Are you part of the 99%?
Yeah I’m broke, but I am totally okay with it.
What will you do if you were given unlimited gold right now? Not only will you skip out on the experience and sense of achievement, but you will instantly get everything you’ve always wanted and then rush to the forum to create a “NOW WHAT?!” thread.
Sit back, relax, and enjoy the journey.
Nope I only have a few gold, and that’s perfectly fine. I have tens of thousands of pounds in my real life bank
I have about 9g and absolutely no clue on what I should it spend, I got the gear I want, I got the dyes I want (I’m using the basic ones) so there is really no reason to be upset because 10% players have 100g. There is nothing to spend it on.
I’d say I’m firmly in the “middle class” in terms of gold, I could afford abyss and black dye, but I’d be reeling if I bought them. I collect craft mats I’ll need for later, vendor blues and greens, sell yellows and exotics on TP, and mostly try my hardest to not die(as a Guardian I’m quite good at this) to keep down on repair costs. I don’t have a solid source of income outside of basic things most people do (I tried buying and selling copper and jute on TP but I think I might be trying to buy at too low prices?). The thing is that without both luck and some serious commitment to farming/grinding, it’s not easy to reliably make ton’s o dough. The newly imposed dungeon exp/cash limit only serves to exacerbate that. You could craft to make money at lv400, but only if you farm the materials, since you typically craft at a loss if you buy what you need.
I’m not close to affording the ‘of rage’ legendary components on the trading post, but I have more than enough money to keep myself going and buy all the stuff I want. It isn’t hard to earn a gold every few hours if you dedicate yourself a bit.
I would suggest stop using waypoints, sell all blues/greens to merchants, sell all gold/orange on TP, maybe try to find a crafting niche and cash in on it, and if all of that fails, go complete a map and you’ll earn 1g from hearts/loot/rewards.
I certainly wouldn’t say that 99% of players are broke and that most of the gold is in 1%. I’d say probably closer to 40% players are broke, 50% players stable, 10% mega rich.
Two lvl 40s with 1gold book bought on both and i got 4gold.
Lvl200~ cooking
No secondary of worth mentioning
Vendor evverything xpet specific salvage items.
All that gear worth 30-60 copper adds up really fast.
I wouldn’t say rich but I’m around 26g I did obtain it by clearing dungeons at a very fast pace, but not by exploiting and not CoF, believe it or not there is other instances out there and some where the bosses are fairly straightforward to a moderately experienced group.
Oh and grenade kit engineers as I learned yesterday DECIMATE in dungeons, had 2 in my group and they plowed through packs so fast we were completing the run in 11 mins.
I’m middle income I suppose. I don’t make several golds an hour, but am not broke all the time either. I’m currently saving up for tier 3 cultural shoulders, at 7g atm, and will probably take me till the weekend or so to get through regular gameplay. I don’t farm or speedrun dungeons. Just doing DE’s, hearts, exploration etc.
I’m kind of broke, but I’ve made some… investments.
Might have a nice bit of money soon. Or not. We’ll see.
Well my main character is level 45 and has about 2 gold. I have no idea if that’s good or not. I don’t feel broke though.
My highest alt is 33 and has a little under 2 gold.
Im pushin about 90g and have about a 400 orch. so im middle income

I consider myself (one character lvl 70) to be in the middle. I never lack money for mundane things like waypoints, and I’ve even been able to buy myself two minipet packs with gold I converted into gems (because I could). So I’m not complaining.
WP travel is the killer. It will eat through your money like nobody’s business.
I have few golds and not in hurry to get more. That’s a game =)
how da hell i was able to play gw 3000+ hours and now, in gw2 , in less than 150 hrs im bored and have no interest for da game that i expected so hard? good thing others mmo will be alive soon
Got 19 gold so far, you tell me.
Haven’t gone out of my way to make money, now that I’m level 80, I’m working on map completion.
I have just over 2g
But I do have upgraded bank and inventory.
Money, as a number on a screen is useless, its the purchased item that counts.
Nobody ever beat me at pvp because they had 100g more than me
I fluxate wildly between 30s and 3g, but never more than that. The thought of a cost of full armor is depressing.

