Ascended items: offensive or defensive slot?

Hey there.

I really can’t choose which ascended accessory should I buy for my illusions mesmer. I’ll explain you why:

mine is a phantasm berserker build, power, precision and critical damage are, of course, my priorities.
I looked at infusion slots, offensive and defensive ones, and I realized that, in my opinion, I will never notice those +4 power, precision, vitality or toughness attributes when in those I’ll reach 2000-3000 points.
In the other hand, condition damage and healing power would be more useful since they are statistically 1/100 – 1/50 of main attributes.
Why should I care having 2000 + 4 powers when I can have 300 + 4 healing power? In the first case the increase is 0,2%, while in the second case it would be 1,3%.

Just tell me if I’m mad or somtehing, but I really cannot understand.

Get both.

If you don’t have enough currency for both, you’re not min/maxing anyway, so just get either one.

Apart from advices about my personal equipment, I’d like to know if +4 in power, precision, vitality and toughness worth an ascended slot.

It just depends of your build. If you are berserker, of course you’ll have tons of power, perc, crit dmg. And the infusion will only give +-0.1% or so power.

But it’s the same for condition build.

You can’t have 2 of the same anyway afaik, so one of each? If you want 2 Berzerker earrings, you will need to get 1 offensive and 1 defensive anyway

Oh, this is a light in my mind. Ascended items are unique and I can’t have two with the same name?

P.s: I just checked, you’re right. Involontarly you helped me a lot, now I know that anyway I’ll have to buy both slots accessories

Nope. If you’re doing fractals at all a Simple Versatile Infusion for Agony Resistance is way, way more important than the +4 stats. Hell, it’s more important than the stat boost from exotic to ascended itself.

If you’re not doing fractals at all get a utility infusion on your amulet and save your resources by ignoring the rest.

Perhaps the only good thing to come from the Ascended Magic Find soul bound snafu is that I was forced to duplicate existing stats and learned you can get two items with identical stats and both have offensive slots or both have defensive, as it is the Name of the Ascended item, and not the specific stats and slot, that make it Unique. So I now have two Offensive slot zerker rings, etc. Still pretty meaningless for ordinary infusions, but I have +5% damage vs. lords etc. in WvW all told.

I guess this is a bit of a tangent, but the “infusions” for ascended gear have to be the biggest drain of resources for the least benefit in the entire game.

If you buy everything they cost like 40 gold to make….for a meaningless buff….unless you are doing Fractals.

I’m bummed that Exotic stuff I can put things like +20’s and +14’s, while with an ascended item I can only put a single +4.

Its because ascended items have equivalent bonuses of gemstone upgrades already included in the item itself, with no upgrade nessicary. The infusion slot is mostly just there for AR, with the minor stat boosts being a very small extra.

Of course, having the bonuses built-in means you can’t mix and match gem upgrades and equipment types like you can with exotics, but allowing you to upgrade ascended items would make them MUCH better then exotics (if they retained their pre-built bonuses), where right now ascended is only a small improvement, which is intended. Either that, or they take away the built-in bonus and allow upgrades, but adding an upgrade would mean no infusion and that’d mean no AR, so it would create a gap between people who run fractals and need AR and people who don’t. People who don’t run Fractals and can ignore AR would have more stats, because they’d have upgrade gems instead of infusions.
