Are you offended by Shadow Knight?
…I’m sure this is a reference to something else, but I have no idea what you’re talking about. Was there another thread on this somewhere around here that I missed?

Same here. No idea wat is going on in this thread.
He’s referring to this thread that he created earlier and didn’t receive much support.
There should be a Death Knight class, obviously based on the evil Paladin class from the Dungeons and Dragons franchise dating back to 1977.
Oh wait, we’re talking about WoW right?
Sounds a bit boring. I’d rather have something I haven’t seen many times before. Paragon and dervish felt new to me in GW1, for example.
why designing a new profession when this archetype is already in the game? Give the Necromancer a greatsword and/or dual swords and that’s it.

Both of them been done before in other games. May not be very popular games like DnD but they been done. even DnD had Paragon class, which was a sub class of Paladins anyway.
Uh i’m not sure why this class seems to be so popular with the WoW types, but i don’t think a Death knight class would fit into Guildwars lore very well, and it sound like the class is built around a tank, which isn’t very popular in GW2 (Trinity and all that jar of worms).
I guess he would fit this spec..from Guildwars.

Well, yes, most ideas have been done before or had very similar ideas before. (Do you have a link for the paragon D&D class? I’m not familiar.)
Point is, ‘shadow knight’ doesn’t sound like it brings much new to the table.
Every time someone says “Shadow Knight,” I can only think of an Iksar with the Greenmist. Nothing could ever be as bad kitten as that, sorry.

I’m almost positive that the paragon you’re talking about isn’t anything like GW1’s paragon.
Ah, I see. While I wouldn’t object to a dark knight class, I’m not particularly excited by it, either, and I think there are some potentially more interesting alternatives for a heavy class. Dervish, maybe, which I’m sure people would love to see make a comeback. At any rate, I’d rather see existing classes get new abilities than see another class introduced at the moment.
As for the name, when I think of the archetype, I think “dark knight,” “black knight,” or “anti-paladin” rather than “shadow knight,” which just feels like a clumsier alternative, setting aside whatever association it has to WoW. If they wanted to invent a new name, there are so many interesting alternatives, like “Reaper,” “Executioner,” or something.
Sometimes it’s good to call a spade a spade, and sometimes it’s good to call it a shovel.
Guardians are just Paladins by a different name and slightly different play style…. If Gw2G got offended, I think they need to pull their heads from the netherworld…
I’m sorry but to me any class name used by that game is absolutely and utterly unacceptable !
the class may perform somewhat in the same way on occasion but, the goal should be to have original classes with original names NOT some copy cat that game or other games.

If it made any sense from a lore standpoint, sign me up. However, I’m just not convinced such a group of people has any place in the story. You also need to keep in mind that with how Anet made their game, you need a class that fits with ALL five races to some degree. To be honest, Necromancer kind of pushes it, but it’s pretty much grandfathered in at this point and is kind of just hand waived. “oh, that guy just resurrected my deceased grandmother and mutilated her corpse into a nightmarish floating scorpion thing, completely devoid of all skin, yet somehow with completely intact, beating organs out in the open for the world to see. Well, at least she’s contribution to the good fight!”
Nix Shadow Knight. Promote Risen Knight as the class name. They can be the heavy class for necro bros.

all this over a same name? when it functions the same?
Guardian == Paladin for example. Why get mad over a similar name when the name goes older than World of Warcraft?

this was one of the threads I was talking about btw.
others are harder to find now.
Can’t see how this would fit in GW2 at all. The whole class simply does not fit the lore.
Would much rather see something new for a change.
hey knighthonor, i remember your tag from the wiki forums where ppl were posting suggestions for the game while it was still in production, and you were pushing for shadow knight class back then too, my god man have you still not got your fix?

I think the idea is that it’s inspired by a sort of necromancer / dervish hybrid in heavy armor.
If you remember from GW1 we had the Underworld and Palawa Joko, not to mention Prophecies had a whole lot centered around the Undead. Not too hard to believe there’s a place for a necromantic warrior ingame.
I don’t have anything against the name of the class or any potential class, I have something against adding more classes to the game. I don’t care if it is a dervish, paragon, paladin, shadow knight, minstrell or birdwhisperer.
The game is balanced in classes and there is no need to add more classes to the game. Specially when there is still a lot of balancing to do within the current classes and we can use some new weapontypes.

I still don’t see it. All your examples are undead, in GW2 one of the main enemies is the undead.

We have dark, evil-like spellcasters that raise the dead.
You’re saying we can’t have dark, evil-like warriors based around the same idea because it has no previous basis?
whatever class is added in the future i just hope it has no ’’shadow’’ in it’s name.
Shadow is probably the most corny overused word in fantasy and i would not be able to play a class with that word in it xD

Definitely needs a more original and less cliche name, I agree.

