They already have infusion slots, defensive ones. That is enough for another +30 … except Aquatic Ruins of course. -_-
It’s not worth crafting in my opinion.
I was considering the chest armor and leg armor at the most but, the stat difference is so negligible that I’m glad I won’t have to bother with this abominable grind.

Strange only one piece but maybe Anet thinks we will only go a full set of something… I have a feeling we will see allot of people picking zerka for the shoulders and other things for the rest. as the extra points makes the +crit even worse of a points loss on ascended armor then it already was with exotics when you compare it to trinkets that has the best point loss per crit.

I count 2 + 1 + 5 + 1 + 4 + 1 = 14 on primary stat. I’m not sure if the error is in the quoted individual stats or in the math to arrive at the difference.
Seems …. worthless increase considering the cost to craft. I’m assuming you can put infusions in them at the very least?

What about slots? Do Ascended armor have 1 rune slot and 1 (defensive?) infusion slot too, similar to weapons?

The stat increase on Ascended vs Exotic armour is so tiny, miniscule that you would be MADDER, than MAD MAC MACONTISH of CLAN MADNESS who lives on MAD island to craft/spend any money to get it.
Basically everyone can pretty much ignore/pretend it does not exist unless you get it as an RNG drop, in which case its a tiny bonus.
Meglobob your forgetting that they now have infusion slots that can get +5+10 extra stats or utilities and AR
sometimes people want it because its at the top! … same goes for forged items that cost 500 Charged lode stones… they offer nothing but the " this is a top end item " bla bla bla so people try and get it.
Well its always been know that trinkets and the weapons carry the bulk of the stats not the armor. +5% of little is little. Consider yourself lucky you sent running celestial like me. +7all stat with zero increase to crit dmg. The infusions add almost as much increase lol.

Exotic shoulders that give Crit Damage offer a 2% boost, not 3%. Are you sure you’re not talking about Leggings, which at the Exotic tier offer 3%?
I’m glad ascended doesn’t make exotic worthless. I left the game after the November 2012 patch that introduced this new tier and came back one year later. It’s good to know that the vertical progression treadmill is negligible. The only ascended items I intend to get are trinkets since I only need laurels for them.

this is very relieving to me, as i was gonna quit the game if the stat difference was significant. i have no plans on grinding crafting or fractals, so a large stat difference would have meant another WoW gear grind for me, which means /quitforever.
does anyone know the TOTAL difference between exo and ascended? (trinkets, weapon and armor)? is it something like 5%?
It is more than 5 % the weapon damage alone is about 5 % + stats.
For Condition Spec you dont need a ascended weapon, and as engi also not cause Kits have there own base damage.

In a way it has have you seen the price of crafted exotic its a good time to buy the sets you always wanted at the exotic level i think even settlers are drooping in prices some.
I come from ff11 so all of this Ascended to me was the HQ or +1 version of wepon/armor to me. Ppl would go head over heal to get the +1 (often it would give you +2 acc +2 attk and a bit of small buffs) to the point of the normal armor being in the ranges of 100 times cheaper then the +1 version. There is something about the mind set of the MMORPG player no game is immune to this i think it has a lot to do with an evaluational “red queen” type of thinking. Humans are made to be on treadmills to the point that they will make up treadmill even if there are non to be found.

Jski.6180 … What you said it true… BUT! i have hundreds of gold and even more gold worth of materials! i have enough for two sets of Ascended armor just not in any rush to grab the Damask (Time gated) so I’m happy to wait a week or two for the Trading post price of Damask prices to drop a little bit. while i craft most of the Damask i need.
Its not always about +1 or +2 extra stats that do next to nothing but new content is new content that people like to play around with even if its not very useful.

