Assist the Ash Legion Heart
Is this the one in diessa plateau? If so I agree, had to wait for the event to spawn to finish map competion, quite annoying.

yes it is.
Agreed. The Flame Legion turrets and supply carts should remain even after the FL are kicked out, so that players can just run around and destroy those for credit.
Necro! This is a real pain in the kitten. Just want to do map completion and having to wait quite a long time for the events to reset.
Also, players keep completing the events that would allow for the flame legion to respawn, so you have to wait an incredibly long time to do just one renown heart!
Please add more things to do even when the portal is open, so future players don’t have to pull their hair out like myself!
4 months since this post it haven’t been fixed yet.
Anet can you fix it? I’m so bored of waiting to get this kitten heart.
I am assuming this is still a problem? I keep coming back and nothing is here.
I have to necro this thread, the OP is right, doing Map Completion for the Third time and now waiting for 30mins to just START doing the renown heart.. Still didn’t start btw.. It’s the last thing I need for this map ._.
I just did this one again over the weekend. I submitted a bug report about it. While waiting for the event to recur so I could get credit for killing things, I scraped the map edges. There are apparently a handful of invisible ambushes that can pop that give you a Flame Legion member to kill. It’s a horribly slow and unpredictable way to advance the heart progress, but it does work.
It’s not broken. While it is incredibly quick with the event chain active, flame legion do spawn periodically which you can kill for credit.

It is broken, the respawn timers on those flame legion you mention is incredibly slow, no fire turrets or anything to make the event finish-able in a reasonable amount of time, i.e. if you relied on those respawns it would take half an hour to an hour, maybe more.

While the respawn of the flame legion is about 2 min, the defend event pops up every 9.5 min and gets progressively more difficult each time. Every time that I have gone to time the things here, I’ve actual had to do the event chain to open the portal. I really do not see an issue as the defend event provides more than enough to complete the heart. The enemy count should also scale up with the number of people there. I was just here with 7 people defending the upper level and we had waves of 6 charr about 20 sec apart.
Necroing. First time playing Charr. This heart is dumb. Reasons all stated already. Please fix.
I’ll add my voice to this. I recall this being a pain in the tail on two of my three world completions, and probably the only reason i don’t remember it annoying me on the third is that that was about 3 years ago and my memory just isn’t that good.
+1 to this, I just started playing, and I love finishing a whole map before i move on, I do this in every game i play, Its a pain sitting here not being able to finish this map because of this portal opened.. We finished the event, but people just keep defending the HQ making it haaaaaaaaaard and looooooooooong to finish this thing…
Then people wonder why I skip trying to 100.0000 complete a map as a goal unto itself. Or especially world completion.
The defend event pops up frequently and has enemies to kill.
It’s a poorly designed renown heart. I needs to be adjusted.
I always wished that you could go into the mini dungeon and work on the heart there. Sadly the heart range does not extend into the mini-dungeon.
Argh, so I’m back here again. You don’t punish event completion by making a heart near-impossible to do. As of writing the event has gone by twice and I’m still not even 50% into the heart.
Strange. I’ve done that heart 8 times (at least) and never had problems. Maybe it’s bugged when you’re doing it.
ANet may give it to you.
I recently did world completion on 3 characters. I never had an issue. One time the assault event was just starting. The other two I got it completed by doing the defend event which starts every 8-9 min. I can’t remember exactly but it’s around that interval. I completed it in 1-2 defense events.
This heart quest was terrible when I was testing the core game during a Beta weekend, it remained terrible when I was leveling after launch, and it was still terrible when I came back to the game this month after two years absence and did it with my new Elementalist. I truly can’t believe it hasn’t been fixed yet.
If you “haven’t had a problem with it”, that’s very fortunate for you; that does not at all help the other 95% of players who wander clueless and frustrated with no objectives in sight, then give up in disgust and rant about it in /map chat.