and you have to come to the conclusion that youll never be the best
at least you have a life, and different activities!
I have 20g. Considering some stuff on the TP is bought for 80g, I think I’m not poor nor rich.
LOL really… Are you saying that the 1% are all exploiters? Funny, that doesn’t sound much different than liberals in politics.
I’ve found that prices, both in terms of training book costs and the occasional thing I buy from the TP, are amazingly well balanced to the money that I took in while leveling up. I found that I just… just always had the money that I needed at the right time, without a ton to spare. That’s a pretty remarkable thing, as usually in MMOs it’s pretty lopsided in one direction or the other (usually too rich or too poor).
This is while leveling up my tradeskills along the way and by keeping my gear up to date as much as possible. I used to make the mistake when I first started playing of salvaging my blue drops, but when I started vendoring them, most of my money problems went away.
All of this combined with the economy of the Trading Post being a bit out of wack (in my opinion), I’d say the money balance is pretty ok. That said, there are definitely people who have found ways to profit hugely in the young economy (some people are just good at this, both in games and real life).
I don’t have tons of gold on my characters, but I’m able to buy what I want from the TP without any problem. I don’t really care about making tons of money in the game. That’s not how I play, that’s not what I find enjoyable. If people want to spend their time playing the market, more power to them. To me, that just sounds like another job and that’s not what I want from my recreational time. tyvm.

I don’t find myself in a position where I can’t buy something i want… But with the cost of the legendary weapons coming up… that may not be the case anymore.

As long as crafting matts stay relatively low I have no issues with one small portion having tons of gold, I don’t really buy much of anything anyway…

I see legendaries as a long term goal. Maybe REALLY long term, but honestly, they are not an absolute requirement for me. I’m certainly not going to stew over it.

I missed out on the 3 big money makers….
1. The discovery of Mystic Coins use (coins went from 20c to 5s in 1 night)
2. Cooking changes (vanilla beans went from practically free to 70c each)
3. CoF speed runs
The 3rd one was the slowest income but also the most wide spread. People made 100+ Gold in 5 minutes with the first 2 changes. I managed to miss out on both of them.
I am currently sitting at 9 gold in the bank, and a decent amount of mats. But none of the rarer mats. I play pretty casually though so I am fine with it, though I am hoping to make more.
I can’t even get the 2 gold necessary to get my final trait book and I’m lv 63 as people messed up the TP with a certain exploit making things unable to be sold or people selling stuff at such a low value (1c + merchant value) that you can’t make money in the TP anymore. Also as a jeweler, I’m able to make rare silver and gold jewelry and sell it at a profit (mostly), but I spend more than it costs to make it atm.
So I’m hovering around 50s – 1g most of the time and keep having to use it to do everyday things required of me in GW 2 (Waypoint/Repairs which both cost 1s+ each travel/piece respectively) along with crafting. Since I’m aiming to 100% complete things, I am still in the 25/30/35-40 maps. These don’t offer enough money to be able to get by let alone break even and I need to be very careful not to damage or break armor. I’ll probably be lv 80 before I reach my first lv 60 area and just as broke.
I could do dungeons but I don’t have time to deal with inexperienced pugs, I can either complete maps or dungeons not both. My guild and this community is honestly, all for themselves so I’m alone most of the time, so dungeons are out of the question unless I can get 4 of my own guild ally to help. Lv 63 and still haven’t 100% completed Ascalonian Catacombs.
I’m beginning to think its a money grind not an exp grind.
I look at some of the mmo’s I’ve played, and what I’ve always seen is, at first, gold is darned hard to come by. With any game. You start out scraping for enough to buy even the lowest level upgrades and the like, then by the time the next expansion comes out, you have more than enough. Maybe not all you want, but more than enough none-the-less.
I’ve always felt that the first gold piece SHOULD be a milestone. It makes you feel like you’ve accomplished something. We all know how these things go… give it 6-8 months and everyone will have more than they know what to do with.
I can’t speak for everyone and wouldn’t dream of trying, but in my humble opinion, enjoy the early stages of life in GW2 while it lasts because far too soon things will be much different. MMO worlds change/economies change…its the way of a living game.
I’ve had little issue making gold for what I need thus far. You need to actually work at it though. Most recently was Mystic Forge Conduits, made a small fortune on those just hanging on to them for a while until the price quadrupled. Pirate runes were also a good golden goose for a while, not so much now as demand has stifled while doubloons remain high. Right now it’s Ectos, get yourself a mystic salvage kit, run some events, salvage the rares.
There is money to be made if you actually go out and do it.
I’ve got about 8 gold. Not rich, but not poor either. I’m saving it for things like waypoint travel and repair costs.
I’m always broke. Altaholic with 5 toons and 3 craft skills going. Prob don’t have a gold between all of them. Break everything down to feed the crafting maw.
But…so what? I could, I suppose, buy gems and convert them to gold like some. But why? I’ll max out crafting, level all my toons , create and delete new toons eventually. And somewhere along the way, maybe I’ll make a little coin…or not.
Its not a race.
