Hi guys

I play this seens lauch. For my self I think anet didn’t do enough work on armor skin, well I do have some skin I like in gw2 but not much, most of skin its horrorble. Specially the new one on tp and ascended armor. I know some of u will disagree.

But just take a looks at other mmorpg game. Their armor skin looks much better.

Ok don’t compare will others, compare with gw, any of you like gw2 armor more then gw? ( any of u haven’t play gw b4 can do some research )

Y they can’t bring gw’s skin to gw2. The one they bring it’s the most horrible one. Ok if they said wont. Then bring out something better. I still miss the armor skin from gw.

Depends what MMO you’re talking about. But as for me I’m satisfied with it. Excepted the underwear-lightarmor.

And I play seens lunch too, what a coincidence.

Dear Santa,
For christmas I’d like to get a crossbow for my characters.

Yep I agree. There are some nice armors in guild wars 2. But on the whole I feel the armor and weapon skins where better in guild wars. But that’s just me.

I actually have to agree with the OP,armor skins are kinda lacking.Shoulders are Way to big for heavy armor atleast…they just are,and it just looks ridiculous.I’m even hiding my shoulders mostly just because of that. Also not a big fan of the new skins introduced lately,it seems unfitting for this game, same can be said about some other Bltc introduced gear..I think they could do a better job at it tbh.The last “Ok” armor was phalanx, Without the ridiculous huge pauldrons that is..But yeah..i can name some games that have way better looking armors than gw2 has, also from ncsoft.

Also, stop being a kitten just because the OP isn’t english…seriously, its kitten childish.

GW has style, simplicity, overall good design (and class-related armor sets), with a few recycles in the final mini expansion (gwen).
Gw2 has…none of the above (bar for recycle), but it does have a lot of excessive fluff and sparkle.

P.S. Be wary of Anet marketing strategies (read: the hype is a lie).

Personally, if I had to rank MMOs purely on how cool armor skins look, GW2 would come second (Vindictus would take first place, take that as what you will), and I’ve played MMOs for a decade, so I’ve seen them all.

I think it’s just a matter of personal taste really.

Personally for me, GW1’s design just massively lacked detail in most cases and, possibly because of the age of the techology, almost every armor skin looked either like it’s meshed into your character’s body or like as if it’s some sort of a skinsuit.

What I like about GW2’s armour is that they have a sense of solidness and weight, with a great amount of detail, and despite all the clipping, I’m glad they decided to take a gamble and put a good amount of clothing physics and armor variety into the game instead of taking the easy way out and say, like TSW, just make clothing stick to your body.

The only armor skin i like in GW was the Templar armor (not the elite one) but i agree ascended armor is one of the most ugly armor i’ve seen. But i think still overall better than skyrim. Without armor mod i really cannot play pass lv5.

People have different tastes. Some like the current armors, some don’t. Personally I dislike the Ascended armor look, but thankfully GW2 has the wonderful transmutation system, which means I can change how it looks.

I do wish they’d add more armors in game that aren’t gem-store bought, but we’ll have to wait it seems for that.

The problem is, that a lot of people don’t like that style and will start to cry then that this is not a korean MMO and they should leave us alone with that stuff.

Personally i think as a western MMO they have at least better armor designs than most of the other game out there.

I have mixed feelings about much of the armour and weapon skins in GW2. They seem to be extremes. Some are really good looking skins while others are plain ugly. But as others have said it is all a matter of personal taste.

That said I would love to see, and pay real cash for, remade skins from GW1. I would pay gems for elite & non-elite kurzick warrior and imperial assassin armours. I would also love to see Chakrams for dagger skins or something more akin to fist blade type weapons. I am a minimalist style of person, so anything sleek and minimalistic is a winner for me, even more so if it has a futuristic feel to it, like much of the Asuran skins. Oh and it has to be white .

There is one thing that really disappointed me about the new skins though. Before, you could get a full set of armour for your character (who is unable to change armour type btw) for 800 gems. Now however, it seems you will need to pay 1800 gems to get a full set. Now I am perfectly ok with having the option of buying each piece seperately, because you may not like all pieces of a full set, but why 300 gems per piece? Shouldn’t it be 100-150 gems per piece per armour type? What if I only want the skin for one character? What if I only HAVE one character? I really feel we should be given the option to only buy the skin for one armour type.

