Armor > Outfits
You’re not going to change anybodies minds. You’re right but you’re just not going to do it.
They’ll come spinning the same story of how armor is going to be exclusively in-game rewards but fail to acknowledge that since launch we’ve received 2 additional armor sets.
Then they’ll go on about how HoT will have more armor sets when confronted with that argument. And you’ll have to point out this page http://heartofthorns.guildwars2.com/game/maguuma/ which says HoT will only have 2 armor sets.
Then they will have nothing left to say other than what ifs and unconfirmeds.

Lies, so the rest of your statement does not event matter. I will only list the three quick ones that come to mind.
Carapace set
Luminescence set
Glory Set
I would pay too… in fact i did pay a LOT to collect any eventual skins they released on the gem store. I waited for each gem store release for anything new i could possible use to pimp out my chars. I bought some outfit only for its shoulders, the other one cause i liked it whole and as i grew weary of the look i just mixed em to get something completely new and cool out of it. I really liked getting new parts… but alas.. nice times are over. Here.. blogpost quote:
“During Living World Season 2, Crystin took charge of a new team that was organized to improve in-game rewards in Guild Wars 2. Previously, no single dedicated team handled in-game rewards, and individual content teams were responsible for deciding how players would be rewarded. Crystin felt there should be a greater balance between Gem Store item offerings and in-game rewards, and she and the rewards and commerce teams have worked on creating a clear division so that items will fit their method of distribution. For example, armor sets are now exclusively designed as in-game rewards while outfits are primarily Gem Store offerings. Her teams also designed the new transmutation system and helped work on the new wardrobe.”
Nice times are over..and with HoT we get 2 new armor sets, a handfull of loose skins and legendary armor…and 3 sets of weapons and thats it.
Scream as much as you want.. it aint gonna change it, i gave up long ago…

Carapace and Luminescent is the same set. I will concede that I forgot about the glorious set. So Carapace, Glorious and Ascended. 3 sets since launch.

I like Armors much better then Outfits too just because we can mix and match.
But it seems that we won’t see anymore Armor skins in the Gem Store which saddens me.
Unless Anet or a rep of theirs comes out and say we’ll see new Armor skin sets in the Gem Store, I wouldn’t look there for any. Just have to hope we get some with HoT or whatever Living Story is to follow.
Everytime there was armor for sale in the gemstore there was posts saying how armor in the gemstore was a cash grab, ANet was greedy and armor should be in game, not something you have to buy. It seems ANet read and agreed with those posts and now armor is only an ingame reward. The people asked. ANet delivered.
ANet may give it to you.

Well they half delivered, they took the armor out of the gem store. And have released a ton of outfits in the gem store since. But they have yet to release any armors in game since. So saying they delivered is not actually accurate.
The point is there is barely any mix’n match armor anywere. I personally don’t mind paying if needed, but the game doesn’t deliver either in the TP, nor in the World. There should be MUCH MORE armors in the game, and there should be a constant and steady stream of new skins.
People asked for more armors in game.
Well, removing armors from the TP and devoting artist to develope outfits for the TP don’t add more armor to the game.
that it makes every other class in the game boring to play.”

