legendary I would use often would probably be sunrise on my guardian, but that’s a bit cliche don’t you think?

If you’re making a legendary to be “cool” in a video game, then you need to get outside more. I made Kudzu and Sunrise cause I like em and they will be bis with each xpac so I don’t have to worry about upgrading em. Just need to not focus on what Joe has and just worry about what your toon has. Otherwise you might as well quit the game now since there is nothing in this game that 100s of other players don’t already have.
Am I legendary yet!?
OP, if you think like that, you lost the race long before it even began. I’m attempting to get rodgort for my guardian to go along with her fiery dragon sword, and her scaly looking armor. It’s also a pretty nice long term goal for this game.
I’m glad I took the chance to look at other legendary models otherwise I would have ended up settling on working towards either a legendary staff or the greatswords (both of which aren’t really to my liking).
Makonne – Hybrid Regen Ranger
I am. But I’m not really that focused on it.
I love the game and play it for fun, hate farming with a bloody passion and pretty scattered in my activities from sussing out dynamic events to fractals or pvp in the EB jump puzzle – just whatever I feel like playing that day and what my friends are up to.
I’m better than half way there. I’m in no mad rush, it will happen when it does and I’ll be thrilled when I get it but I’m not about to ruin my fun by trying to prove something. BTDT in another game and never again
I would go for one if it wasnt soulbound, the fact that i cant share it among my alts is just one more thing to add to the Anet hates alts list and the sole reason I will never jump on the legendary treadmill.
Actually, I don’t think this is a bad thing.
- In WoW I get to share all my accomplishments with all my characters (mounts, titles, etc.), making ones “main” character seem more vague. Used to be that one would get more acquainted with ones character, but this sharing between them? It kinda takes that away, imo.

I dont so much mind exotic and down in grade stuff being soulbound, but ascended and legendary have such huge grinds involved to get that making them soulbound makes it impossible to keep alts geared up unless you play the game 12 hours a day for months and months, and even if you did play that much with DR that isnt even likely to go well for you.
but by the time I get one everyone will have one too
^ I never understood that mentality.
If others have one so what?
“others” will have one of everything in the world at any point, but the fact others have something doesn’t make it any less valuable.
An item’s value shouldn’t be based on its rarity among people but rather it’s quality itself.
I’m just going to play the game and ignore legendaries until they change the precursor system.
Ridiculous chances of a drop or in the mystic toilet just ain’t my thing. Farming CoF for days ain’t my thing either.
So I’ll just enjoy the game and if they change the way to get precursors, I’ll probably go for one.
I’d rather keep my sanity. If it wasn’t a mindless grind I would have liked to get a few of them.
I try slowly. As I gain materials over time of playing however I play. I’m about 30% still lacking the most important item(s) like the prereq and dungeon tokens and pvp tokens. Not having the prereq makes it less likely to finish any time soon so I don’t rush the other items.
If it happens it happens. All I care is that maybe I’ll see it before this game is done. :P To be honest I like my current weapon without all its “fabulous-ness” so I don’t really care too much.
Only if i happen to get a precursor. Then, i’ll start the grind process. But not before. Not worth the hassle, for me. I’m not specifically trying to get a precursor, either. It’ll happen if it happens. That’s it.

Correct, actually the first reported legendary (a Bifrost) was made on September 29th 2012. That to me screams of no-lifer searching the whole game for exploits to get stuff before everyone else does, bludging resources from guildies and a credit card that has a very high limit. But then again, back in those days the resources didn’t cost very much to start with because there weren’t very many of them about.
I’d be starting a legendary only if I had the precursor, because the rest of the hunt for the legendary is rather easy by comparison (unless you’re hunting something with hard-to-acquire lodestones). I say this from experience, because right now all I’m missing is the precursor. The most annoying part besides the precursor is the chase for the mystic clovers, and doing battle with big-Z for 77 of them. Having said that you’ll get a good deal of T6 materials for failed creations of those clovers along the way, but stuff like mystic coins and ecto costs do add up.
From what the OP was saying, it sounds like they wanted to have something special or unique in the game, ie. something that is rarely seen and they can feel good about having without feeling that it’s just another legendary. I do agree with this perspective, to a point – eventually that wow-factor wears off, and in the end you have to realise that it IS just a skin. What else you have to remember is that it takes a heap of dedication and savings to make one of these, and no matter how many of them there are in the game, yours should always feel special to you, because you made it.

