Argh! I HATE the server "system"
Right click your party members portrait and click “Join in X” and it will move you their map.
I do. That does not always work unless you spam join and get lucky.
If you are not partied up it does not help though. Which is a problem because sometimes something was about to happen you wanted to be there for it and you come back to a map where it is not about to happen.
Then dont leave untill the event is finished, mega servers were introduced so they could merge people on fewer instances of maps if needed
I sorta have the same problem : the mega-serverproblem for europe players was not fixed so far.
Me, as RPer, on a none-RP-server can never reach drakkarlakes overflow on my own.
I fetch up somewhere in french or english overflows, reading their english/french emotes, tho I represent a rp-mass-guild, have my friends in friendlist and grouped up with em. But still I need a taxi all the time – I always have to ask somebody from my friendlist, interrupting his rp, leave his rp-group so i can join the map. drakkar-rpler never have this problem, they are always on the right map.
I can’t meet people randomly IC, I must intend meeting them.I walk with a full partysquad through a gate to the next city – all at the same moment – but it is just me getting on another overflow map and all must wait for me, everytime.
Why is this so hard to put same-language-servers all in one? why is there such a weighty servercut, when servers are only important for wvwvw?
Why is the group up and guild-importance not working as anet praised long ago?
Not leaving is not always a realistic option (and that is assuming you are in a party in the first place, I am usually not in one). For example, yesterday I had plenty of time before an event but needed to go get something. When I got back I had to repeatedly try to join the map with my party (not fun for me and not great for their network). Pretty bad for the other 4 since we needed 5 people. It seems the luck of the draw too, the other day I had a party member pop off the map to go do something and had no trouble getting back.

Honestly I consider gw2’s server system to be one of its best features. In many mmos, ff14 for example, you join a server when you start the game, and you never leave that server. If it’s full, you just can’t play. If you meet someone in real life and want to play with them, you can’t unless they just happen to be on the same server.
Seriously, there is definitely room for improvement, but gw2 has some of the best server architecture in the world.
I would rather have it that way. If they are regularly full there should be more servers added somewhere.
Putting me on a random map makes it be a “what is the point” when the game asked me what server I wanted to be on. I picked that server so I could play with friends … who may or may not be on the same actual server as me, even though the game inists I am.
I need to pick server B because A is full? Okay. Put me on server C when I had requested server A? Not okay.
Their overall network works great. It is this “maybe you are here but maybe you are not” thing that just vexes though.