Since then they’ve released the carapace/luminescent so, yes they have released new armor’s in game. 3 sets (heavy, medium and light) or 6, depending on how you want to count it. What the people crying out for armor not in the gem store didn’t think about is that any new armor sets would be tied to major content, of course. So, now no more armor in the gemstore. Only new armor released with major new content. ANet said they would release in game. No promise was made that it would be at the frequency of gemstore armor.
ANet may give it to you.
i totally agree, “all or nothing” is just crappy,
if we could use just one part of the outfit i’d have likely bought ALL of them by now.
as it is now i don’t feel like buying any because the parts i want are glued on to 5 parts i don’t want.
Yes, this would solve it for me: if each outfit was in 6 separate pieces so they could be applied to one or several armor pieces of the character, I’d buy [b]all[/] of the outfits. Not holding my breath, obviously. Money talks, and if people are happy buying outfits, that’s what A-Net will sell.
Armor > Outfits
Time need to create 5 pieces of armor < time need to create 1 outfit
Efficiency bro.
And as long as ppl buy it they won’t change it.
I know it’s sad but welcome in real life…
GW2: Attack of the Clones
I actually don’t see a particular problem with outfits because after they’ve been about for a couple of weeks you barely ever see anyone using them. I see a lot more clones using cultural armour sets or mix and match armour sets which they’ve managed to make identical to the person next to them than people in the same outfits all the time
Yea, looking like everyone else with the same outfit is getting older than old. /been.serious.since
And people are willing and or will happily throw cash at the ability to mix and match, but apparently no ones money is good enough for Anet anymore.

not really,
for existing outfits its not “creating 5 pieces of armour” its just slicing it in to bits, we see alot of already ingame armour is crudely sliced up,
so in reality all they’re making extra is a doodle for the icon and give the parts a name.
for future outfits it would be just as simple as making current outfits, they just don’t join it all together. and then give each piece a name and icon.
and then rather than being able to sell that onepiece to a select few that have no imagination they will sell the outfit to the people who just want the gloves, people who just want the boots, people who want just gloves and boots,
and people who want any of the other 717 mix and match possibilities.
take the easy route and sell to a market of 1.
put in a little bit of extra work and sell to a market of 720.
imho its madness NOT to make them into armour skins and reel in the cash.
edit: i should also note that many of the existing outfits were around before the outfit system so they are already separate parts with icons and names, so Anet wouldn’t even have to put work into them.

Not necessarily the case because you’re assuming that light, medium and heavy armour all fit together in the same way which is rather unlikely. So it could end up that they don’t just have to slice it up, but also recreate each of those bits for every outfit so that they fit together with the different armour models they already use
I prefer outfits, and have every outfit so far available. I like things to be uniform and really dislike mismatched players, i also dislike how the dye colours don’t stay uniform throughout certain armour skins. Sure i may be in a minority but at the end of the day i am buying gems because i enjoy what there is available and i like to change on the go.
The one pet peeve i have is the dye matching with backpieces and weapons for set outfits ie. balthazar weapons and back piece dyes dont match up with the outift, same as dwayna back piece.
I think armour skins are generally bought with in game currency, which most people would do even saying they would buy gems. The armour skins were not generally released in sets so people didn’t really buy them, only if they matched up with what they were looking for.
You are assuming that Anet have the same tastes as everyone in game and can tell exactly what kind of armour skins people are wanting. It simply doesn’t work that way.
Armour skins are simply more work for less gain, which has been proven as they were putting armour skins on the gem store before they started making outfits. GW1 had outfits as far as i am aware which is what they are also doing here.
Armor>outfits. And if I don’t like any of the new armor options with HoT they won’t get my money.
I’d purchased about 8 armor sets from the store and 0 outfits.
Got no use for outfits so I shall not be buying any from the store.
Plus side is I save my cash, lol
The Cara/Lumi sets debuted with SW, the last new PvE content we’ve seen. The issue is that tying armor to content requires there be new content. There has not been new content.
I can’t remember any MMO developer delivering new rewards for its obsolete content, and ANet has been no exception. Revisit the issue of no new armor sets once content starts rolling out again.
I will gladly pay for new armor skins that can be mixed/matched. Outfits are vanilla, and boring. I know they are cheaper and easier for designers to produce (as armor has multiple pieces, etc). If you agree with the need for more armor sets, please add your voice. Maybe we can get A-Net to change their decision to only offer outfits going forward.
Mileage varies. Some people like having a mix of outfits and armor skins:
- We can get more outfits, since they are easier to design.
- As implemented in this game, outfits are free to apply as often as we like. Some players find that fantastic for leveling characters or storage toons.
The OP doesn’t like outfits. That’s fine; they don’t have to buy any.
Future content : new armor skins only from raids.
If you don’t like raids you have to live with outfits.
At least that is what i really fear at the moment
It was at least said that there will not be any more armor skins in the shop
and they will only be earnable directly in the game.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.

