Mesmer is unfun to play against and does everything better than thieves.
Hoping those two get gutted with nerfs
I was in an empty map and it asked me to go to a more popular version of that map and it made me relog. I thought this game was just one big server besides for guild wars. Why’d it do that
One server, many maps. The game creates as many copies of a map as necessary to accommodate as many players that want to play on that map.
If there was only one map, your client would crash because of overload.
The game makes shards of the maps as needed for the number of people who are playing in it. If enough people who are in a shard leave and it drops below the population minimum to keep it going, the game will try to close it down. It will first ask people to switch. If people don’t leave it gives them some more time then it will close and force them to switch to another shard.
oh ok never heard of this before
You were forced to relog because a patch was put out for the game. Normally when you volunteer to leave an underpopulated map, you aren’t forced to logout.
sometimes it just feel funny, when you had just entered the map, but not long after that you are asked if you want to move to a more populated map. i thought for megaserver you’ll be placed in a more populated map first, but it seems that the game place you in the least populated map and only then ask the player to move to the more populated one. happened few times, and when i check the world boss timer the was no event for that going on during that time.
World bosses are one reason a lot of people might go to a map, but there’s other things that could potentially cause sudden influxes and departures, such as guild missions.
You might wind up on a map with sixty players, but fifty of them are from the same guild and came to the zone to do a Guild Rush. Once their Guild Rush ends, those sixty players are going to pack up and leave, and suddenly the zone with a middling population that you entered only recently is down to ten players and you get the prompt to go to another instance.
It’s quite possible there are long term shards that stay open and short term shards that open and close to handle overflow from the long term shard.
