I have not played WoW or even GW1. Actually, the only MMO I’ve ever played is Mabinogi.

I stopped playing it a few years ago and a little before the release of GW2, I realized I need something to occupy me what with my current & chronic situation in my life. So I turned to GW2.

I have to say, I really enjoy it. This may be because I am not a seasoned MMO player, but I am having a lot of fun. I do notice having to grind and whatnot and the low level equips (mainly armor) isn’t pleasing to the eye right now, but I can truly say that I am having fun. The market is kind of empty and whatnot and I’d like an excuse to spend some money to “get pretty” but I understand it’s only been out for 2 weeks.

I think the one major draw back (and it isn’t ANet’s fault) is nobody talks back! Not to me, anyway. I don’t know if they started the game with friends so they feel comfortable talking to them or what, but I have seriously tried to initiate conversation only to have someone run off.

Anyway, I hope you all at least try to enjoy yourselves. I know I am.

It’s ok Sako I too try to talk to people and only 1/3 of most I encounter actually carry on a conversation with me and sometimes we even trot off together annihilating the countryside

I really think that because so many people rushed in the game so quickly, people haven’t yet started to settle down and are still in the “omg this game is finally out!” phase. People are zooming through content rather than taking their time.

Well some people do want to be more slow-paced and social, but I think a grand mix of completion anxiety and fast warps makes people asocial and only team up because people happen to be around them during X event.

I have talked to a few people, usually in map chat, without direct contact, and much more often in areas with big meta events going on.

I do believe that once people have settled in the game, got tired of playing every free hours of their life on it, they will start to open up and talk.

I’ll be honest, I’m a bit of an introvert, I play games with friends and have done so with the same people for the last 13 years. If I actually wanted to talk to you, you’re likely in my guild already. I’ve also found that my opinions and “sense of humour” doesn’t always translate well and often gets me in trouble :P

It’s all good. I am also an introvert. I guess it’s more getting a response to something like answering a question (I shamefully had no idea how to leave my area and get to Shiverpeak via an Asura gate.) than something like a full on conversation. haha

I think a lot of people are like that, you can’t please everyone. But most people know that when you meet new people you just have to be more tactful until you know them better. The same goes for an MMO. Don’t let it all out when you see someone because you don’t know what may offend them. That doesn’t mean you won’t get along and be friends.

Somehow I think shouting “BARE IS 4 FITE” before going bear will garnish more interest.

I like it, people automatically and seamlessly assist other players without so much as a word to one another. It’s a weird form of socialism without all the awkward banter that usually happens after another player helps you kill something. “OMG, you play this MMO? I play it too! I guess there’s also the unique perspective for me, I used to run a rather large LAN party in North America and after a decade of interacting with the unwashed masses of “typical gamer land,” I just really don’t want to talk to them anymore. I much prefer to be left alone, I’ll help you on Veterans and Champions and appreciate the same but I really don’t care that you like stuff.

I know that maybe sounds mean….but it’s more ambivalence than malice.

Because even by the end of day 1 out of 3, I wanted to cut my nose off. It’s everything horrible and as the coordinator of the event I had to deal with probably all of them at least once. I’d go outside for a smoke and come back in and it was like being hit in the face by a pillowcase full of salty wet underwear.

I’ve been guilty of this during my whole time leveling. Most of my interactions with other players was mowing down mobs together.

But then I met her, as we each plunged a greatsword into opposite sides of the centaur our eyes met amidst the blood spray. Hypnotized by the sight of each other we slowly drove our blades deeper into the beast until we met face to face and met with a passionate kiss. It was love at first kill with the centaurs death rattle serenading our union.

Yeah see, no.

My Mesmer is admittedly a human female, why? Because I feel that all the human males walk like they have scoliosis. I had some charr comment after we killed a skill point challenge that I was “sexy” and referred to me as “baby.” I replied with “I have a kitten” and walked away. Interaction is not wanted.

I think the way the DEs and the hearts work while encourages (some) cooperation, at the same time discourages actual socializing in the game. You don’t need to team up or talk to people, since there’s enough of them doing the “quest” anyway.

Wow Tradewind reading your posts, you sound like a real downer. Go outside and have some fun, life is a wonderful thing. I was gonna try to say something about socializing in MMO’s but there’s no point. If you have such a negative outlook and don’t give anyone a chance, then everyone will disappoint you. But if you change your views, you can actually meet a lot of nice people.

HAHA

Since my last response was deleted and I was infracted I will add something meaningful.

I generally don’t talk to too many people in games. I got tired of helping someone kill THE BAD GUY only to have them message me for weeks asking how I’m doing, how my day was, what kind of music I listen to, am I on facebook, etc.

Let’s just kill things together and be non-chatting friends.

No it does translate. I have seen people like you so I understand but I don’t think your helping yourself at all. It’s you that doesn’t understand other people. Yea the guy was telling you to lighten up. :P We get that you’re trying to be funny, but it’s not funny. It’s just too negative for most people. People like friendly, fun human beings. Like I said, I understand what you’re trying to convey, I and many others just don’t like it and we’re telling you that you’ll have more friends if you lighten up.
