Does anyone else think that if you do not wear Heavy Armor, you kind of got the sort end of the stick in terms of armor aesthetics? I have three toons right now, an 80 thief, 60 necro, and 47 guardian. It took many dungeon runs to get my thief to look remotely decent with gear. For my Guardian, I just had to transmute some low level stuff to look good.

I think heavy armor looks the best, and, sadly, medium armor is terrible. I see many guardians and warriors running around lookin’ ballin…and every other armor type looking terrible. Was Arenanet asleep when they designed medium/light armors?

Medium armor is horrible. Light and Heavy are much better looking.

There’s just very little variety with medium armor. If you don’t like trench coats, you’re out of luck. I went through all of the medium armor more than once looking for just the right look on my engineer, and only two sets don’t have coats. Unfortunately, both of these sets show ridiculous amounts of skin on females. On males they’re actually just more coats. Also, one of them was human cultural armor.

Heavy armor has a lot more variety, but you’re also out of luck if you don’t like skirts, as there are only about two or three sets that have pants instead.

And light armor? Well, you get plenty of variety, but it all just looks terrible. Also, there are no hats.

I think with medium armor, you are correct..either trench coats, little surgeon masks and a swash-bucklers hat(ok the hat was cool for about 15 levels..Its oh-so lame for the rest of your leveling experience).

Even at 80 on my thief, I was hard pressed to find sets I liked. The only ones I like are the cultural sets for sylvari(too expensive to consider), the TA exotic set, inquest exotic set, and CoF exotic set. Thats it. I wont even bother running the other dungeons.

Even the crafted gear is only so-so.

To Anet, please work on better medium armor gear, with more diversity. With the gear progression in the game being very horizontal and not verticle, and with it being focused on aesthetics not statistics, I almost dont want to log onto my thief because theres only a few sets that I enjoy looking at.

Actualy i think the Order of Whispers medium set is probably the best looking in the game, especialy the hod, bracers and shoulder combo.

Overall i find the exotic karma sets and the pvp sets to be dissapointing but it´s a good basis to work on future sets.

There are some good looking trenchcoats for medium armor.

The problem is that if you don’t like trenchcoats, you have an extremely limited set to choose from.

I don’t have any complaints for light and heavy.

I agree with the thing about the medium armor sets. They are not ugly, and I know there some even more nicely looking end-game templates, but when levelling a medium armor wearer, you are doomed to 80 levels of trenchcoats.
Some variation of levelling medium armor would be great.

Yeah a leather trenchcoat would not be bad to me but most of the ones I’ve encountered look like I’ve wrapped a mattress around myself

I’m sticking with this until I hit 80: http://imageshack.us/a/img801/268/gw006p.jpg

Although I’m still trying to find a decent pair of boots, gloves & shoulders. So just the chest, pants & hat. :P

:edit:

Actually… the boots are growing on me. I still dislike the shoulders & gloves though.

I agree with the medium armor being horrible. In fact yesterday I had some trouble choosing which next character to create. I really would like to roll a thief but the medium armor sets are really poor when compared with heavy and light sets. That’s why I’m rolling an elementalist.

Light armor is amazing- if you are a female humanoid character.

Medium armor is too uniform, with the belted vest and trenchcoat look. Although some of the cultural (norn in particular) and some of the Karma armor are good, the selection is pitiful compared to the others.

Heavy armor is bulky and crazy. I suppose it’s good artistically, but it’s just not my style by a long shot. The norn and asura (makes you look like a mini golem) t3 are great though

i have two female characters, a human (light) and sylvari (medium).

i honestly do not like any of the light armors except for the whispers armor, but i didn’t know that until i picked the priory (ughhhhhhhhh). i also really want the light “mesmer-esque” armor that was featured during the build up to release but is now nowhere in the game. some of the light armors look good from the front, but then the “butt capes” kind of ruin it for the back. The only half-decent short skirt shows your butt while you run, which isn’t really appealing to this heterosexual lady.

lucky for me, i have picked out a medium cultural armor for my sylvari that i love but the other cross-race stuff does seem pretty weak.

I really wish you could wear other armor types. Maybe for certain slots atleast. Who cares if an Elementalist looks like he’s wearing plate. There are alot of Head Pieces that would match with any armor type, especially when it comes to Cultural Gear. Being shut out of 2/3 of all armor skins is awful.

And I kind of wish there wasn’t such a big distinction in armor looks between races, or atleast let us pick and choose. Why can’t I get charr butt-chaps on my other races, or have a tight wrapped (asura) hood on another race?

I think the biggest issue is that during the design process, the art team members responsible for drafting up the designs may have boxed themselves in too tightly. I don’t see why light and medium armor can’t have SOME metal incorporated into their designs. I really like how some of the light armors look, especially “Seer’s” as it’s called in the Mist PvP Locker, and Dredge definitely breaks the norm, though I find the Dredge sets far too bulky personally. However, there are many more light and heavy armors that I enjoy than I do medium armors. A lot of them really are samey.

I get that part of the purpose is to make the sets “at a glance” easy to identify and keep them near strictly cloth/leather/metal, but seriously ArenaNet, for the sake of offering a variety of styles, let go of that mindset.

Also, design contests. Because I personally would love to see something I design end up in game, even if I’m mediocre in designing anything!

The only 2 sets i like are the Light T3 armor for Humans and the Karma armor “Stately” set. both for elementalist.

i could also like Eir’s armor (norn T3 wolf), but the top two get my attention the most. dungeon armor doesn’t look good to me, at all.

some guild members pinged different armor sets, where, even though i am an ele, i can preview heavy armor. some of what i previewed looked sweet. i wish the armor class wasn’t locked for professions. Glass cannons with heavy armor might have better survivability, or something.

On my ranger I have a leather tunic with blousy sleeves and tight pants tucked into knee-high folded boots. Personally, I really like the look, and I dread having to give it up, as every leather coat I’ve found so far other than that has been the leather trenchcoat style.

I found some chain armor last night and idly previewed it to see what it would look like (since my warrior is also a human), and I REALLY wish I could use that look on my ranger. A chain shirt, pauldrons, and leather pants was just such a really nice look! Reminded me of a bard.

Pity we can’t transmute appearance between armor types. Just disable it in pvp if people are worried about that.
