How long do I have to play before I can attach items to mail?

“Attaching items and coins to in-game mail is restricted for new accounts. As you continue to play, this restriction will be lifted.”

It’s apparently not some hard and fast number but how much progress your account has made by playing. Maybe it’s some sort of combination of time played and achievement points gained.

It is actually a necessary limitation to prevent hackers and gold sellers from transferring goods to other accounts. If you play legitimately, the warnings will vanish for the mail sent to you in time, as will your friend’s as he advances in the game. I am unsure of how exactly this works, but I suppose it is a matter of how much progress in the game your characters have achieved, and not necessarily a period of time to pass after account creation.

Thank you! I was just starting to formulate a response, but you’ve said it very accurately.

You may thank the gold sellers, they’re the reason new accounts have these restrictions.

From the same thread:
Gaile Gray
ArenaNet Forum Communications Team Lead
“Please consider the reasoning behind the restrictions: RMTs are a plague in any game. Having no restrictions means they make accounts and deliver gold immediately. This has a significant impact on all of us players, in that we’re subjected to more RMT advertising, more invasive e-mails offering to sell us gold, and we feel an impact on the game economy from the quick-and-easy means of gold distribution.

While we never want to inconvenience a genuine player, and are sorry if this has an impact that you do not desire, the counterbalance is that it has a positive for the game as a whole, and therefore for every player within the game.
I hope this explanation makes you better understand (and hopefully agree with) the new-account trade limits."

You said you are on your second day and a friend can send mail at 5 days. In the life of an account, 3 more days isn’t a long time.

To add to this topic, I am also knew to the game. I was just recently recommended this from a high school friend who’s currently playing. I bought gems and tried to exchange some for gold just to make the earlier levels a little easier with gold and found myself having permission denied as well. Its basically the same thing for the mailing part. I searched around online for a while and came up on a specific forum that stated “We need to play a total of 3 days (72 hours) since the account has been made before we’re able to send items through mail/exchange gems for gold.” I’m not sure if its vice versa as in receiving mail with item’s. I found that forum yesterday so I don’t currently have it but that’s what either a veteran player or admin said in response to someone’s ticket. If I find the forum again I’ll re-post it here

Also, I do know this post is a little dated, but I still posted in case someone else has similar questions like I did. &As stated by Astral Projections, it is a necessity to have in regards to gold sellers online.

So do you need to have 72 hours of played time? Or Is it just 72 hours after you make your character? I don’t play a lot at one time so if it is total played time then it’s gonna be a lot longer then 3 days.

As noted by Gaile above, it is not a matter of time passed, but of activity on an account.

…it is a matter of how much progress in the game your characters have achieved, and not necessarily a period of time to pass after account creation’.

Good luck.

The official wiki description of mail (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mail) says nothing about elapsed time of hours or days, or what kind of account activity is needed, and how much. It does say you need to be level six.

I and my partner are both past level six, have six days in the game (3-6 hrs/day), and don’t have email. We can’t exchange possession in-game, and we can’t do it via mail. I get stuff her ranger can use, but I can’t give it do her. She gets stuff my revenant can use, but has no way to give it to me. What the heck???

It would be nice to know exactly how the system is supposed to work, not speculation, and not information that’s out of date.

As was posted in the other thread, the Wiki is maintained by players, and not by ArenaNet. We can only add the information we have discovered through play, or other sources.

If the Devs themselves don’t wish to impart the particular timelines for restrictions, there is little we Wiki editors can do.

If you can contribute more up-to-date information, feel free to edit the page in the Wiki.

Good luck.