Those people are now complaining that ascended is useless and not worth the time.
The only issue with ascended is that u cant forge it, you can trade it you cant sell it,, you cant do anything that you can do with exotic.. if it is truly to be the next tire item it should have all the freedoms that exotics have.
Also – Did Anet Nerf berserker ascended by leaving out any +Crit increase VS exotic.. how CRAP is that!
They did a very good job with ascended armors imo. Stats diff is minimal, so basically you can play with exo with no problems at all. Nerds have something new to farm and waste their time on, while other players can enjoy the game as they want since they are not forced into getting these new armors. Plus skins are horrible, which is cool.
I am actually happy to see this. It IS an increase but not enough to mean Exotics are out the window, just enough to make a min/maxer want them to have BiS.
The grind is there for those that want to be special… and its not going to affect us (mainly dedicated WvW players who hate crafting) to the point of us all jumping ship just for this.

Berserker Ascended gear gets a 1+ Crit on the “leggings”.. Thats it as far as extra crit damage on the set goes!

That’s perfect balance. I like Anets approach to this. We can craft the ascended equipment, it takes a while to get the top tier equipment, but even a semi casual like me can eventually get ascended.
It doesn’t unbalance WvW too badly though.
I like how ascended is just slightly better than exotics – great design descision and in line with what I expected.
But as a semi casual I’ll still craft it and buy all the trinkets.
The damage formula is (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Damage):
Damage done = (Weapon Strength) * Power * (skill-specific coefficient) / (target’s Armor)
I haven’t properly looked into it (will probably do another time), from what I quickly calculated (so there might be errors) for a zerker build guardian :
Ascended weapon provides +5% Weapon Strength compared to exotic (all ascended weapons do, as a minimum, I know this is correct).
Ascended armor set provides around +5% Armor (note, this is not the same as defense).
Now the total major/minor stat boosts are the things I haven’t fully worked out yet.
Only considering power as the major stat, I think it provides around another +5% Power (including offensive infusion slots vs exotics with rubies). That’s not factoring the minor stats, which would be increased crit rate + increased crit damage.
So yeah, hit harder and take less damage vs an exotic geared player.
In fact, 2 equally ascended geared players hit harder each other, since the defense on the armor set isn’t high enough to completely cancel out the increased damage output (assuming you use power as a stat in your gear).
I laugh at everyone who say ascended is useless. Hah! Chums.
Putting numbers like that out of context is really ridiculous and tells us nothing (sadly). If we’re going to talk numbers let’s approach this the logical way (instead of the emotional, which is looking at the minor numerical difference and then dying a little inside). The percentual difference between an exotic piece and an ascended piece in pure armor is 4.95 (100 – (1271/1211*100)).
The following is hyperbole.
If the average armor of a player in exotics is 3000 (to simplify stuff) the comparative ascended armor would be at 3148 armor (3000*1,0495). Now you think “well that’s barely any difference!” but remember that one piece of exotic armor is worth in average 201 armor. Since we have low-armor pieces (of 121) and high-armor pieces (of 363) going for the average is dumb (total value/amount of gear pieces) so the median (middle-number) might be better, which in this case would be 182 (121 121 182 182 242 363).
Basically a full ascended gear loadout is equal to adding another slot of gear for strength (between head/shoulders and hands/foot in worth). That’s insane!
Imagine the impact this will have on World versus World.

If the average armor of a player in exotics is 3000 the comparative ascended armor would be at 3060(3000 + 60) armor, and that’s provided we are talking about Heavy Classes.
Given that Ascended Armor can have 6 Defensive Infusions, we end up at 3090(3060 + 30) provided we use Toughness Infusions.
Even with Toughness as primary attribute, we end up at 3104(3090 + 14) Toughness.
104 Toughness difference ends up being 3.47% extra Armor compared to Exotics, and that’s provided you waste your 6 defensive infusiton slots on Toughness instead of using Omni Offensive Infusions for +power and using Toughness as your main attribute.
For me as someone who plays only open World PvE the difference is not even 1% i think since i don’t care about infusions.
So if i have normally around 2000 STR total the 14 more is less than 1 percent for example.