Idk. 8 or 9 times I’ve done it. If it’s such a problem to so many people (95% you say) why haven’t I encountered it? And why aren’t there more posts? If it was halting 95% of the people from doing map completion or significantly causing problems with it you’d think there would be more than the occasional thread.
I won’t argue that it may not be bugged and giving some people problems but I haven’t seen enough posts to say it’s a majority of people.
ANet may give it to you.

I agree, it is a pain in the kitten.
I’ve also 100%-ed Diessa maybe 8 or 9 times. Most times I discover the task I will waypoint away and check on it later and complete it when the event is active.
If I have everything else completed I will AFK at Indendio Templum and wait for the event to spawn, or just camp that one flame legion dude near the edge of the map.
IMO, it’s not the worst task in-game (there are others with very limited ways to complete or are ridiculously slow), but it is an inconvenience. IMO the worst ones are the stealth “flag capture” one in Blazeridge Steppes and the dredge suit one in Frostgorge Sound..
Is it just me or this zone is designed to make you extra miserable?
I was trying to grab a hero point here, and it’s at a jumping puzzle! It wasn’t that hard but putting a vista and a hero point behind all of this (and enemies constantly attacking you) in a low level zone isn’t cool, especially on how the vista is designed so you might miss the jump and have to do it all over again. I couldn’t imagine doing this in my older days.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.

There are three jumping puzzles in diessa, but only one actually has a reward chest. the other ones either have a vista & hero point or just a rich node (silver no less, bleh)
Now i like JPs and do them for their own sake whenever i’m nearby but i don’t quite see the virtue in forcing you to do them for map completion (another thing i do for fun, regardless of rewards)

A speed buff usually prevents any issues for that JP.

yes it is.
I agree, if you miss it, it can be a pain.

Breach Wall Blitz (the one you speak of) and Vizier’s Tower are the only JPs with a VP and HP at the end that I can recall off the top of my head.
As to the heart in question, something needs to be done so it can be completed without sitting and waiting for 10 minutes. As it is, I just go back to the character select screen and do something else hoping that I’ll be in a different instance of the map when I come back.
Lady Alexis Hawk – Main – Necromancer
Ravion Hawk – Warrior
There are still one or two mobs that spawn (might be popups) so you can run around the place in a hopeful manner and maybe get it done that way. There are usually others doing the same though.
Adding something to help get it done when the place is under ally control would be very useful though.
I see no harm in adding a few flame legion structures that could be destroyed.
Whether one has been fortunate enough to find one of the events going on or not, this is a heart that — unlike many others — only provides one way to get credit. Other hearts have been updated since launch, but not this one afaik.

There’s more for map completion? Well, time to get to work >.>

There’s also Tribulation Rift Scaffolding and that one was pretty miserable. Vizier’s Tower at least has the excuse of being in a late zone and thus it’s more reasonable to expect it to be harder; plus it’s not that hard— weirdly enough there’s a vista to the east that I found harder to get despite not being labeled a JP. =p
Of course, my memories are colored because I did them as a beginner 3 years ago and had trouble merely moving around. I also would have not disabled double tap to dodge which had cost me too many things then I care to admit before turning it off for good.

Seems the lack of any Anet comment shows they’re perfectly happy to kitten off their players at times.
Guys…please fix this already.

If you’ve never suffered on this heart, you’re lucky. The heart design is unequivocally broken, and I make no apology for bumping this thread yet again.
I’ve fully completed Diessa Plateau on 12 characters, and partially on more, so I can say with certainty that I’ve done the heart a minimum of a dozen times. And, yes, it can go fine. BUT. Many times it doesn’t (especially of late, in my own perception at least). The problem is that there are days, and times of day (the weekend seems particularly bad), when Incendio Templum is simply continuously under Night warband control, and enough players are hovering around (hoping to complete the heart, presumably) that the defence events are very short and hard to benefit greatly from (and it certainly doesn’t help that one of them is merely to take down a couple of effigies). At such times it can still take half an hour or longer to complete the heart, during which time you’re frankly doing little more than waiting and hoovering up the occasional pop-up. It’s soul-destroying, and not remotely the best way to reward players for spending their time in game.
