I agree, this game is a click-fest. Somebody made a post on reddit on how there’s 7-8 average clicks per bag (if you include salvaging, selling, depositing etc).

Personally though, it doesn’t really interrupt my gameplay. I open bags as I get them, whilst running from place to place. It means I don’t really notice the time it takes. I definitely feel the strain if I save up bags to open them though, which I find tedious and frustrating.

Yeah this game endlessly throws heaps of crap at you but this has been discussed to death and Inventory Wars 2 is to be expected when they ask for RL money for more storage space, either via bank or mule slots.

Anyway…

Unless your using a mouse from 1981 it’s pretty easy to set up “left click” to mouse scroll. I just scroll up on stacks, job done. If your mouse won’t allow it maybe it’s time for an upgrade, a decent gaming mouse with profile options and key binding are cheap as chips and it’s effectively the same thing.

Yeah an “open all” option would rock but I would assume after all the requests for this it will never happen, whatever Anets reasoning is.

No I’m not tired of looting bags.

However I am tired of looting:

  • Bags
  • Bags within bags.
  • Stacks of bags.
  • 15 types of bags from killing 2 enemies.
  • Bags of bags inside bags containing chests.
  • Chests containing bags.
  • Bags containing chests.
  • Bags of money.
  • Bags of karma (that’s what they are -.-).
  • Bags of magic find items.
  • Bags of anything else which could have been added to my account immediately instead!

Really, looting bags is fine. In any MMO bug GW2, the devs understood that. Only in GW2 do we get flooded with so many absurdities in the form of bags that we start hating them.

Just… stop it, devs. Give me the contents directly.

Yeah a really bad system imho. I rather loot items from the thing I kill. That also feels like it makes more sense.

Was talking about this with a guild-member some time ago and he said that he ones did see or read an interview where Anet even talked about this. Apparently ArenaNet hired some shrink type of guy (I don’t know what’s that profession is named) and he came up with this bag approach because people would then feel more rewarded or something. Some psychological effect.

I have not seen that interview or article myself, so don’t know how true it is.

I can only say it does not work like this for me. (So I am different here, or he is not very good at being whatever he is) It’s just annoying to open all those bags that are filled with junk and sometimes have something nice. There is no living towards that moment the cool item can drop, you are just clicking and if you are lucky the item you wants is suddenly in your bag between all other crap. I even find chest at bosses kind of stupid. Why does there suddenly pop up some chest?

I killed that boss, I want to loot HIS body for a chance to get the sword he used in the fight (or some other rare item related to him). That sort of rare drops give me a rush, not opening 500 bags. That gives me carpal syndrome.

But with 100 bags that are mainly filled with junk this does not work. A boss that can have a rare drop does have this effect of “Will it drop”, but opening 100 bags does not.

But that’s because you are expecting the crap that usually comes from bags. I played some other MMO’s where there where less bags and I had less trouble placing everything in my inventory and it still did feel more rewarding.

Usually in those games there are less items (different types) that drop from one group of enemies. It’s more specific.

You want candy-corn, kill walking candy-corn that you find in another place as where you find bats. And you want those teeth things then you kill bats. You want skulls? Then you kill zombies.

So there you want x, so you go for x and because of that there is also not really this problem of things piling up. In GW2 however it’s done so that all those items drop from all those mobs, just in a lower quantity, or with a lower value per item.

The problem you are afraid of, is related to the way it’s implemented. But when implemented differently you would not have to have this problem. Even better, if you want something specific you can focus on getting that instead of focusing on getting as many bags as possible, hoping the things you want are in there.

I don’t mind the bags really, though being able to bind double click to my mousewheel would be great. Anet added a wonderful quality of life improvement with the “no longer let ground targeting go out of range” option, so I have hope.

It only got worse with HoT, where we can get something along the lines of ten or more different “loot” containers in one zone.

It all gives me this feeling of “look at all this stuff we are giving you”, which might work if any of it was remotely exciting. You get so much of it from event/zone participation rewards. You need to click on those twice, once to see what you got and again just to put it into your inventory instead of it going there directly. Then you have to open all the containers you get and process the contents if its not a currency that should have been added directly to your wallet in the first place.

Its turns my rewards for playing content into a chore.

I’d kill for at least options to automatically put crafting materials in storage and maybe some for salvage kits along the lines “Salvage all blues” and “Salvage all greens”.

