I make it my business to ‘rescue’ and assist downed players and in some instances they teleport out because they do not realize that somebody is on the way. I believe it would be a good idea to add to the game by allowing players to click on the downed player icon notification (downed/dead) to open a channel which automatically sends a “<user name> is on their way to assist or rescue you!” message. This way the intercepting player will not have to stop to write a message (even when auto-running) and the downed player knows that somebody cares sufficiently to hold their ground and save themselves a teleport fee.

The secondary advantage of this is that the downed player knows that help is on the way and that allies will be joining them to continue the battle.

I like it!

I also would like to see a small amount of karma granted for rezzing/assisting players and NPCS. Although I see it getting abused for the karma, defense events always failing just so people can rez the NPCs, players purposely getting killed over and over (fall damage doesn’t hurt armor, so they find a spot and leap like lemmings) just to let people rez them for karma. But exp for rezzing people just seems a bit off, and granting karma instead makes sense, as karma is gained through helping people, events, hearts, etc. Just an idea….

People would probably use it to troll. They would send the message they are on the way then never go there to rez the downed player. The downed player would be sitting there waiting until they get the clue no one is showing up.

If they look on the map screen it says A Kind Soul is Healing you… I have been ready to port out and have seen it so have stayed where I was…. All it takes is time to read and be aware….

Life is just a Big Role Playing Adventure…

I think the OP means before the Kind Soul arrives, how does the defeated player know to wait?

This.

And as regards trolling, lots of things can potentially be exploited, but I think this would do more good than harm.

I think this is a great suggestion. Most of the time when I am on my way to revive someone they port away without knowing that I was on the way.
This is starting to make me hesitant to go over to help defeated players that are far away.

This feature can be exploited, but I think exploitation can be reduced if the downed player is shown the location of player helping on the map for a few seconds after receiving the message.

Exactly, this is what I meant. In regards to trolling – we’re never going to prevent that, but if somebody put a message on my screen “Arcos Shiningpaw is coming to assist you!” I would save myself the teleport fee and frankly would welcome the assistance. It would apply only to actual users, not NPC’s.

And regarding the timing, I think we can assume that if they are not there in sixty seconds, they’re never coming and since the person’s name is displayed – well, we would identify ‘spoofers’ pretty quickly, wouldn’t we? In high risk zones a rescue may never come because the other player has themselves come to grief, or logged out but such things happen. It’s all a matter of percentage, weights and measures and this would be reflected on the downed parties screen with messages like “Arcos Shiningpaw has been downed” or has logged out or a message to reflect the situation. If a user for example leaves the region, it’s a fair bet they’re not coming and a message to that effect is generated informing the wounded/downed party.

Far too often (when I was a noob) I simply lay there waiting for a rescue which would never come and had to spend my money teleporting to the nearest WP. I appreciate that this will be seen by some as a means to save money but that’s part of it (but I hope there is a nobler sentiment at work). In helping a player (especially the higher level ones whose teleport fees are rather high relative to the distance – in some instances it costs 2s just to travel ten feet!) you are in fact benefiting both them and you for there may well be a enemy nearby which you can enter into combat with, or who you can defeat to assist the downed player. Either way, its a win-win situation. Opinions please and thank you for replying to the original post.

Yes, please. The frustration of helping out thieves, mesmers and especially elementalists…

That would probably fix the problem, at least partially.

We are in this together, downed players aren’t helping or winning the event by staying down. The more we are the better and faster will the champ go down. So heal a total noob, a bully, a tank, a commander or even an Anet employee all these types of players fall down eventually and they all deserve a healing now and then. Except dead people pleas waypoint you’re really not helping, but yes occasionally I heal you as well even though it takes way longer, but sometimes I don’t simply waypoint your sorry Skritt’s butt.

This exact thing has been suggested several times before, mostly to good player response. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen ANet say anything about it.

Regarding trolling – someone saying they’re on the way to help, and not coming – if the downed player was able to have his MINI-MAP up, and see a LOCATION DOT for the would-be rescuer, it would help to tell if the intent to save is genuine or not.

EDIT: The downed player should likewise be able to send a one-click reply “Thanks! I’ll wait!” or “I’ll be fine… thank you anyway”.

It just occurred to me that if this was implemented and multiple ‘Noble Souls’ (NS) offered to resurrect the downed/dead user and were inbound on their location; we could have a cut-off where if more than a given number of potential resurrector’s offer to help the downed/dead user, a message is displayed on the NS screen that other users are inbound and that their diligence is appreciated nevertheless. This would act to cancel their offer to assist, not that they are any obligation (other than moral) to assist anyway. This would act to save potential resurrector’s from running halfway across a region or teleporting to the nearest free WP to assist.

I will admit. Ive 95% rezzed quite a few people then /sleep on their corpse.

I dont see the harm and but I dont really see the “need”

Then ofcourse how long to wait? Mobs in the way? how far away?

I also just realised this in a way encourages not playing.
