I mean, where’s the depth customization if I can’t wear a set of gear that has precisely the stat combo I want?

What if I want Precision/Ferocity/Healing Power gear? Sorry, that’s not available…..why not?

Since we have 9 different stats and each piece of gear has 3 stats then will need 84 different kinds of gear.

So? Many gear sets already use the same model.

I don’t see what your point is.

Let’s break it down. There’s Power, Precision, Ferocity, Toughness, Vitality, Healing Power, Conditional Damage, Condition Duration, and Boon Duration.

That’s 9 different stats.

Pick one for a primary and two out of the other 8 for secondary. There’s a total of 9 x (8 choose 2) = 252 possible combo. + 1 for celestial. That’s 253 different combo.

If each piece of equipment has 253 different combo. Let’s see

Armor there are 18 pieces (6 pieces for each armor type)
Weapons: there are 19 different weapons
There are 6 accessory pieces, each with 3 different infusion type (offense, defense, utility) So there are 18 accessory pieces

Total: (18+19+18)x 253 = 55 × 253 = 13915 different items that ANET will need to create for the ascended tier alone. But wait there’s more

Each item can be slot with an infusion. There are 5 infusions x 4 of each type (normal +4, there’s the +5, wvw infusion and versatile). Each need a different code or at least an item entry that need to MANUALLY entered

so there are at least 13915 × 20 = 278,300 extra items that need to be designed or at least coded.

In Alpha gear didn’t have stats and your stats were based off your attributes, but that project was scrapped as they thought it made the game too confusing.

If you want that combination, you’re going to have to use Celestial.

Why can’t we just choose stats any piece of gear? You pick from the pool of all stats 1 major and 2 minor or celestial.

If you still want to require people to have multiple gear sets for multiple stats, make the stat selection permanent.

This is possibly the best solution.

This would be WAY TOO CLOSE to a GW1 kind of solution and we all know there will be none of that! /end sarcasm.

This would, effectively destroy crafting and require a major overhaul to the current system of stats. However, I think this is has Ascended/Legendary stats sh should have been implemented from the beginning.

Suggestion: From a CDI/horizontal progression, this would be an AMAZING opportunity for Anet to release a new tier of gear called ’Unique’’ (‘Custom(ized)’, ‘Personal’, ‘Hero’, etc.). Though the name of tier is trivial and not important, the concept is INCREDIBLE and would open the ‘floodgates’ for making a more diverse and less restricted build system, while staying true to the GW1 philosophy of "If you can imagine it, then you can build it!).

When Champions Online On Alert went live, Cryptic changed gear so that 3 of the 6 pieces had open slots, which players could then fill with the stats of their choice. Oddly enough, the max level gear had three stat slots — though they were all potentially equal. The pursuit then became finding and crafting the mods to put in those slots.

I would find a system like that to be very enjoyable in GW2, though I don’t expect that ANet will go away from the whole, “We have 20 different sets of gear with different stats, and players still want more combinations.”

The kicker with the CO system — which is similar to what we see in GW2 — is that the stats which contributed most to damage were much pricier than the ones that didn’t. So, even if ANet were to make every possible stat combo for gear, most of them would seldom be used.

I have much more to add including a detailed plan for how it could work with minimal strain on the current system and contributing to a very positive environment moving forward. However, I’m very tired right now and the chances of the ‘right person’ with an open mind and the power to make change are very slim so I’m gonna go do something else now. Maybe, I’ll add some more tomorrow regarding the finer details.
