Hi there.

Im playing Engineer, and i saw all Medium Armors in the game.
Where are the Steampunk look for engineers?
Im tired to try combinations to make my Engineer look like Engineer, but every Medium armor of this game, look for Thief or Ranger.

I think the Engineer have only 3 armors to chose between

Please ANet, can you make any armor exclusive for Engineers?
On this game, we are looking for Appearance armors right? Where is our Engineer’s Appearance?

Medium armors are ugly for Thieves too. It’s just longcoats… I really hope they add more variety.

I like the Longcoats personally. But some of the crafted stuff is pretty cool as well as karma armor…though its a style of longcoat also.

Nononono, not at all. It’s all these impractical longcoats and big hats or masks that cover only half the face. Thieves need pants and a tight mask.

Medium armor is hideous and requires an update. Especially for females. I have to transmute everything to avoid puking and uninstalling the game.

Please update.

FYI no self respecting thief or ranger wears huge flappy trenchcoats either.

All we’d do is alert everyone to our presence – which isn’t good for a sneaky thief or a ranger in the wilds.

Depends on what you want your thief (or ranger, or engineer) to look like. The problem is just a lack of variety in medium armor. It’s all too similar in style.

It is not that we don’t want better armor but when we will get those. it has already been talked many times already that medium armor looks atrocious and kills any uniqueness for classes like engineers when it is also shared by theif and rangers.

Between two evils, I always pick the one I never tried before.

I was able to craft my engineer an “engineer-y” looking set at 50. Yeah, the leather sets are lacking in variety but not completely. I am also working on piecing together ANOTHER engineer/steampunk-ish set now. The great thing about the way the armor system is and the way they implemented custom colorization is that you can mix and match pieces for a unique look. The downside to that at the moment is, like it’s been pointed out, there isn’t a robust selection to choose from and generally medium armor wearers look the same.

Idk, I’m kinda torn. I like some of the pieces, but I wish some of them were more…feminine. I wish some of them were not as similar to other pieces too. It’s frustrating to see pieces @ level 80 that have the exact same look as pieces I had 30 or 40 levels ago. Anyway, here is my Sylvari thief armor atm. I thought they all looked good (and still do). The second image is my current look.

3 classes share medium armor, yet are all radically different in what they do from a fundamental standpoint; the other light and heavy armor wearers are just flavors of casters and heavy melee. Thieves probably want tightly fitted clothing, engineers need their pockets for gadgets and gizmos, rangers need to look more Aragon-ish… or whatever.

It’s a skin game with a lack of style… at least in this armor type. If I could xmute cross armor classes, then maybe I wouldn’t care so much cause I could really blend styles. The Dead Space was a joke because it’s one of the few games that makes an otherwise nerdy profession look like a totally mean mama jama.

Each racial armor has 3 different sets.
There are 7 different crafted armor sets.
There are 8 different dungeon armor sets.
There is 1 karma armor set.

That is 19 different sets of amror you have available to you.
Most of the armor sets mix and match quite nicely too.

Just an FYI, there is a lot more than just one Karma set. Pretty much every level area has a different Karma set. And don’t forget rare sets that drop as well, exotics that have unique sets, sets that you get from your Personal Story, and then of course the different types for each armor type (light, medium, and heavy).

there’s a lot more armor than you’re counting. there are actually more than 30 sets to choose from.

here are some i think are good for engineers (remembering that mix and match makes for the best sets)

the problem is you already have an idea of what you want your character to look like in your head. and the game fails to deliver that which the options currently in game. Just like thieves want ninja outfits. And there isn’t enough robes for cloth wearers etc etc.

Considering that GW2’s world is distinctively not steampunk, I’d be surprised to see steampunk elements in it. Even the Charr, who probably come close to a steampunk aesthetic are much more heavy industry themed. Not all industrial revolution fantasy settings have to be steampunk settings and I am actually very happy to see a different twist on objects that are typically used in steampunk settings.

In other words, you seem to be looking for something that is not part of the GW2 world as it seems to be intended form a visual side.

You illustrate the issue well, here. Those aren’t bad looking, but they are all very similar. How about anything that isn’t like a duster or trenchcoat? The only ones I know of are newbie armors that look like newbie armor, instead.

i personally feel that the coat suits the engie far more than it does the ranger or the thief, that’s why i picked them.

that said, i agree that there’s a lack of non-trenchcoat options.

Ok, the Charr race is the race of Engineers and they have something closer to Steampunk. But only the city? Where’s the Engineers armor then?

Medium armors do seem limited to either long coats or some odd looking tops. You would think in a game like this there would at least be tons of armor looks for each that were very unique, even if they are hard to get. There just doesn’t seem to be much variation at all.

I’m sure that the goggles attached to his top hat are very practical and serve a definite function. I also hear that bronze is the ideal metal to build all structures and firearms out of.

Also, is it some sacred rule that all steampunkers have to use that same kitten Nerf gun in their costumes? I feel like this point Nerf would make a killing if they just sold it with a distressed bronze finish instead of the orange plastic.

so you want to dress up like Link.

can’t say i’d mind it, but first we’d need the option to use shields as either rangers or thieves.

I agree that the medium armour choices are pretty rotten, at least on a female norn.
I’m still wearing styles I got in level 1-40, despite having a sweet collection of dungeon tokens, just because all the endgame armours look so trashy.

The AC armour, just for example, looks like you’re a henchman in some evil overlord’s army. A henchman. It’s just basic studded leather.

Also I’m glad the game has that saucy hat with a feather because that’s the only half-decent headpiece I’ve seen for medium armour. Here’s hoping that the Lost Shores patch mostly consists of new medium armour hats. That’s likely, right?
