actually this is a comparison between what the original design team was able to accomplish (50+ armor sets) and what the present design team is able to accomplish (2 armor sets).

what’s happened? it’s an honest question. how did we get to this point? is the engine too old to update armor sets? can the artists no longer design armor?

If they are only putting armor ingame and if the sets are going to be a reward for doing content, then the number put out for this expansion will have to match the number of content rewards “quests” that can reasonably fit the size of the content. Silverwastes had one set of 3 armors. This is 4 maps so 2 sets of 3 armors isn’t too unreasonably low. It’s also possible (probable, imo) that more will be coming later.

Telling people what will MAYBE be coming later after 10 months of no content is kind of insulting. Also 2 sets of armor in an expansion is not at all reasonable and expecting more is not unreasonable.

Please stop asking them to put armor sets in the store. These types of things should be (and we have confirmation that they will henceforth be) in game rewards. Things we can work towards as we play.

Now, Anet still needs to shuffle things into the store to make them money, and this is exactly where outfits come into play. Things that they couldn’t necessarily (or easily) turn into an armor skin simply due to their design (and the armor mesh set up). These can stay in the store, and you can buy them if you like them.

Yeah? Where are these in-game rewards? They’ve released like 10 outfits since that announcement. We’re at 10-0 for outfits to armor since. And based on http://heartofthorns.guildwars2.com/game/maguuma/ we’re getting 2 armor sets in HoT. So we’ll be 10+however many more outfits we get before HoT which I estimate will be at least 4 – 2.

Pretty good ratio! /sarcasm

when you consider that the 2 armor sets are 6 separate armors: 2 light, 2 medium and 2 heavy then it’s better.

To illustrate this point, when (if) you did the dungeons and collected the tokens, you bought separately from each dungeon one heavy armor set, one light armor set and one medium armor set. One set of tokens didn’t buy a piece that all armor weights could wear. Those who only had one char needed to only buy the one for that armor weight, so each weight can reasonably be counted as one.

I’m sorry I know how to read, it says “2 armor sets” not 6 on the official site.

Set. The definition of a set is a collection of multiple items that are grouped together.

An armor set is 3 different armors that have been grouped into one set. They may or may not be identical in appearance but are usually similar and share a design theme.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

yeah i have serious doubts that we will see any more armor sets in the near future. feels like this is all they have. i can’t imagine that 6 months after release of hot they would introduce say 9 more armor sets.

design decisions have been made by choice and/or circumstance. feels like armor sets are finished as any sort of ongoing development plan.

I’d like it better if outfits was like a choice pack, either the outfit or armour skins. Get the outfit for easy consistent looks while levelling or just not using transmute charges, or get armour skins so you can mix-n-match to your heart’s desire (though you’ll be using transmute charges).

But I guess people would complain about not getting both then.

it isn’t solely a matter of complaint …it is a matter of confusion and concern. again why was the development team able to deliver 50+ sets of armor for each weight class in the first year and a half and only 3 armor sets in the following year and half +?

the wheels have fallen off with armor sets (by inclination/lack of artists and skill/engine problems…possibly all three). with the expac the opportunities were there to revitalize crafting/exploration and just fun. wouldn’t it be cool to actually make some new armor or get armor for completing regions/defeating crazy bosses? all of this abandoned for what is easy..outfits.

i think they have badly misread the player base on the armor issue and this might not be entirely their fault(they might not be capable of making armor anymore)

The Cara/Lumi sets debuted with SW, the last new PvE content we’ve seen. The issue is that tying armor to content requires there be new content. There has not been new content.

But we’ve had content. Loads of it, throughout these 3 years. Just no new armors.

The statement that armor would be in-game rewards and outfits in stores was quite recent. Iirc, it was made somewhere around the SW release. It was a change announced in response to complaints that there were too many armor skins coming out in the store and not in game.

Within the open world of the Heart of Maguuma, you’ll earn and build two new armor sets with unique looks for light, medium, and heavy armor.

You know that this means we’re getting at least five new sets of armour for every weight class, yeah? The two from the open world, plus the new Guild Armour, plus the Precursor and Legendary Armour sets from instanced Raids. Some of the ten new PvP tracks might well provide armour too.

i don’t think people were complaining about the amount of armor skins, if this thread shows anything its that we’re hungry for new skins!
i think the issue was that people who didn’t put money into the game were seeing all of the gemstore armor skins and wanting more armours that they could achieve through gameplay.

honestly it doesn’t matter if the armor skins are in game or on gemstore…the concern is that there aren’t any available. i have gems that i am waiting to spend and nothing to spend them on… i look at outfits with disdain and dissapointment. meanwhile my gems just sit there.

Well, it did matter to a lot of people that armor was in the gemstore. True, many also wanted armor in game but there was a general disdain voiced for armor being sold.

Sample quotes: Zodiac armor thread.

Thank you Arena Net.
Now, how about adding a new armor set that is acquirable without gem store or long grind
?

But their armor designers are working so hard adding flame textures to old sets. They clearly need 10 USD/ use.

Actually, i would prefer buying an expansion with new skills, new armors skins , new weapon skins and new pvp mod like Guild Wars 1, over using the gem shop.

I’d rather wait a whole year with 0 new content and pay 60$ for a new expansion with tons of different new armors, dungeons and real new content.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

I want my clothing tonics converted to skins.

That, and more normal looking stuff.

I’m saying there is reason behind their madness. (And madness behind their reasons).