They have made them usable for all armour types so that they can slap a higher price tag on them, but this just seems very underhanded, and somewhat unfair on players who only have one character. The current lawless armour (head, shoulders, hands and feet so far) will set you back 1200 gems and is not even a full set of armour. I personally would prefer seperate payments for each armour type much more than having to pay more for a universal version. This new method of selling armour just feels like an money grabbing and unfriendly way of making a profit.

I know Anet is a business at the end of the day, but there are player friendly ways of making a profit without resorting to underhanded tactics. Giving us the choice of buying one armour type piece or a universal piece would be a good start and will gain a lot more respect from players.

Sorry for the rant, but this kind of tactic really annoys me and I feel there is no need for it. I’m just glad I find the lawless skins ugly.

Simplicity is complex.

Understandable, truly.
However, for every post such as yours there has been another asking just this. They even specified that they didn’t care paying more for single pieces if that option were there.

Unless they add both options, with adequately balanced price tags, there will always be one party that feels cheated. But then again, adding both options isn’t such an outlandish idea anyway, right?

My opinion on GW2 armor: They have a 50% success ratio with their designs. I think that is a fair number considering the number of horrible, horrible designs they’ve put out, especially on the gem store of all places!

However, even with those terrible sets, some of the pieces from said horrible sets aren’t as horrible and actually can work well when doing a mix-and-match. That doesn’t excuse disasters like the Ascended sets, though.

When I see they come out with a new set on gem store it almost always goes like this: “click heavy. ugh (especially if you play Sylvari, or pretty much anything non-human, the shoulder pads jesus comically gigantic, so bad). click light. omg ew. click medium. ehhh, gloves and shoulders look kinda cool. I guess..”

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

It’s hard to beat nostalgia.

I for one like many of the armour skins and how they are able to interact with each other. The level of detail with different materials and often even moving parts.

To be clear, we might be talking about different things, there are some nice designs – for example when I look at the screenshots above from KarlaGrey – but obviously it’s an older game, it’s not the same quality and lacks three dimensionality.

“Whose Kitten is this?” – “It’s a Charr baby.”
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”

Just thank whatever you believe in that you aren’t suffering through ESO. Compared to ESO, GW2’s armor designs are absolute perfection. It could be much, much worse. It could look like the armor designing was outsourced to a middle school HTML class doing volunteer work AKA how Zenimax does everything.

I think they could use tons more options. For example, I’m quite surprised that they don’t have more WW2 style options for engineers like gas masks and goggles there was only 1 gas mask and it was as limited as their ls patch content.

I would love to see tons more underwater masks, backpack styles based on jobs in GW/GW2, more pistol styles (seems all the good ones are Rifles which is sad and the pistols that do have a rifle match have very few energy effects even with racial skins), terrible list of medium armor coats, they took out some of the best skins I’ve seen from the WvW vendors which was a mistake imo.

They need to spend more time adding these things back in and adding even more options that aren’t restricted to 1 time LS content patches, as well as add many of them as craftable skins. I’ve seen games economies soar when skins are added to crafting professions.

Thats the easy way out I’m talking about. What they seemed to have done is basically what TSW did, have your armor/clothing as a body texture, and only use the most basic of clothing templates so that it avoids clipping issues.

People keep complaining about clipping but from what I’ve seen, it’s either have clipping or mundane designs and non-existent clothing physics, pick your poison.

Having says that, personally, I wouldn’t find clothing in ESO to be amazing even of they did it perfectly, because simply, apart from a couple of sets, I personally thought clothing design in TES as a whole to be just terrible, and they can’t exactly change that because ESO is set 1000 years before Skyrim, not after.

I like the style of armor in GW2. Heavy Ascended is my favorite. Its is utilitarin with a fantasy look. Unlike some other games I’ve seen. The higher lever armors, especially female, look ridiculous, and like it doesn’t provide any sort of protection of vital areas. (i.e. overly exposed midriff, circlets for helmets, legs totally exposed, etc.) Some of the skins are cool, others no so much (Zeinith skins anyone?) But to each their own I guess…

At least i think that the existence of Charr as playable race is one of the main reasons we don’t have more armor sets since it costs the designer maybe 3-4 times more to make it fit to them.

I always find it funny remembering how many people despised many of the GW armours at the time and that professions like elementalists in particular never got any good armour skins.

I find the GW2 ones a vast improvement on what we had in GW1. That isn’t to say some can’t be imported over mind you and more in game skins to compliment the gem store ones.

I wish we could have some more traditional, conventional ( read : not so spiky and over the top anime style) armor in this game.

