Arenanet, your customers who are addicted
Look for addiction help in your area.
I wonder if they will implement a reminder to let players know that excessive amounts of time spent in game are unhealthy.

Or an option where you can set how many hours you can play each day and able to lock it in for a month or so before you can change it.

Why not indeed, I sometimes play for hours without noticing Breaks are needed.
Pointing at you Arenanet, do you have any advice to your customers/players who are addicted to your game, but its got to a point where its to much?
That is THE PLAYERS problem not A.Net. I would suggest uninstalling and moving on.
Arenanet had in GW1 a message that would pop up that said something to the affect of: you have been playing for so many hours, please take a break. I thought it was cute. Didn’t work of course :-)
ArenaNet already has mechanics to prevention addition from playing the game too long. That’s the whole purpose of diminishing returns.
If you still have troubles with playing video games, then you need to seek help from your internist to see if they can get you set up with addiction programs.
Just be warned that video game addiction is not considered a medical condition and will not be covered by insurance so the consulting will be very expensive.

Yeah. I liked that in Guild Wars.
It may not have worked for you but it did for others, myself included (sometimes).
probably there are programs that will limit the amount of time you are on or block certain websites ect
change your password to something totally random that you will not remember, write it down then mail it to youself snail mail..of course you could just reset the password
when i get to that point its time to just quit… its amazing how quickly i fill my time with other activities and forget all about that game… what was it called again? whatsitsface?
just quit
I find it amazing that anyone expects the ONE entity that has no financial reason to WANT you to log off to remind you to log off.
I guess a dealer might cut off a customer about to OD (just so they can survive to buy more drugs later).
If you seriously feel the word “addiction” in any way describes your GW2 experience, perhaps you should just take a break for month or so. The game IS designed to allow for that to be possible with no financial commitment or loss.
Fate is just the weight of circumstances
That’s the way that lady luck dances
A while back, before Final Fantasy 14 (the first version) it was announced that the initial iteration of Guild Leves would work on a trickle system much harsher than it is today. It was a form of effort to prevent people from playing the game too much. Needless to say, people were outraged by the prospect. Do you REALLY want ArenaNet to baby its players like that?
edit: perhaps my memory was a bit off. It looks like it was just a harsh leveling cap.

If you’re really addicted you’ll just find ways around it.
You could always download an alarm and set if for a certain period of time to let you know when you need to move on. There is an app name overwolf which you can download a internal alarm which will go off as you play in game.
With nearly 7,000 hours ranked up now, I have to admit I am addicted to Guild Wars 2. However, combating addiction is the responsibility of the user in most part, and a bit of self control is what is needed. In which, I don’t have any :p
There is an in-game clock in the map, which I guess is there to be like the old “You have played this game for 3 hours. Please take a break” but less effective, but also less intrusive. At the end of the day it’s down to us players to kerb our playing, not ArenaNet.
I guess it depends on the level of addiction. If it’s just a reminder that you played too long, well that can be done by means outside of the game or if it’s a matter of willpower then uninstalling works too.
The real issues comes when the addiction is so bad an ‘intervention’ is needed in that the account really needs to be banned or locked. I would suspect Anet would be in trouble if a person asked them to remove their access because it was affecting their health and Anet then didn’t and the person really did suffer health issues because of it.
In the end though, as with all addictions there are support organisations set up to help because if someone is determined to get back in they will find a way and imho getting help and support from outside the game from experts is the only and best way to proceed.
If you are concerned about your addiction that is a good sign. However, just speaking generally about the issue of addiction, might help others who are in such a situation be able to find help. But rest assured there IS help out there if it’s become too much of a problem and health, relationships, and work are being effected.

It’s the chain I beat you with until you
recognize my command!”
Why on earth would they want you to log off? The more time you spend playing the more money they can make from you.
I thought that is what diminishing rewards are for
You have been on for 37 days it’s time to take a break.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
Yeah! And then Colin Johanson can come tuck you in and give you a big glass of milk.
Or…
One could act like an adult and monitor their own behavior.

This link is amazing. It’s the most useful and supportive resource I’ve found in dealing with MMO addiction, although I don’t think it’s actively updated anymore. Interestingly enough, GW2’s game design is probably the best MMO ever conceived, in terms of how easy it is to walk away from.
