Every time I read about someone vending his excess ascended rings for 5 silver I cringe a little. Of course, once you have more than 2 rings per level 80, you don’t have much else to do with them. They’re account bound on acquire, so you can’t sell them on the trading post nor trade them with your friends. So they either sit in your bank taking up space, or are sold for a measly 5 silver. What is the benefit of such a system?

The devs mentioned that they wanted players to be able to acquire ascended tier gear by playing however they wanted. Wouldn’t the easiest way of doing this involve making the gear available on the Trading Post? No matter how you play the game, you earn gold or loot you can sell for gold. You can even use gold to buy legendary weapons on the trading post. Why can’t you do the same for ascended items which are probably a fraction of the cost?

I just want to be able to at least salvage them. I was hoping this update would provide an alternative to just vendoring them, but I guess not. I’m gonna go ahead and merch my 10+ spares now cause I really need the bank space.

I also agree that we should be able to salvage ascended rings. I know a common argument against this is that this would give “fractal farmers” an advantage. This is not really the case since the rings are only obtainable from the daily chest. An average player would obtain a few at most per day.

Even a more devoted FOTM player would not gain much from farming dailies. I will use myself as an example:

I have two characters with fractal level 40+. This means I have access to eight level 10+ fractals, which means I can get a max of 8 rings a day. Obviously I would be lucky enough to get even 4 rings depending on the RNG. Also, no sane person would even do 8 fractal runs a day. A fast fractal run can completed in under an hour, however at higher levels they can get dragged up to 2 hours depending on group/fractal maps etc. Basically, “ring farming” is not really efficient. I can probably gain more by farming rares.

I have over 40+ rings, but it is something I have accumulated over a month or two which is quite a long period of time.

In short, there is really no such thing as “ring farming” and FOTM frequenters do not really gain a significant advantage from salvaging rings.

I know this is going off topic, but I just want to explain why being able to salvage these rings would not hurt or disadvantage casual players.

Well playing devils advocate, the reason why ascended items are not, or should not, be open for TP / trade is that it undercuts the exotic market.

Exotics sell for 2 gold primarily because they can be salvaged for ectos.
Even if ascended items could be salvaged for ectos they would inherently take the place of exotics on the market price point.
Exotics then would need to cost less to be attractive for those who want to equip those exotics, otherwise they would buy the ascended gear.

My suggestion is make them have a different category of binding – “Cannot be sold or mailed” use of this will open up ascended gear to your guildies but not affect market what-so-ever. (I could be wrong in that a black market will support this)

this is the problem basically. because they have around 0 cost to make and alot of people are sitting on alot of them. then this would crash the market on rings. and would make exotic rings totally useless. and i’m afraid that a black market would occur if they could be traded between guilds.

the only thing that could be added is that you can salvage them. and from that get some fractal relics and maybe some ectos. not much. but at least something. the 5s is just so underwhelming.
