I was just wondering why after so many years of supporting Guild Wars 2 there are still no dedicated Australian servers. I was in world vs world today and i was trying to fight, as PVP and WVW are my favorite aspects of any MMO.

I was lagging so bad that the delay caused my death without me even seeing why, it was just a flicker of actions. So i check my Ping and my MS was at around 430 to put this into perspective that is the amount of time for me to do and receive action. So its about 0.4 seconds of delay.

Now as i have a cable/fiber internet connection of 100 mega bit approx 10mb per second download rate. Its NOT acceptable, so i ask again why are there NO (dedicated) Australian servers.

What you worried about a player base? We have a listed 9 million gamer’s in this country, and what you cant advertise here? I want answers.

Thanks

So how did you come up with 0.43 seconds is equal to 7 seconds?

We are heroes. This is what we do!

It’s probably your ISP limiting certain kinds of traffic.
I live in New Zealand, have regular ADSL internet which is not incredibly fast, but never do I experience issues with connectivity speed… My ping to the Austin, TX, servers may not be amazing, but it is more than half of what yours is – which is to be expected given the distance.

For pratical purposes an Australian server/Oceanic server makes no sense whatsoever. It wouldn’t work with WvW matchups. There aren’t enough Oceanic players to merit enough servers for WvW to work. The only solution would be to place the Oceanic server against US servers – which leads to problems of gaming times since the Oceanic players would do well during their daytime, while during the US daytime they would do much much much better.

Yes Australia might have 9 million gamers, but a teeny teeny teeny tiny fraction of those are playing GW2. I don’t think GW2 even has anywhere near 9 million players, so the portion of those who are Australian is negligible.

So i was still going through the math as i posted it, i corrected it straight after and i got 0.4. Despite this it felt like 7 seconds and it was enough time to have several skills cast on me without me even seeing it.

Yes but they can advertise and increase the player base. Its really frustrating that literally NO mmo’s are supported in Australia. And i hear that they are converting this game to an E Sport so what, i just get shafted despite pumping Anet full of money.

And on top of that, i said AUSTRALIAN servers. After all your connection is fine right, why even post if you have no issues.

It’s not financially responsible to dedicate server costs for a small population.

Just sayin’…Guild Wars 2 hasn’t even been out 2 years, yet..so no one has really supported it for years.

My GL is in ZA, and sometimes has some horrid lag issues, but usually he can play satisfactorily (he plays PvP, even), and is connected to the NA data center. So, about 9-10,000 miles away. He would love a dedicated server, as well.

All we can do is hope Guild Wars 2 grows so big some day, that there are data centers all over the world. =)

Do you have the NBN, Vmad? I’m trying to work with it right now and its jerking me around. There might be something happening with the network.

Fire up the Hyperbowl ma, we’re going to town!

Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?
