Asura Engineer - A Loser's Jumping Puzzle Hero
I’ve always been bothered by this games hard line attitude toward using gimmick skills to cheat the terrain. I’m surprised that this skill works this way because in my experience I haven’t been able to jump gaps with either the ranger or the guardian leap skill. I don’t see why these kinds of skills even exist if they can’t be used in fun ways like this. And if the answer is that they don’t want them to be used to get to places that you aren’t supposed to, I direct your attention to the hundreds of invisible walls that infest this “fully explorable” world. Besides, the mesmer portal and necro worm pet can be used to blink through and across ANYthing so I’m really confused about the limitation on most other movement skills.
necro worm pet can be used to blink through and across ANYthing
Hahahahahah, no. Our worm pet has a blink that has a very limited range, doesn’t work across gaps, doesn’t work across slight changes in altitude, and is supposed to AoE poison but actually does nothing.
Yeah, Mesmer portals are also quite nice for jumping puzzles. You basically get an unlimited amount of chances to make a jump.
Drop the exit where you stand. Try the jump. If you fail, drop the entry and repeat.
Edit: btw, the thief’s short bow leap/teleport doesn’t work where “jump shot” does. I tested this in “Troll’s End” (LA)

Nice idea that, but the legendary I want after world completion would hardly be noticeable on such a small frame. Now if world completion was account wide then I would be rolling up an Azura engineer after typing this!

Well that’s disappointing. I’m leveling a necro and I found the worm pet to be kind of useless in lower level pve but I tested it and was able to blink from outside a building back into it. Although, I did note the limited range I was still optimistic about its capabilities. This just reinforces my statement though. WHY? Why, why can’t it go across gaps?
world completion gets you account bound gifts. you dont need world complete on a toon to get a legendary

My charr Guardian doesn’t have any problem crossing 2 platforms in one go or any wide space with the greatsword leap…
The problem are altitude changes as she will jump straight forward and then suddenly drop to the ground, turning by almost 90 degrees mid-air. kind of a let-down
The mob has spoken and the turrets shall be burnt at the stake.

QFT. Big problem I’ve had with this game from the outset – almost any way of using skills creatively has been nixed. No knocking enemies off cliff edges, no shortcuts up mountainsides, no leaping massive gaps etc etc.
The fun police must have got in during beta testing.
Just 4 words: Engineer Rifle Jump Shot

If this is true, I will jump (excuse the pun) for joy. I’m not doubting you, but can you confirm this?

Exactly, mesmer and engineer skills work. So why are all the others kittened? I could understand if it was a blanket ban.
EDIT: ROFL, it censored g i m p e d
You can do this with any class/race, if you don’t mind spending money.
The inquest potion makes you an asura. Very helpful for large races and jumping puzzles.
There’s also a consumable rifle you can buy from a karma vendor after an event in malachcor’s leap. Don’t remember the info exactly, but I do remember that the event chain involves chickens. This bundle has the jump shot skill.
Now, I don’t think you can use both at the same time, but if you’re not in the mood to roll another class for easy mode jumping puzzles, the option is there for you at the cost of coins.
I think the rifle is overkill in most cases though. The asura are basically like pressing tbe jumping puzzle easy button. Adding the rifle shot as well is basically like saying “no, I don’t deserve this achievement.”
I’m saying this as a guy currently leveling an Asuran Engineer specifically for world exploration

Gifts of exploration (given at 100% map completion) are account bound.

And yet, I can’t even cross a tiny gap with “Infiltrator Arrow.” Infiltrator Arrow doesn’t let me infiltrate anything… Go figure.

Thank you x 1000, off to go level an engineer!!
As a charr some puzzles can be rather annoying as my jump feels awkward compared to others. (I have to jump on all fours and I have to figure out where my “feet” are going to land but it’s not actually where my feet are… because my feet according to the game are at the center of my torso when I jump on all fours.) It’s very strange… but manageable. I’ve adapted.
Yep, there should be a special achievement for doing all jumping puzzles on a Charr.
I found them to be by far the most difficult race when it comes to jumping.
Norn can be tough, too. Because of the size and the funny camera, but at least we know where our feet are.
I personally find Asura and Sylvari the easiest in this regard.