The thing about legendaries is it is supposed to be a personal achievement. Not really a show off to everyone else type of thing (that just comes as a bonus or negative). I’m really close to my legendary(juggernaut), but the precursor system needs to change.

legendaries are a tier -.-
I don t want a legendary…but i will be forced to have one….
I would even trasmute appearance if i could keep the stats….
Btw i wasted so many rares in the mmystic forge that i forgot the number…
Only yesterday 40 rares 0 exotics…… at least i don t waste money directly but i craft/drop things i put in forge….
But for sure precursor RNG is quite the second worst thing in the game…..after “balance patches”.
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.
The bows are a joke. Literally. The swords are more of those stupid hunks of over-sized metal with a handle, just with some flashy effects. I haven’t been particularly impressed by any of the Legendary skins. If I were to get a legendary (and it’s a big IF), I would make my very first YouTube video – of me reskinning it to something that actually looks good.
It’s a shame, too, because games like these need long-term goals and the immense amount of work required to get them doesn’t particularly scare me off. As much as people complain about what it takes to get a Legendary, the same people would be complaining about having nothing to do if they were easier to get.
Kyxha 80 Ranger, Sokar 80 Necro
Niobe 80 Guardian, Symbaoe 45 Ele
I agree with Sokar, I am not impressed by any of the legendary skins. In fact, some are bloody annoying – the greatswords, and longbow, to name a few ..
I think there are much nicer skins to be had for various weapons through MF recipes, and much easier to obtain if that is all you are looking for.
I dont want any legendaries because all the skins are fugly as hell. The swords all look like stupid anime weapons, the bows……..dont even get me started on the bows.
Im going to stop right here and say; As said already they are * to me * a complete waste of time. If some nicer ones popped up later, I may reconsider.
Got Sunrise at the end of January, now going for Bifrost. 45 clovers and counting.
No, I prefer to try and find something fun to do.
I have no interest in grinding for months for the 1/10000 chance at a precursor.
If I do happen to find one, I’ll sell it without a 2nd thought.

No- if there was a skin I absolutely had to have, then yes.
As it stands I am much more likely to make a Mystic Forge weapon that actually suits my characters.
But I am not very goal oriented in the game so even that will take me a really long time- once I decide which one I want and for which character- looking for nice pistol skins atm- Illia and Lyss clash with the pink in my armour
I went for Sunrise, and I will probably go for the shield. I find both of them absolutely beautiful.
I am aiming to acquire a legendary through sweat blood and tears^^ though I have played since release my real life take up some ingame time, but I think in a few months I might end up with sunrise^^
Just missing Charged lodestones and 100 gold for Icy runestones and then I’m done.
Sorel→~Saga/Ranger~Shadow/Guardian~Balthazor/Warrior
The actions of getting all the items for a Legendary aren’t really something that align with my playstyle, so no. I’d be happy with a neat Exotic skin from the Mystic Forge.
Saying that, if a Precursor happened to drop into my lap I might think differently.
I plan to get at least one at some point but I haven’t started yet.
The fact that it takes a long time and a lot of (in-game) money and effort doesn’t bother me at all. I’m a taurus, we’re very stubborn and patient. It might take me a long time, longer than most other people even, but I’ll get there eventually and when I do the sense of achievement and the cool skin will make it worth while.
And when I say I’ve made no progress that’s not quite true. I’ve made a bit of progress in a few areas, like map completion for the Gift of Exploration and gather Mystic Coins from dailies, without even thinking of it as working towards my legendary.
Honestly at the moment I feel like the biggest barrier is I can’t decide which one to get. I like both Kudzu and The Dreamer for my ranger. I thought it’d work itself out when I decided whether I prefer long or short bows but at level 75 I still like both.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Honestly i am not going for one.
i understand why they went for some great and some joke designs, because, come on. its a game. lets have fun.
However i actually prefer the mystic forge recipt weapons. i am gunning for “the anomaly” as a focus for example.
However i have to admit. Bolt and the Flameseeker prohephecy look awesome. Wish i could have them for my Guardian.
Going for my 4th one. When they release the scavenger hunt I’ll go for Juggernaut/Predator ofr my alt

For my Thief main, I want a couple of weapons from the Mystic Forge. Since they each cost x250 Ectos and x250 Ori weapon pieces to make, it’s almost cheaper to buy them from the BLTC. If I can get a precursor drop, I could sell it and have just enough money to buy a set of the appearance weapons that I want.
Legendary weapons don’t have the visual appearances that I like and I don’t like how their +stats are allocated. I really can’t see myself ever going through the process of making one.

