From what I understand in the patch notes, the Auric Basin Multi Map has gone the way of Old Yeller……..

It’s understandable that this has been removed, as it was a loophole in the event that allowed players to receive more rewards than was earned. Additionally, players not accustomed to mutimapping were at a huge disadvantage in crafting/ the economy (if salvaged items were sold instead of used). This being said, it was the only way to reliably obtain globs of ectoplasm.

Under the old system, you could probably get 30-40 ecto/ 30 minute session with anchors (8 Maps). Too much, yes, but is there anyone else that has trouble getting those anywhere else. Even with a monotonous schedule of world bosses and fractal dailies, or silver waste trains with 3 hours/ day you might make 10-14 ecto in that time. That means if you are spending any time outside of your main character leveling another profession or learning other builds it becomes a burden.

Does anyone else agree/ disagree, or are there better ways of finding rare equipment to salvage? I’m not trying to be a spoiled gamer, but the drop rate of rares in this game needs to go up in harder content. It is a relentless grind to find these items in the game, and people that have taken advantage of the system will sell Ectoplasm for a huge markup now that the MM is gone.

Salvage more for more luck, the higher your magic find the more rares you’ll get.

They were always supposed to be… rare. Hopefully you saved some.

Really though an AB meta now, including the pre events is still likely to yield 10-12 rares if you loot the smaller chests. Teq drops 3-4 rares, silverwastes 4 (breach + vinewrath), LW3 maps have a non-trivial amount of rares.

There’s plenty of opportunity to get them, it’s just in a less hardcore grindy way and in a more spaced out farmy way.

I think the biggest problems with ABML was the announcement that it was going to be nerfed. It was going along at an even pace until the announcement then it slowly started getting frenzied more and more along with toxic behaviors until the actual nerf. People only rushed in to do it when they found out about the pending nerf.

I still say the better way would have been to find ways to slow the player’s gathering of chests down rather than what they did. If they had put in obstacles to slow the players down it would have resulted in less chests gathered. The grands needed to move around like the rest so players couldn’t map jump at the grands.

All three chest sizes used a single key to open which I think is crazy. Small one should have used a single key, great should use 2 keys and grands should use 3 keys. That would have evened out the gathering of chests. Most experienced players just ignored the small and great chests because it was more cost effective to get the grands only.

I care to disagree.
The difference between a 0 and 300% luck is close neglible, salvaging ectos for the purpose of maxing luck, you would to play like 300 years before you break even with how many ectos you’d end up with

I didn’t say salvage ectos. I said salvage more. A lot of people sell their greens and blues to npcs or on the tp instead of salvaging them because they give junk mats, I used to do that in fact and I’ve met a lot of other people who do that. Salvage more. And I get a lot more rares on my 239% account than I do on my alt account that has 43% luck so I definitely disagree. As for how to get more rares: save your labby keys in sw and go use them all in one go you’ll find you get so many rares you don’t know what to do with them.

Did you actually use up all the ectos you earned from ab for your own consumption or did you sell them?

Honestly, I only ran AB for crafting my gear. I needed the ecto for ascended backpacks, exotics with Ineffable Insignia, etc. The event was also a good way to get mats from all tiers for crafting ascended materials.

Yes, I sold some extra Ecto (In total probably 100 gold in 8 months), but used it all as I got it to buy low drop crafting materials for a set of ascended armor. Some of those materials are almost impossible to farm in the numbers required and have to be bought, Hardened Leather Section, for instance.

Your skepticism is appreciated, but I wasn’t one of the people making thousands of gold off of this.

Rares come at you fairly regularly in HoT. I made two stacks over the course of a week.