I wish we could have old GW1 armor brought back ( Elite Templar and Elite Platemail, how I miss you).

I think there need to be three changes to make the armor look better:
1. Equalize plating texture across skins, so it’s easier to Mix+match. More options for dying armor would also be appreciated
2. Fix charr tail and horn clipping issues.
3. Give male armors and female charr more options to show off legs.

Do we really want to go there ? I mean, there’s quite of number of armor where Anet didn’t too much efforts to fit them nicely for Charr. Or try to fit them at all…I think even some racial sets clip with the tails…

We have quite a lot of armor sets. But personally, I have quite a lot of trouble finding more than 2 combinations that I like my characters….While in GW1 I had trouble choosing less than 3 (my necromancer switched constantly between 7 sets and it took me years to create a mesmer because I’d go broke buying pretty much every set).

Very few armors in this game really pop out to me, and this says a lot since GW1 had so many amazing armor concepts. This is odd to me since presumably the same armor artists worked between the games. Almost none of the gem store armors are remotely appealing to me aesthetically speaking (which is fine because Gem Store armor is a big no-no for me for various reasons) and even Ascended Armor is decent at best. I’m hoping that there are some real amazing stuff in the works but after almost 2 years it’s not looking promising.

Also most of the Gemstore armors have found their way into my inventory…. I didn’t play GW1, but that game’s graphics were what made it unplayable for me. I just couldn’t play it. I never saw endgame armor but the few screens I have seen of it have just been.. eh for me.

I like the armor in this game. But all of the good armor (it’s a matter of taste I know) tends to be the Light Armor or the Heavy Armor.

People make jokes about the Light “Underwear” Armor and Heavy “Bikini Plate” Armor, but I don’t mind those at all. And those are the kinds that even sell well. :P But even to that end, there is quite the variety for all armor types as well (again, except Leather Armor to me. You’ll always be dressed with some long robe or jacket it seems.)

But what bugs me the most… is that the armor styles up in the Gem Store are my least favorite. I would have no problem paying for cool styles that are different or even styles from GW1. But the styles available in the Marketplace aren’t worth buying. I’ve had no interest in any of the outfits we’ve been getting since the Feature Patch.

And that’s sad because I haven’t been able to put the new Wardrobe system to use.

The overall concepts on complete armor sets are not to my liking at all for the most part. I have to mix and match to get over to what I can deal with.
That said, it’s all subjective.

There are very few pieces that are must have favorites of mine. I think my favorite item wardrobe wise would be the Phalanx heavy boots. Best looking item to me in game so far. That one item ties so many other heavy sets up nicely. Another item like that would be the falconers medium mask or Charr T3 heavy gloves.

I think in comparison to GW1, GW1 comes out on top for me. That takes into consideration the tech and know how at the time of GW’1 launch and subsequent lifespan. It still holds up imo for a 2005 game. Sure, GW2 has a better feeling of weight per item, I just think the concepts were better back then.

Agree with the poster about Aion, probably one of the better collections of armors that I’ve seen, then again…many games from out that way have great armor collectives. Subjective of course.

Overall, there is much good armors in this game. But it seriously lacks sylvari theme armor. There was no new plant themed armors since launch. Sure, I made some mix with tier1, t2 and t3 sylvari cultural, but im running in this armor for almost 2 years and able to change only gloves/backs. And cause light armor for male sylvari isnt very inspiring, I can’t even change my mixes. Im just forced to have t1 chest, legs and shoulders, to not look like a man in a girls dress.

The main thing stopping me from asking Anet to bring back GW1 armour is the expectation that they’ll be gem store only, like Krytan is. There’s money in nostalgia. :/

Sadly, when I pick armor for my characters in GW2, I tend to feel like I’m tasked with picking the least ugly ones, instead of the best looking ones. GW2 armor is, with a very small number of exceptions, just plain ugly to me.

That also applies to picking/making a character. With roughly >90% of female faces largely resembling lolitas (it took me hours to make something non-lolitaish, and even then it was only satisfactory), I am pretty sure the designers have/had a thing for those…

At the dude trying to suggest the images I posted are bad, get real – not all screens were taken on max quality, and the few combos I posted just happened to be on my HDD. They’re simple, yet stylish while also fitting the proffessions they’re designed for (something that’s rather cruicial for pvp when it comes to recognizing incoming opponent’s class).
However if you’re into fluff and sparkle, then I guess GW2 will indeed be just your cup of tea.