I’m guessing armor skins for raids, for wvw, for pvp, and probably living story.
For real though, just two armor sets? Like I was so hyped for more cultural armor ontop of the standard armor sets. My sylvari is dieing to look like a frigging sylvari for once.
Maybe armor sets will become ingame rewards and outfits as store items? I see your point about interchangeability, but maybe if they make outfits as armor, they have to worry about clipping so they have limited freedom with designing outfits. Maybe in the future you can have armor versions of the outfit, ie. while in outfit mode, talk to an npc and that npc will give skins based on your outfit and armor class.
I personally do not like Outfits, as you can not combine these items.
So I will not spend my money for them.
But I really hope that there will be some new and nice Armor that we can buy from the store.

Aint gonna happen, a-net made a blog that skins are exclusive to game rewards now and with the speed they dish that out…
Also the x-pac brings a pitifull amount of skins too… So draw your conclusions from that
I’ve been waiting since day one of the Wardrobe to finally see the light, medium, and heavy roles (for visuals) finally get lifted. Let me worry about clipping.
YES, PLEASE, YES!!! We need more armor sets! Get rid of the outfits, or at least make it so that not all the new cosmetic clothing items are outfits! We want armor sets!
I had made another topic about this earlier (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/New-Armors-not-Outfits-in-HoT/first#post5454586), it seemed kind of dead so I thought not many people supported my opinion. Guess I was wrong!

But we’ve had content. Loads of it, throughout these 3 years. Just no new armors. A truckload of weapon skins and backpieces. The joke was what backpiece would this living story episode now bring.
Glory Armor – PvP only
Carapace and blue carapace – They’re technically the same, the only change is that horrible blue dye.
Think there were a few pieces of an armor in the gemstore at some point?
Some armor even got removed (tribal armor), so yeah, this system is lacking.
+1 to more armor skins. But please actually make different models for each race instead of one and then stretching and ripping it onto other races.

Plus all the armor sets in the Gem Store and the armor sets from achievement point rewards.
We’re getting at least five new armour sets in HoT (two from jungle exploration, one from guilds, one precursor and one legendary). If they stick to Kristin’s philosophies, we may well get more through the Living Story and I have to have hope that they’ve held back some HoT-related things for the sake of the Living World release cadence.
We know that they’re going to hold back Raid Wing 1 for a week, and Raid Wings 2 and 3 for longer. Hopefully they have open-world and story-related things too. I think I recall that_shaman datamining additional Mastery lines.
As for what armours we’ve been given since launch (all ‘sets’, have three variants for the armour weights):
- Many, many backpieces and helms. 48 Backpieces from crafting alone.
- Hellfire Set
- Radiant Set
- Glorious Set
- Carapace Set
- Biolumi. Set (recolour of Carapace)
- Ascended Set
And in the gemstore:
- GW1 Set (Primeval, Krytan, Profane)
- Zodiac Set
- Aetherblade Set
- Flame Set (recolours of existing armours)
- Unmatched Set 1 (Braham’s, Pheonix, Magitech)
- Unmatched Set 2 (Ramparts, Striders, Incarnate)
- Unmatched Set 3 (Phalanx, Trickster’s, Viper’s)
The release of mismatched sets seems to fool people into thinking that the disrepancy between armours released in game and in store is greater than it is. Unfortunately, the disrepancy between weapons is another story…
EDIT Now let’s break down the outfits, shall we.
We have seen 26 outfits released since launch (not countin the ones converted to clothing tonics). Seems like a lot, yes? However, consider that armour sets have three versions. If we group the outfits up into groups of three, we end up with (I’ll round up), nine. That’s less than there have been armour sets. At this point, more work has gone into armour design than outfit design.

