August 11 Patch - New Item Booster concern
I think it can be helpful. I might purposely not send my mats to the bank when in need of selling off trophies, or needing tools/salvaging kits, etc. Sounds promising to me. =)

Or, you know… Just take a stacking item like fire ele powder and split it to almost every slot when in need of a salesman. Simply kill a mob, hope for 1 trash drop and ta-da, salesman.
……… Cheating the system I guess but oh well …..
I’m going to guess that that it’s just clumsy wording, which ANet has a long history of, and the merchant will appear anytime your inventory is full (minus the cooldown). It makes no sense for it to be mats only since those can be sent directly to your bank and you don’t need a merchant spawned for them.
ANet may give it to you.

Oh. I thought the Golem only appeared after gathering. Thanks for the heads-up.
Hi all,
anyone else find it kinda wierd that the new Item Booster spawns a merchant when our inventory gets full while gathering ?
I mean if that happens you surely dont sell gathered stuff to the npc
I think it would be much more appropiate to spawn a merchant while gathering and you just ran out of gathering tools
“A new Item Booster is now available that grants crafting, gathering, and magic find benefits from a single source and summons a merchant if the player’s inventory is full after gathering resources.”

What do you think ?
I think the logic is that you sell all your junk items to the merchant thus freeing up inventory space for your newly acquired gathered resources – makes perfect sense to me.

Agreed. I’m not seeing a problem here.
“A new Item Booster is now available that grants crafting, gathering, and magic find benefits from a single source and summons a merchant if the player’s inventory is full after gathering resources.”
“A resource is a source or supply from which benefit is produced. Typically resources are materials, energy, services, staff, knowledge, or other assets that are transformed to produce benefit and in the process may be consumed or made unavailable. Benefits of resource utilization may include increased wealth, meeting needs or wants, proper functioning of a system, or enhanced well being.”
With this definition in mind, armor and weapons are also resources as they provide gear for the player to equip directly and mats when salvaged and gold when sold, either directly or after salvaging. They also provide luck when salvaged which is another indirect source of wealth. So, the term resource here does not need to only apply to mats harvested with a tool and the merchant can spawn whenever the inventory is full of either gear or mats.
ANet may give it to you.

I don’t know…wouldn’t they have written obtained rather than gathering, then. Though, it did strike me as odd if the Golem only appeared if your inventory was full due to a mat only.
I suppose someone who has experienced having the Golem appear will post, and clear this up. Soon. =)

Well it could, but gather has the meaning of collecting items from separate places to put in one spot, in this case your inventory. It’s not necessarily specific for harvesting.
Gather: 1. to bring together into one group, collection, or place: to gather firewood; to gather the troops. 2. to bring together or assemble from various places, sources
Obtain just mean to get, without the connotations that it is multiple items going to one spot.
No doubt they could have used either word equally well, but obtain is a bit more formal than gather in normal speech.
ANet may give it to you.
