Ascended gear is trash
pages.videotron.ca/madfang4/
It seems ascended did its job on you. It was implemented to satisfy gear grinders and those who felt it was too easy to obtain exotics. I personally don’t mind ascended, however, a lot of players didn’t like ascended when it was introduce several months ago.
So that’s it? You’ve been had haha, better luck next time?
pages.videotron.ca/madfang4/
I will quote you, from an earlier post, ‘To me crafting ascended gear is endgame in itself…’.
At least, it served its purpose.
So that’s it? You’ve been had haha, better luck next time?
How exactly have you been had? The stats have been posted a long time. If you crafted them you can’t suddenly claim they where something else. For such a huge investment in time I would kind of want to know before I started (which is why I got to 500 crafting and did not make the items).
I thought i was getting more than a very expensive skin. Now i don’t have anything to do but reroll.
If only it was just the gold… I can get more gold. It’s the time i spent working on that gear. I’m about 900 empyreal fragments now, that’s quite a few dungeons. I hate GW2 dungeons…
Guess i won’t be doing them anymore. That and a number of things.
EDIT: the numbers are from the attack tooltip. Mouseover skill one and it has the average dmg the attack will do. Also there are some rare target dummies in mount maelstrom i used to confirm those numbers.

you get it fairly easy in eotm/wvw
you can also get it from open world treasure chests.

How would you feel to pay 30k$ for what you think would be a luxury car only to find out you get a used honda? The effort in itself should justify an adequate reward. Hell ANY reward. This thing is a pink exotic…
pages.videotron.ca/madfang4/
I think, to protest, i won’t be using my ascended weapon anymore. I’ll keep it in case it gets patched, same with my ongoing damasks and elonian leathers, but i’ll keep it at that.
pages.videotron.ca/madfang4/
Your argumentation is lacking: you first want to see the car before you buy it. The same goes with the gear you create as mentioned by a poster before.
Also, don’t forget that you can add an additional infusion for a minor boost. It’s not nothing as dual wielding nets 2 slots. Here are the infusions you can get:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Infusion
I went for the WvW infusions since they are super easy to get and if you don’t do fractals you get the ‘best’ +5 power or whatever you want.
‘would of been’ —> wrong
How would you feel to pay 30k$ for what you think would be a luxury car only to find out you get a used honda? The effort in itself should justify an adequate reward. Hell ANY reward. This thing is a pink exotic…
A more appropriate analogy would be paying $30,000 and getting a car that functions the same as the car that was purchased for $5,000.
Wait, that can already happen? No way!
Exotic: 328 dmg (924-981 weapon strength)
Ascended: 330 dmg (970-1030 weapon strength)Masterwork to rare is 2.1%. Rare to exotic is 15.4%. Exotic to ascended is 0.6%
The difference is higher if you play on level 80 .. then its around 5% because of the
higher weapon strenght. As soon as you are mentored down the weapons strength
seems to be the same as exotic and you only get the small bonus of the better stats.

Ascended gear was implemented to keep certain people playing the game. People have been saying on the forums for almost as long as I can remember that you can do everything in the game without worrying about a ascended gear.
In many (if not most) MMORPGs, you MUST HAVE the highest gear in order to clear content. That not true in Guild Wars 2 (with the exception of high level fractals). You can play the game quite comfortably in exotics.
Before you buy a car, you do research. You don’t just buy a car. Even the briefest research into ascended gear would have shown it’s not worth it.
But I still make ascended gear for my characters, because it’s something to do.
Just one thing i thought of: This isn’t about the crafting of an ascended equipment. It’s about the value of crafting said equipment to begin with. Doing so should be a possible way to spend endgame and this thread is about the rewards. Not about the damask prices.
pages.videotron.ca/madfang4/
You know, it’s funny, a year ago I heard how cripplingly awesome the stat bump was for Ascended and it meant everyone had to have it. Now I see this topic.
I’m going to do it. I told you all so.
The big value of Ascended, however, wasn’t really the stats, in my view – it was the ability to get Infusions and hit higher level Fractals through the Agony Resistance. There is no other way short of insane dodging skillz.

