Ascended Gear = Legendary without Sparklies
Not totally happy about it still, but i am way more satisfied than i was before this about the whole thing.
After they fix with zones being dead and make ascended gear obtainable from various other places than just FoTM as they intended, then i’m starting to be happy about this.
Yess my thoughts
You can also gain ascended items through the mystic forge, much like a legendary precursor….
There is a set recipe…..
250 Tier 6 Craft Items
50 Globs of Ecto
40 Crystals
an Essence (a pink one)
this gets you +5 agony resist
To infuse the item you will need a further 250 ectos
So you need 300 Ectos (between 200 and 300 rare or exotic drop salvages, depending on your luck)
And 250 rare (uber rare) tier 6 craft items
But apparently, this may change as well……….
Legendaries have the exact same stats as Exotics… Ascended items increase the stats over Exotics. They are not even remotely the same.
Legendary weapons have always been slightly better weapon damage wise than their exotic counter parts. So no, legendaries are not the same as exotics. Rings and back are par for the course, slightly better, no real advantage.
I’ve come to peace with the whole Ascended thing but my lack of motivation to play the game since the new content was released persists. Maybe I’ll get that motivation back someday but I fear that when I do, I’ll enter the game and many of the people in LA will be looking almost exactly the same except for the poor players or the players with less time to dedicate. Honestly though, I would rather look unique in a crowd than have the highest numbers on my gear.
I’ve kind of lost my motivation to play with the ascended update… Before the update I was running around having fun with my exotics, hoping for event updates to make many of the ones we already have more dynamic and few new events too. I was also hoping that after launch they would have updated Gw2 to make some of the “lower level” areas viable (or more precisely worthwhile) for “high level” play.
The loot system is, and has been, a vertical one since launch. The loot and mats from lower level areas are used to get you to that next tier and then forgotten about, made obsolete. Which is too bad, as they could have and should have gone with a more creative and intuitive looting, crafting, etc. systems that made and kept the entire game more horizontal. Crafting should use more mixes of materials in high level crafting recipes, using more of both low tier mats and a few high tier ones to create and use more composites, alloys, etc. for recipes, to continue the need for what are now essentially obsolete materials.
Events could have been added regularly to the game, even replacing older ones, that have been adapted to challenge players with developing bolder and more intelligent strategies, rather than merely raising enemy damage output, hp, defense, etc (or adding new status effects that require gear treadmilling for that matter).
If they really wanted players to be eased into “slowly, but surely” working towards their legendary (if they even want one) they should have made that tier, between exotic and legendary, precursor items. What I mean is making it easier to obtain precursors through merely playing the game and making them soul bound to the player.
Run enough dungeons; get any precursor.
Play enough events; buy any precursor with karma.
Loot enough items/gold; buy one from a special vendor.
Crafting; obtain the mats and craft any precursor.
Most items for legendaries should not be marketable and should be soul bound to a players character (a few could be account bound though).
Precursors should be the “bridge” to a legendary. Ascended gear has nothing to do with Lgendaries at the moment, so I call b.s. on Anets response.

False. They have the EXACT same stats. Don’t rely on the gw2db stats, that’s outdated.

That’s incorrect as I remember it. Legendaries shared the same stats as exotics before they chucked the manifesto into the bin.
The people over at AN keep digging their grave deeper and deeper. If you were to have followed this whole fiasco you would of heard Chris and Mike both state " the current power of legendaries will be updated" meaning they plan to increase their stats because if you apply the current stat cost to ascended weapons it would mean that the ascended weapons would have more stat allocation making them more powerful that current legendaries so it begs to question will everyone get their legendary updated to the new system and if so seeing as how current legendaries are nothing more than exotics with fancy skins why cant exotics be updated as well.
And what use are the Legendaries and Ascended items, so you can look good in Lions arch with the rest of the Legendary owners? Really all that work for a single item that is suppose to raise you to heights of godhood…i don’t get it at all i guess..
And the Ascended gear is just a terrible concept added on top of a great game, as long as i can buy or easily make Ascended gear like Exotics now i’m fine if not and this treadmill continues i’ll move on..

No, they haven’t.
The only time legendaries were more powerful was when they made the mistake in the patch and they were increased to ascend level. Only for a few hours they were reverted back.
The point to horizontal progression was not better stats but better cosmetics. They were always the same stats as exotics and that hasnt changed.
When Ascend weapons are released they will get bumped up to BiS. That is why they are now mandatory. Because of the new implementation they will always be BiS and will be perpetually raised so you dont keep grinding this one thing.
Well thats bullkitten if thats the case Im done with this game now. Perpetually giving the best weapon in the game because you farmed a weapon once 20 years ago is horsekitten, one weapon is all you’ll need for the next umten years through patch and expansions thats like buying a yugo in 1976 then getting a Ferrai in 2013 for free.