I don’t mind the bags because they save on inventory space. If they just put items into your inventory directly we’d be complaining instead about how increased bagspace is stuck behind a gemwall. And I’m still thankful for the “Deposit collectibles” button every day.
That being said, they can still condense the different types of bags (especially in HoT) into just 1 or 2. Having four stacks of 2-3 different types of bags doesn’t do much to help the space issue. I also dislike that we get rare- or exotic- colored bags that have greens and blues in them. What’s rare or exotic about that?

I definitely agree we get a ton of loot with lots of bags to open, however spending time every night at the end of a session of playing to clear out all of the loot you got is pretty standard procedure for any RPG. Single player or MMO.

You play a bunch, then you clear out all of the loot you collected. I don’t care how much loot people are getting, it shouldn’t take more than 5min to clean it out.

Open every bag/chest. Salvage every item you can. Deposit collectibles. Consume all luck. Sell junk and runes/sigils to vendor. Bank anything else like BLCs or ascended mats you can’t fit in your collections tab. We’re literally talking minutes here. Definitely under 10. And I have max bag space!

As to the Bag-in-Bag-in-Bag issue…

I think most of us would find them far more bearable if Magic Find worked on them.

Us oldest vets know that the bags were implemented to skirt Magic Find and to screw us over in such a way that ANet could say with a ***cough*** “clear conscience” ***cough*** that players were getting high rarity drops.

After all, 95% of all the bags I get are exotic rarity.

They just give me BLUES 98% of the time!

Having lots of bags is actually brilliant for a couple of reasons.

1. It saves inventory space during play time. Instead of your inventory getting completely clogged if all the items in bags were just given to you, it puts then all into one unified, stackable item space.

2. It allows mobs to have a ton of drop variety without making their loot tables ridiculous.

Having lots of bags is a great thing. So what if you have to clear your inventory? It would be way worse if you didn’t have bags.

If they were trying to increase Bank and Bag Slot sales, they’d ditch the STACKABLE bags that tend to save inventory space and just give us direct loot drops.

The problem there is that Magic Find works on direct drop loot. Magic Find does not work on bags except for Silverwastes Bags.

They don’t want us to have nice things. Magic find can get to almost 1000% if your Account MF starts at 300% and you use the right utility (30%), food (30%), the MF booster (50%) , and the Birthday/Celebration Booster (100%).

Judging by my calculations, you can pull off 1521% Magic Find.

Lol,
1 Is only a problem if mobs drop a lot of different things.. the point you praise at 2.
2 Is bad because it makes it harder to go directly for the stuff you want but are forced into a generic grind where you just get stuff, you then sell so you can then get the items you really want. What basically is the grind so many complain about.

Played other MMO’s with way les bags and had less bag-space problem but that’s because they went for the approach where items are more specifically locked behind a group of mobs and zones and so on.

Bags in bags? Just use the same strategy for your inventory! Have your last bag slot be your “swap space” and your next to last bag slot hold multiple bags. When a bag fills, swap it with an empty one. Sure it’s inconvenient but now you can have 400 slots for BAGZ!

You can even nest this process so you can have infinite slotz for infinite BAGZ! w00t!

All joking aside, it is kind of annoying when you spend 20 minutes doing something and then have to spend 30 minutes cleaning out your inventory. A configurable auto-open/auto-salvage/auto-sell set of options would be pretty useful.

Am I tired of looting bags? No, not really. I actually like the space saving that loots bags over specific gear offers. One of my biggest issues in GW1 was that I couldn’t carry everything I looted during my many (long) farming runs. I had to pick and choose, or stop and merch often (if it was an option, which it initially wasn’t).

Do I wish magic find affected bags? Yes, even if it did so at ‘reduced effectiveness’ vs straight drop changes, it would tickle me pink.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Exactly.

People are replying to this by saying “no it would be better without bags and chests… if there was less garbage loot”…uh….no kitten sherlock but it’s not like that is it. Fact is we are thrown bucket loads of garbage as of now, not in the dreamy sparkles and candy land where loot and drop rates are actually decent, hence bags are great for the current mechanic.

Just play away, empty the tardis and merch enmasse before logging off.

To reiterate it’s better that than having a full inventory every 2 minutes and using hypotheticals to justify losing the bag mechanic is redundant. We are talking here and now, with crap loads of crap loot.
