Armors in Guild wars- Don't Follow WoW
I agree with this. Sometimes less is more. I even think most of the legendaries are overdone. My favorite sword in Guild Wars 1 was the fiery gladius. It looked like a sword. You know, the kind of thing you might actually fight with.
This whole bigger, flashier thing is great for some people, but horrible for others. At least give us a chance to have great looking armors that look like armors.
I just remember huge shoulders on WoW, that is all that you would ever see, just the shoulders -.-
Don’t even get me started on the weapons. Aaaa-freaking-mazing
My favorite for warrior was this baby, http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:Sword_of_the_Kinslayer.jpg
There were some particle affects with them, but not nearly as much. Each unique item had a unique look and was very identifiable.
particle effects already seems a show of prestige in this game, I think you guys will be sad if legendary armour ever comes

Come on now. The ridiculous skimpy armors for female humans and now Norns…

Hey now. The light armor may be skimpy but it’s nice to see heavy armor where men and women are BOTH adequately protected!
….even if women do have shaped breastplates…
My flat female toon must have a ‘pushup’ trench coat…. (ducking)
I’m thinking that when your in the middle of a Zerg sometimes the only way you can make out your toon is the color/effects on your weapon.
I cut my gaming teeth on Adventure&ZorkI,II,III.

Maybe, I hope they don’t make legendary armors super have all these ridiculous stuff.
Something I didn’t like about the legendaries wasn’t so much the particle effects (the amount of grind/money you need for them is ridiculous, so more power to the people who bother grinding for them…or buying them online from a third party haha) but how some of them were serious legendaries, and some of them were not. Like the axe, torch, horn, sword, 2 hander swords, mace, etc were all really serious. Then you have shortbows and moot and what not which are mostly just troll looking weapons. Really have no serious about them and are just there for the giggles. At least that is what I feel. I wish they did legendaries to all be serious, then have skins which are still really hard to get, and are troll like (if they really have to feel the need to put in troll like weapons).

I actually kind of thought it was funny how my Monk’s breast size seemed to change depending on the armour set she was wearing…
I think the “don’t get ridiculous” ship sailed at about the time people started shooting Rainbow Unicorns.
My favorite sword in all of GW1 was the simple NF model Gladius. My favorite shield was the simple Lion shield. I won’t have to grind a Legendary, thank goodness, they are all waaay over the top for me.
Even non legendary. I know, working my WS and Hunter craft classes up, I was just appalled at the rare skins, dredge, ogre, ugh. Weapons wise I don’t have a single rare weapon I made that retains its default skin, all are muted to Kryta style or the white default appearances.

Haahaaa. Or Ancient armor on a Rit.
Personally I like that they have a mix of serious and silly, flashy and subtle, skimpy and full coverage etc. because if you don’t have that choice then your decision is meaningless. This way even people choosing sensible weapons and armor can make a statement about their personality and preferences.
Also because it’s nice to have some variety. I have 5 characters and whilst my human might want to look decent and respectable my sylvari might decide she doesn’t “get” this fascination with clothes and would rather wear as little as possible (and also I spent a lot of time picking a skin pattern and bioluminescence for her and I want to see it). I could also see her never forgiving me for making her an ele so she’ll never be able to shoot rainbow unicorns at her enemies.

I may be weird, but as a SB wielding ranger, I really do want the Dreamer. Unicorns and rainbows and all.

That’s okay. It’s widely known that people differ by their tastes. Problem lies in it being the only legendary option. If there were two options for each weapon – one legendary, but more “classic”, and the other from the “over the top” cathegory, it’d be okay.

What this person said. And I’ll defend my Steel Bra Norn forever, since people can get practical, “real”, and puritan armor for their chars. I’m not above being silly, and love choices.
I’d never take your pony bow away More choice.. not choice removed.
Actually, there are a lot of people who can’t get the ‘right’ aesthetic for their characters. As a female scholar, you have the choice between puritan, or looking like you fell off the back of a carnival float. There aren’t any simple pants, there’s only one short skirt, there are no minidresses, the only ‘tribal/ritualist’ style is limited to PvP, and the only outright elegant option needs you to have played GW1 to get.
… I think everyone’s covered the issue of trenchocoats as they relate to medium armour wearers. Heavy armour has the most stylistic variety, although next to the choices available for GW1’s warriors, there are still some gaps that could be filled.
Of course, it is a little unfair to compare a game that’s had a number of expansions and content releases to what is essentially a vanilla game. Hopefully GW2’s armour options will broaden as the game goes forward. I would /definitely/ pay good moneys to get some of the old skins though. And some of the old costumes too. Dragonguard, for a start.
Yes please, at this point I’m already sick of every person I see in full abyss cof.
Make good armour, not flashy armour. Flashy armour is the equivalent of those neon signs you see outside cheap fish and chip shops. Good well designed armour is the equivalent of a coherent design you might see outside a bank or something. I think we can all say which one gets our attention more, but agree on which one we would rather look at.
really bad engineer
I think GW2 armors are fine for the most part.
Through mix-matching you can be good-looking on any character.
I mix and match, but I can’t emulate the styles of my GW1 characters. GW1 had pants without any kind of floppy covering and a much wider variety of silhouttes.
I find it harder to mix and match in this one, at least I felt that way with medium armors.
But if they decide to add more legendaries, they should really have two options. One serious, one funny.
The armors right now are pretty good, I’m sure it will get better if they decide to add in more expansions.
Personally I like some particle effects on the armor, just nothing overdone.

I think it should be very minimal. Nothing close to legendaries or fractal weapons. It would be cool to see some small ones, but I dont want to feel like I stepped back into WoW.
From a personal opinion standpoint, I prefer more detail over more particle effects.
Every time I see one of the overdone greatsword legendaries I wonder if the owner isn’t trying to overcompensate for something.
Seriously, it’s as if Lady Gaga designed a spangly version of the Washington Monument, and then someone decided to sling it on their back and call it a sword.
While I am very tempted by the prospect of getting Bolt and watching as lightning strikes every time I make a clone (eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee*incomprehensible schoolgirl noises*), I can agree on the armor particles being a bit annoying.
I’ve gotten pretty sick of the CoF fire armors at this point, they’re everywhere and the look just gets old after you see it long enough.
The only time the animations are alright is if they’re subtle touches to the design like the chain on the greatsaw or the rotating gears on the Whispers gear
Sybol – Healing Bunker Charr Mesmer (80)
Dresdon Honorclaw – Zerk All-Ranged Charr Warrior | Hawke Fullmoon – Melee Ranger
Actual some fancy fun armors should be added. I mean how are you not fine with armor yet fine with weapon skins?