I am not going for one. Have no interest in doing some massive boring RNG Grind. Even if the Lengendaries had better stats (which to do not, they equal in power to exoctics), I still would not go for it, because of that super massively boring RNG grind. This is the same reason why I quit doing raids in WoW, they were massively boring and held no real challenge for me, the only challenge was on the raid leaders to get other people to do what they needed, but for me personally there was no challenge, so it was just boring to do any kind of raid since it was very repetitive and there was a whole lot of just standing around doing nothing.
Its not an RNG grind for all of it for the reason being that the 10 clover recipie gives an average of 20 – 50 of t 6 materials if you do not get clovers. You’ll have enough t6 mats for everything! its roll to get clover or materials, but you win both ways.
The precursor is the only RNG grind of it all.
Icy Runestones can be bought slowly in frost gorge whenever you get a gold piece.
with that said,
I am getting mine and its not that hard. I’m working on dual Incinerators. The only issue is getting 220 gold for the 200 icy Runestones and both gift recipes. Otherwise its making clovers (or failing to make) to get all 154 clovers and all 500 t6 materials. I then need to get two sparks somehow.
WvW will be tough (my laptop sucks), but I plan to map WvW on all my alts then do the JP daily on all of them.
Tips to getting a legendary:
Get a guild that will trade lodestones for ones you need or farm tier 1 bags (do it while in queensdale for your dailies), Skitt shinies bags contains quite a few slivers of different types.
laurels = easy elemental item upgrades!
10 laurels give you 10 mystic binding agents that allow you to upgrade slivers to fragments, fragments to shards, and shards to cores. These replace Elonian Wine in the forge to upgrading all manners of elemental materials.
So do your dailies and monthlies.
You only need wine for the core promotion now.
Save your Masterwork items!
There is a 20% chance to turn 4 green weapons and armor or 4 accessories into a rare when using mystic forge. This can get you ecto fairly easily. This works for karma masterwork gear as well (as long as you get a non-soul bound item in return).
Make mystic clovers using the 10 amount recipe.
10 obsidian shards + 10 ecto + 10 mystic coins + 10 crystals
You will get 10 mystic clovers or 20-50 random tier 6 basic or fine crafting materials or more of one the above four materials needed to make more clovers. The more likely result is getting T 6 fine and clovers from my testing.
This will pay for your legendary without having to buy any materials.
Dungeons!
A certain gift for your legendary is gotten for 500 dungeon tokens. That’s approximately 9 runs for a legendary (60 × 9 = 540), 18 (60 × 18= 1080) if you need 2 different dungeons (or in my case, two Incinerators). Bosses dropping 3 tokens a bag might reduce the number of times you need to run a dungeon. They recently changed how tokens are given for repeat runs and fast clears (30 min>X<1 hr). You should be able to not hit DR as fast.

While I wouldn’t mind getting a legendary I’m not into the “race to be first” thing. And as a casual player who plays for enjoyment but actually has a real life the cost of pre-cursors might as well be 1 million gold. I’m not one of those lucky players who gets amazing drops in mmo’s so I’m not considering luck being an option either. I’ve accepted that I probably won’t have a legendary before I stop playing GW2. Not sure when that will be but it would take some pretty awesome looking armor skins released in new content pretty soon. Still its been pretty awesome not to pay a monthly fee like other mmo’s.
I see no reason to go for a legendary.
Any crafting that involves an insane amount of “luck” in order to get the right piece is simply not crafting in my opinion.
I’m not saying it should be easy to get a legendary, but the current path to do so has some issues that I’m not going to bother with.
Primarily I’m not into grinding just to gamble away my gold in hopes that I get a crafting piece.
When I get something like a legendary, I want to feel like I spent the time to craft the whole thing, not like I got “lucky”. To me getting an item based on random chance is no different than just grinding gold and buying the thing outright. To me it’s pointless.
I’ll save my mats to sell for gold to purchase other things like overpriced cultural armor and such.
No, while I realize that a minority of gamers will they are just too “grind” for me. I will be making a nice MF weapon(in the next 3 months) but I won’t have the resources for two of them before I burn out while trying to make gold for the mats. ANET has said that people were progressing at a much faster rate then ‘anticipated’ , but I guess they didn’t ‘anticipate’ that just like every other mmo there are people that hit max level and do everything within a month. Those guys will and should have a legendary, but I feel like the rest of the population is being punished by the low dr of t6 mats. Unless ANET decides to add more attainable skins to the MF then I’m one and done…..possibly forever.
If you don’t get it right the first time, keep on sucking until you do!
No. I don’t think any of them are worth it.
no. no time, no resources, no cash, no drive for it…
reachable legendary tier weps / gear for a casual will come eventually, but that’s another story for another time!!
What I don’t get is that no one understands that making clovers give you T6 mats of failure and a lot of them!
So if you need T6 mats for anything make clovers! The ten clover recipe works best. if you are not going for a legendary make clovers anyways, The 10 clovers can be sold to the merchant for a decent amount of silver per each one.
In theory I am slowly working my way towards one, though I am not going to get too carried away until I how to obtain a precursor without paying 100’s of gold for it.
Most of the requirements for the Legendary will come as I play the game, I like to wander and farm and kill stuff, but I’m not going to start spending 100’s of gold or skill points or karma until I have a purpose.
I don’t think Precursors nees to be a whole lot easier to get, I just don’t want to get committed now and never end up with one.
I have my sunrise, now going for “The Bifrost”, already have my precursor
And after i will probably go for an underwater weapon and the shield
I thought about it. I started using the Mystic Forge, which I find a bit addicting, and salvaging yellows for ecto. Over about a week, I have 17 ectos, which isn’t much.
I really don’t know when or if I’ll ever get 100% world completion either — I don’t really like Orr much. I’m thinking a Legendary just doesn’t fit in with my more casual playstyle, which makes sense.
There are other pretty cool MF weapons for far less investment.
{SN} Sentimental Nightmares
Darsveth, Warrior – Dexter Oliver, Thief
I find most of them pretty ugly to be honest. The one or 2 that are decent are for different classes then my main, and just not worth the time or effort required (and no way are any of them worth paying gold for). I will stick with my HOM skin.
I can’t even bring myself to do 100% world completion. :x
nope! i sell all of the materials i come across
Notalkingplz (PvE/Spvp) – Guardian
Rough Trade (PvE)/Urok Ashpaw (Spvp) – Engineer
