Wanted to start up a discussion with the question:

Does Arenanet favor the casual PvE player over the World vs World player? And if yes, how will that effect the game in the long run.

Think about income for arenanet and the build up of WvW server communities.

Neither at the moment, if you think about it.

WvW rewards and features constantly seem to be on the back-burner, alienating this community.

On the other hand the casual player is one who might just get involved in any aspect of the game. However, the way Ascended weapons were introduced, it creates a barrier of advantage against these players entering and enjoy WvW.

Or even more experienced players I know have take a look at the weapon crafting requirements and gone “I regularly use 10-15 weapons across my toons and builds, crafting is incredibly boring, not this just isn’t worth it. Guess I’m done roaming in WvW.”

I guess you could argue that is favoritism of PvE (albeit the dedicated ones, not the casual) over WvW. Ascended weapons are neat, and look great, but they should have just kept the stat progression horizontal, since it is becoming more and more difficult to jump into WvW underleveled or undergeared and do anything but surf the zerg.

I’m not claiming it is impossible to do well without Ascended gear etcetera, player skill remains the biggest factor. But when trying to bring newer or casual players into an area like WvW, greeting them with a bunch of vets who also get a gear advantage is just a bad plan.