Maybe armor sets will become ingame rewards and outfits as store items?
That has already been written .. the big question is only : how grindy will it be
to get those rewards. When i look at the history of this game everytime when
ANet made some things that people in these forums cried for, it in the end
turned out to be just worse.
I hate raids, and i don’t want tocan get new armor only when i force myself to
“work hard” in raids. Thats not what i call fun.
Ah and here is the blogpost :

As an owner of quite a few outfits, ones that I enjoy, I support more mix-and-match armor pieces.
Why?
Because everyone deserves to feel pretty how they choose.
PS: Beldin’s post with the development link shows we’re getting new pieces soon!
“I’m finding companies should sell access to forums,
it seems many like them better than the games they comment on.” -Horrorscope.7632
Isn’t that why you pay for an expansion? For more skins?

Except we’re specifically talking about skins as in-game rewards so… no.
Please stop asking them to put armor sets in the store. These types of things should be (and we have confirmation that they will henceforth be) in game rewards. Things we can work towards as we play.
Now, Anet still needs to shuffle things into the store to make them money, and this is exactly where outfits come into play. Things that they couldn’t necessarily (or easily) turn into an armor skin simply due to their design (and the armor mesh set up). These can stay in the store, and you can buy them if you like them.
i wonder if they have the artists and technical skill to actually make armor sets anymore. this isn’t a snide or snarky question but an honest one. did the artists who made the crafted/dungeon etc.. sets leave? or has it become too complex to model armor now?
they only have 2 new armor sets announced for hot..that would put the number of new armor sets at 3 (cara/lumi) for the last 1 year+ of development. they had 50 or so sets for each weight class in the first 1 year+…
the problems are running deeper than the obvious reasons for outfits (they are super cheap to make).
(edited by Selkirk.4218)
there are about 10+- different full armor sets in the gemstore to buy… I have the skins in my inventory. flamewalkers, striders, incarnat profane, magitech etc etc….
but look at when those were introduced. all of them have been on store for longer than a year or more. i really have my doubts that the art team can actually make armor sets at this point.
it might not even be a matter of wanting to make outfits because they are the cheapest and easiest thing to make (altho they certainly are). but it could be that the present design and art teams simply have an inability to make armor sets anymore…can’t model correctly, can’t design …

Yeah? Where are these in-game rewards? They’ve released like 10 outfits since that announcement. We’re at 10-0 for outfits to armor since. And based on http://heartofthorns.guildwars2.com/game/maguuma/ we’re getting 2 armor sets in HoT. So we’ll be 10+however many more outfits we get before HoT which I estimate will be at least 4 – 2.
Pretty good ratio! /sarcasm

And how does this “commentary” explain the armors that they said this part of the expansion is getting. It sounds more looking for a way to insult the design team than actually saying anything worthwhile.
ANet may give it to you.
actually this is a comparison between what the original design team was able to accomplish (50+ armor sets) and what the present design team is able to accomplish (2 armor sets).
what’s happened? it’s an honest question. how did we get to this point? is the engine too old to update armor sets? can the artists no longer design armor?

when you consider that the 2 armor sets are 6 separate armors: 2 light, 2 medium and 2 heavy then it’s better.
To illustrate this point, when (if) you did the dungeons and collected the tokens, you bought separately from each dungeon one heavy armor set, one light armor set and one medium armor set. One set of tokens didn’t buy a piece that all armor weights could wear. Those who only had one char needed to only buy the one for that armor weight, so each weight can reasonably be counted as one.

If they are only putting armor ingame and if the sets are going to be a reward for doing content, then the number put out for this expansion will have to match the number of content rewards “quests” that can reasonably fit the size of the content. Silverwastes had one set of 3 armors. This is 4 maps so 2 sets of 3 armors isn’t too unreasonably low. It’s also possible (probable, imo) that more will be coming later.

Another broken thread. I would ask for them to fix this but then I thought of my signature…..