I am not saying we can’t have them, I am saying what purpose would a “shadow knight” serve?
We already have necros if you really want a “dark” class, but I have seen many that are far from “dark”. It just seems like another attempt to make GW2 more like WoW, again.
Your using undead as examples. The undead have always been and still are the “enemy”, so how would that fit in the lore? If your saying the “shadow knight” is not undead, then your undead examples make no sense and it still does not fit in to the lore of the game.
paladin=guardian
shadow knight=heavy warrior with pointy balck armor and with fear me

I am not sure what you are trying to say. because it seem like you keep saying the Shadow Knight and Necromancer are the same thing since they both are dark and deal with undead.
To me, thats the same as saying Ranger and Necro are the same thing since they deal with minions and ranged attacks.
Shadow Knight has a undead theme, but can be far different by both game mechanics and skills. Necros have their shadow form as a class mechanic. Shadow Knight can have something totally different. Also different weapon skills, and different utilities and elites. Imagine skills that transform the shadow knight into different undead types like an environmental weapon. Also a class mechanic that turn down and defeated allies and enemies into undead to fight again for short period of time. thats something Necromancers dont do.

The reason why I brought up undead was because I thought you were saying that dark necromancy didn’t belong in the game.
So you’re just going to keep attacking the undead point without addressing that it’s entirely plausible for a dark knight styled class to exist. It’s like saying a certain animal / creature shouldn’t be in the game because it never was before.
Not everyone thinks of WoW. Where do you think the Devs of WoW got their ideas? Is WoW supposed to be the godly epitome of MMOs and there cannot be anything even remotely resembling it? If so we must get rid of Guardians, as they existed before WoW but are in it. Warriors too, as well as eles, thieves, etc.
Should we also turn GW2 into a modern game to make it less like WoW?
And I don’t see how a dark knight class = Necromancer. Necro is a light armor class, mainly spellcasting, based around conditions and undead. While the other is a warrior archetype, heavy armor, and is based around melee.

Heres the thing . The heavy offense and heavy defense rolls have already been filled so a 3rd heavy would either have to be a supportive roll or watered down on both sides of the line . I cant see the Death Knight filling either role

I disagree, since all the classes perform the roles, just in different ways.
Shadow Knight can have heals and good melee and magic damage. also can control the field and support allies by raising the dead/down, to continue the fight int he field. Also with Terror abilities, it can do many forms of CC, to control the field. there are many unique things it can do. especially since it doesnt have a class mechanic yet.
class mechanics alone make all the classes different, and perform different. I dont see why Shadow Knight would be the exception to the rule.
You guys are forgetting that all the current classes in GW2 are fairly unique from each other. What would be unique about a ‘Shadow Knight’?
Honestly, it sounds like someone’s fantasy of a thief, necromancer and warrior rolled into one OP class. Lame, pass.

They are unique by Class mechanic and spells.
Both of which can be unique for any new class.
Guardians and Warrior s both have supportive shouts.
Ranger and Thief both have traps.
etc, dont feel like typing all this out. But similar types of themes exist across classes, but what makes them unique is the class mechanic and skills that they use.
Shadow Knight’s unique class mechanic – all weapons and armor are wrought of shadow, rendering the Shadow Knight exempt from the horrors of ascendency.

thats an appearance. Class mechanics are featured elements of a class.
Guardian’s virtues
Ele’s elements
Eng’s Tool belt
etc
No to Shadow Knight. I’d rather see the return of one of GW’s more unique archetypes, like Dervish or Ritualist.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)

Agreed. Shadow Knight isn’t unique enough from a Necromancer, would rather see a more unique class.
They’re already in game. Just make it.
I would say one out of every three warriors I come across is a shadow/death/hell knight of some sort.
Shadowknight was a class in Everquest 2 .. in WoW it was called Death Knight i think.
So as a longtime EQ2 SK-Player .. no i have no Problems with Shadowknights
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
How about a dragonslayer knight class. I mean dragons are a big part of the threat to the game aren’t they?
A class that specializes in strictly heavy weapons like the greatsword, hammer and mace, has a lot of anti-condition shields that maybe reflect conditions back to it’s enemy or use them to increase the strength of their shields, or something to that effect?
It would be like a combination of the guardian class and the warrior class in the sense that it would have a lot of powerful offence but would also maintain a lot of personal defense. Instead of providing protection for others like the guardian does it would rely more heavily on protecting it self.
Dunno. Just throwing ideas out there. But as far as the Shadow Knight idea goes I could really care less. I’m not a heavy class kind of person usually.
Champion: Phantom, Hunter, Legionnaire, Genius
WvW rank: Diamond Colonel | Maguuma
I could name it xxarthasdkxx just to annoy people.

This is one of the better ideas for a third heavy armor class that I’ve seen.
delicate, brick-like subtlety.
I’m not opposed to a dark warrior class, but just saying ‘Shadow Knight’ with no other identifier sounds horrible no matter what game it is or is not inspired by. There was a guy who had a fair take on the idea as a ‘witch-hunter’, and I’ve seen others that have been good as well that have received a lot of positive feedback and attention.
But yeah, pretty much anybody who just described an anti-guardian or anti-paladin, X exists for no other reason to be the antithesis of Y, hasn’t been meet well, because it’s a horrible and incomplete idea. If you want a dark knight class, give the class it’s own flavor, purposes, and identiy. Nobody wants to play anything that is identified in no other way than simply NOT being something else.
I am not sure what you are trying to say. because it seem like you keep saying the Shadow Knight and Necromancer are the same thing since they both are dark and deal with undead.
I keep saying? I mentioned it ONCE.
You asked for our opinions, but it seems if our opinions don’t agree with your agenda then we all must be wrong.
If you did now want our opinions, then why did you even bother to ask?
Is this better?
“In my opinion”, shadow knights have no place in GW2 as they are a very poorly thought out idea and the examples shown have nothing to offer to the game.