I’m pretty sure you don’t need Damask to craft a dagger….

Other than the auto-hit by Agony sections of fights, yes. I got to around 24 before getting my first AR (pre-fractured).
Even the +5 stats aren’t that big of a deal, even if you’re a min-maxing.

You actually spend huge amounts of money on things sight unseen and expect sympathy?
EDIT: Honda’s used to be high demand street racing cars, which people would spend a lot more than 30000 on. Not sure if they still are though.

inb4 someone charge here and whine that Legenedary weapons have the same stats as Ascended weapons.
OP got a lifeworthy problem.
From what I know based on previous calculations Full Ascended gear and Trinkets ends up to be Approximately 10% Boost to all around stats from Exotic to Ascended. Some have said it was 30% but I think the only way to get the 30% is to stat cap.
Also, Ascended gear IS needed to do high level fractals, so no its not trash.

i noticed a lot more unavoidable agony after fractured, so i would say agony resist is kind of necessary now.
It was implemented to satisfy gear grinders
If it was – and I doubt it- then it failed…

But it is a good demonstration of how subjective said “value” acutally is. What kind of value are you talking about? The (coin) value of the material that went into crafting? The value of coin you get for selling it once done (0 in the case of ascended since you can’t sell it)? The value of net power gain you get from equipping the item compared to the alternatives? The value of the comfortable knowledge that you have tickled every last bit of strength out of your equipment and there’s nothing better around? The value of feeling good over a difficult job (aquiring all the materials needed for crafting) completed? The value of time spent to get all resources needed for the equipment?
Personally, I’ve got full ascended armor, (infused) trinkets and mainhand weapons on my mesmer, because to me it’s worth it. I use her in high-level fractals, thus need the infusion slots for agony resistance. I’ve only crafted the euqipment once I had all the materials in place through normal play, so it didn’t “cost” me anything out of the ordinary to get it. I’ll probably try to craft a few other pieces for the skins, which is another “value” that appeals to me. If the equipment doesn’t give you what you’re looking for, why bother getting it?

Only in Jade Maw/Mai Trinn/Molten Twins which was the same pre-fractured.
@Rasimir, you can sell Ascended to NPC’s!

Armor and weapons, too? I had only noticed the sales price on rings before, but I have to admit I haven’t looked at the other stuff closely.
Some people should really do their math for armour and weapons properly before talking about some hilarious 0.6% and naming threads “Ascended gear is trash”. Even Wiki can tell you the difference.
Ascended gear only serves any purpose in Fractals, because of its AR Slot. And of course for those who want to compensate the lack of endgame content with farming a huge amount of items. Seems like you hurt yourself doing so though :-P

Ascended is about a 5 percent increase in stats in level 80 zones.

for what it is worth.
You dont have to have ascended armor or weapons to do high level fractals. ( I do them in Exotics All of My AR is on my trinkets. )
Many of my characters have ascended Gear, and it did not cost me anything other than time. And I dont “farm” . But that is probably why I Only have part of my gear. and not all of it. (shrug) meh

pretty sure they were talking about the weapon only, not sure what the number on that would be.
Alright so zerker builds tend to utilize a bunch of +%10 or +%5 damage boosts. They multiply.
In zerker’s case, you’ll be seeing a multiple of +%0.6 not JUST a +0.6% increase. It basically compounds out to be more than you think after it’s run through the other %s.
Its nothing to throw a person out of a party for, but it’s certainly something for a character you know you’re going to use a lot.
The difference between no ascended gear and ALL ascended gear is about 15% dmg if you are zerker. It is fairly significant. The math has been done on multiple sites and in multiple threads, i’m sure you can find them.
And people even forgets the agony slots …
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.
Yeah, it is.
GW2 was supposed to follow GW1 style gear progression. ANet made exception with Ascended gear, and updated Legendary gear to match the stat levels of ascended.
In my opinion, better just remove the excess stats and make Ascended and Legendary gear match Exotics once more.
In GW1, normal gear and “Elite gear” had no stats difference, they’re only cosmetic and prestige.
I rarely do PvP or Hard PvE, unless it’s organized.
Yeah, it is.

