It’s really awesome that they wasted so much time on this that literally no one will bother with now. Great job guys. :P

I believe the implementation of this didn’t take long at all.. But yeah the new implementation sucks. I was hoping I’d get 2/3 of my weapons through crafting with Hunstman and the Axe I didn’t have weaponsmith for I’d just buy for matrices + 60g which I had almost gathered up, and now I’m forced to rely on a random weapon drop since I don’t like crafting and don’t feel like leveling another proffession to 500.

This is the saddest thing I have seen in a long time…

That’s also coming from someone who already has a set of full ascended gear.

Also didn’t Anet say some time ago that they were all about people being able to jump right into what they enjoy doing and less grindy? Because this is telling me otherwise, especially if people like Fractals.

Its better than before where I didn’t even bother to continue to do the recommended dailies for pages when I had the Legendary Backpiece right when it was available to craft.

So the fractal vendor is no longer an alternative to crafting.

Well that sucks…

And unfortunately the amount of silk needed was put so high because of how cheap it is currently, but if a future patch changes that and silk goes back up, this recipe will never be adjusted if recent trends continue.

Yep which is why – if they wanted to go down this road of requiring crafting – the crafting part should have been some simple thing just to “prove” you had the craft at 500 and the rest of the cost should have been pure, simple gold.

If this (or some other changes) impacts the T5 market these could easily prove more expensive than regular crafting would be. I can’t see them adjusting anything if that occurs.

We can look forward to the new “silk farm” they’ll be adding in a future fractal.

Remember the TP is the primary gold sink in the game. So they want to funnel everyone desperate for mats to use it.

I dunno.. The only real “reason” I can see behind the changes to “purchasing” Ascended armor by crafting bits and bobs, is to maintain the cost of crafting it.. :/

Don’t forget

Ascended vending is not intended to be the optimal path for acquiring ascended gear, but rather a way for players to acquire the gear through time spent playing their preferred game mode. And while ascended vending now requires max level crafting, players that obtain ascended gear via vending will see a moderate discount in cost over traditional crafting.

So not the preferred over crafting but slightly cheaper than crafting.

That’s the definition of useless: can be a bit less expensive, but no one will use over crafting if is more convoluted.

What I don’t understand is why they introduced the new vendors: no one in PvP is going to waste time in the tokens now; if you only do PvP you are going to forget that ascended shards exists, as many, many other useless currencies in the game. And if you care about ascended gear you just go to crafting & TP as always. Literaly the new vendors has 0 value (as jewelry crafting). The exist, but have no purpose.

Over 2000 views and 60 comments no comment from anet. sounds about right,
Anyways, Does any think this has something to do with later farming for legendary armor ? yes I know that would be counter productive because this change will keep more people out of raids to get the LI’s but you know Anet logic!

PS. guildmate raged quit guild and maybe game cause in her word "bleep this bleepy crafting system. I’m not bleenen crafting! (bleep equals curse words im sure you can guess the blanks.)

We can look forward to the new “silk farm” they’ll be adding in a future fractal.

New fractal: “Bathroom of Annihilation”, a challenging group content against endless hoards of evil living laundry, implemented to solve the fabric prices problem. Brought to you by developers of loved and honed centaur leather farm.

Update on the price comparison.

It takes 20 marks to buy an entire set of armor. The price to craft enough marks for an entire set has risen to between 346 gold (for heavy) and 376 gold (for light), making the total cost of purchasing a set of ascended armor range from 360 -390 gold, opportunity cost of fractal relics not included.

The cost to craft a full set of light ascended armor is only up to 393 gold. In other words, its equal cost to craft or buy at this point depending on what stats you want, not counting the opportunity cost of the fractal relics. This also doesn’t take into consideration the fact that you need more timegated mats to purchase the ascended armor than you do to craft it.

I’m still not a fan of this implementation ANet.

Illconceived Was Na.9781

Thanks for the update, OriOri.

I doubt very much if ANet ever attempts to balance the post-patch market. They are looking at where the equilibrium prices will be in three, six, or even twelve months down the road.

So instead of comparing the current market prices, let’s compare the shopping list to see what ANet might be considering. I find that more easily done on gw2bltc than gw2e.

When you take a look at the totals, you’ll see that the two routes use drastically different mats. Both routes use 1.2k silk scraps (relatively cheap currently) and both use a lot of thick leather (1.6k for Zojja, 1.84k for ‘marks’). A few other mats are similar (17 ecto vs 12, more spools + thermocatalytic vs fewer of those but more gold).

However, the marked version uses less of the other leather types, including zero hardened leather and only 25% the T2-T4 leathers. (It also uses half or less of T2-4 cloth.) Instead, it uses Iron (180x), Plat (80x), and Mithril (400x).

tl;dr using marks to craft leather armor uses half the the leather of traditional crafting

So in the long run, I expect that the big winners are going to be those who play one mode a lot (so have too much currency) and don’t like to farm.

In other words, although I don’t like the change (as there is no longer an alternative to crafting), I think there’s a good chance that this change will ultimately affect the economy more than the red herring of “challenging group leather farms”.

In short, this alternative crafting method uses a lot less leather for leather armor, which ultimately could push down leather prices and push up other mats.

I wonder if they could for fractals at least since raids dont really have an asc armor gate if they could downscale the requirements for asc armor with eqch scale or only at t4 kind of like how the vendors in dry top work when you get the map to higher tiers.

Just ran across this thread. I was excited about the new system. Started collecting the pages. Crafted an item. Neat! Then on the second one, I was was buying silk of the TP. kitten , I need a lot of silk. Meanwhile, how easy would it be for me to just make it outright? Pretty simple.

The thing that caught my eye is that the fractal way costs more of the time gated mats. So, I hate grinding things, and I’m spending more time gated materials. How is this a good thing? It isn’t. It’s merely a way for them to take a ton of crap off the market, like silk.

And the real kick in the teeth is that not all the stats are available.

The fractal vendor has different tabs. One tab has all the core stats, the other tab only has the HoT stats. Probably to separate the people with HoT from those who don’t. This is kinda stupid and I expect at least some people to buy the wrong item and demand this changed.

Doesn’t bother me, because I won’t need to buy any ascended anyway.

Yup. Didn’t notice that. Bought the wrong one. Just went back to look at it. I was trying to figure out what the heck the two tabs were for. The items were exactly the same. Then I noticed the title at the top of the box. First time I’ve ever seen a list description. Played the game since launch. That is EASILY overlooked.

Still, the rest is valid.

They apparently can hide/show vendor tabs easily based on expac unlock status, but cannot do that to individual vendor items, and to stat selector.
They want Hot gear to be accessible to fractal players, but only those that bought HoT. Thus, two tabs.
(btw, i’m pretty sure that the HoT-stat tab has not only HoT but also core stats available. Can’t confirm that at the moment, though)
