Hi,

I just started playing Guild Wars 2 on Wednesday as a Sylvari Guardian, and I was wondering if it would be beneficial for me to develop Armorsmithing while I level? Will this provide me with equipment to wear, or perhaps make me some money by selling what I create?

Any information would be greatly appreciated,

Jupi.

In my experience I leveled up faster than my crafting skill did. So right now you could make armor to use for yourself but you might eventually outgrow your crafting discipline if you don’t keep it up. Crafting gives experience too, so it’s a good idea to do crafting if you want some easy experience.

What Zone said is right, and since ascended equip came out, the price of low level material is extremely high, you can probably make a good profit by selling the material itself.

As i leveled my first character I would just use stuff given by the personal story and drops I got by the monster I killed, in GW2 your understanding of the combat mechanic and your skills will determine the outcome of a fight more than your gear. And usually masterwork and fine gear drop fairly easy, you shouldn’t have too much problem.

It depends if you’re going to do mainly PvE, and if you have a lot of gold (crafting mats are really expensive these days). If you are going to do heart tasks & dynamic events, then you might as well level up armorsmithing, but if not, just use the armor from karma vendors throughout the zones.

Wait on the crafting until around level 40-50, that’s where the payback from discovery and creating is large enough and you’ve had time to build a bank of mats to build from. In my experience (I have a crafter level of 400 in jewelry, cooking, tailor, armorsmith; 500 in weapon smith, artificer, leather smith and huntsmen), jewelry is the easiest to start with, leather smith is second. I would hold on armor smith because at the top end of the spectrum, the mats are outrageously pricey. Another by product of crafting is salvaging to create your own luck to increase magic find.