yeh, but GW1 had no option to transmute a skin. so it would be a total waste of money or time or both if you’d craft ascended only for the skin (especially the super ugly heavy helmet on female characters)

Wait, that can already happen? No way!
Actually a more appropriate analogy would be: hearing about a new $30,000 car that has been out for over a year, choosing not to do any research whatsoever on it or asking anyone who has one what they think, paying for it without taking a test drive or reading any of the brochures on it, plus disregarding any of the fine print in the contract, and then complaining that it doesn’t perform better than your $5000 car….
Due diligence, people, due diligence.
From the start Ascended gear was designed for upper level FoTM. That’s it. You have to have it in order to get the AR needed to do FoTM50. That’s it. Everyone has known for over a year that it had negligible stat increases (which didn’t stop a large chunk of forum dwellers to “quit” the game because of the “forced” gear grind to get Ascended since, you know, it is so much better than Exotic you pretty much can’t function in WvW or dungeons without it….)
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
You actually only need 2 Ascended armor/weapons (or 1 Ascended 2h handed weapon) to do Fractal 50s, although I highly doubt you’d have +15 Agony Infusions and Infused accessories.
To do 49, however, you can get by without the armor/weapons and +15 Agony Infusions (but you’ll need high numbers).
Ascended gear was designed to only net a 5% increase in stats relative to other armor-stat bonuses if one is fully outfitted with it (armor + weapons).
That 5% increase in stats does not count base stats/trait stats, etc., and looks further diminished by scaling.
Frankly, you get the most mileage per gold by making an ascended weapon versus a given piece of armor.
It’s a bonus. Take it or leave it. If I can squeeze out another hundred or two damage on a stab, it’s worth it.

Yeah, thanks for this – I was wondering about the OPs math.
Personally I decided to profit by selling the ascended mats I had sitting in my bank or farming the expensive stuff. I’ve only made one ascended weapon since it’s such a gold sink to just get the crafting to 500. However, I was doing jumping puzzles on my husband’s guardian one day – he’s fully decked out in ascended gear and the difference was quite noticeable…and that was just with auto attack. The stat increase in theory didn’t really impress me, but actual playing did. So…I’m thinking it’s not really that much of trash.
But…that was a few months ago. Still hasn’t motivated me to part with my gold.

I take it you’re young and can’t afford a luxury car? I can assure you, that a $75,000 BMW is nowhere close to 3x better than a $25k Accord. You get the BMW for the prestige and bragging rights (or snob appeal if you prefer), not for the slightly better driving characteristics.
I think you’ll find that GW2 (and GW1 for that matter) is designed to reward breadth of achievement more than depth of achievement. e.g. Upgrading all your gear from rare to exotic will yield a bigger improvement than upgrading a single item from masterwork to ascended, and in the time it takes to make the ascended item you can run around Orr and get the exotic gear “for free” with karma. This is one of Anet’s quirks – they want you to get out there and explore new things, not stick to doing the same thing over and over until you utterly dominate it.
If you’re one of those people who want the latter in a game, it would behoove you to try to find a different game which better suits your needs. Not try to change this one. Nearly every other MMO out there is tailored for gear grinders and min-maxers like you. Please leave GW2 alone for us explorer types.

Like i wrote before .. its different if you play on level 80 or below.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
Ascended gear is something extra to do for a little bit of extra power. It’s designed to be slow and unrewarding. On purpose. It’s something you do for he sake of it.
Still, I could use an ascended locker from which I can get copies of any ascended item I’ve ever acquired without extra cost. Got the ascended Soldier staff? All character can get the ascended soldier staff.
We already can trade them in the bank between characters, so it’ll be mostly for QoL so I don’t have to go to the bank and trade entire sets between characters all the time, allowing people to go for other stat combinations (Collect ALL ascended stats sets!) instead getting the same for two characters, and it may also get people to spend a few more transmutation charges.
(edited by MithranArkanere.8957)
I like it. I got all the set types, some x2. Running fractals 50 with 90+ agony resist, for better drops. Easy.
And they are account bound so cheerz to that.
