Hi, I was wondering if setting your AOE LOOT key as a macro was ok?
I play a lot of wvw, and hate worrying about my loot when I’m trying to stay focused on the opponent.

I really don’t see what the point would be? Auto loot is s single key press. Why would you need a macro for a single keypress?
If you want to just reassign it to a different key, there is no problem with that.
The general rule of using any macro is 1 key press performs 1 action.

Eh, I just bound it to the 11 button on my naga mouse. I try to stay away from macros most of the time.

I don’t know if that can get flagged as botting, but I haven’t heard of anyone claiming it has.

Bind it to whatever you want, but if you’re getting more than one activation out of one button press you’re breaking the terms of service. Whether or not they’d actually enforce that for looting, idk.

It’s against the rules and bannable to macro like that. As Gaile has said before, one button press = one button press. Macro Button A performing the role of the A key is fine. But Macro Button A performing the role of A + B is against the rules, and bannable.

Did you even read the OP? He’s asking if it’s ok to set a macro to loop a button press.

@OP: If you set it up on a random timer every couple of seconds it’ll be indistinguishable from you just hitting the key every few seconds. You could even set it to toggle every time you pressed the key or something.

I tried to get them to allow us before. We finally got a response from Anet and they said no keybinds are allowed that let the player have multi-function advantage.

Our argument was that it’s not a combat advantage at all, merely a convenience, but they put their foot down and closed the thread. They want us to have carpel tunnel, they want us to spam loot every second.

I’m sick of it personally, over 4200 hours of gameplay, I am sick of hitting that stupid loot key. Auto loot needs to be auto. It’s a pointless act that adds nothing to the game for me.

There should be separate window with bag for loot where all drop would be automatically jump in (window with minimalize option).
You could choose what you want to take or destroy.
Can be even only 20 slot with possibilities to extend like bank tabs/personal slot bags.

And he provided a correct answer. 1 key = 1 action is the rule. If you loop a button press, you basically have 1 key = unlimited actions. So while botting the auto loot is very minor, it’s also very bannable.

I highly recommend the OP consider everything before using a macro in such a way. If you’re willing to take the risk of an account closure for the convenience of a button press, go for it. If you’re willing to take the risk of an Anet employee turning a blind eye if you get caught, then that’s your choice too.

i have all weapon skills on my g700 and on each key i have “macroed” auto loot+weapon skill. So basically when i swing my weapon i loot.

Did this on day one of the “aoe loot patch” and havent been banned yet.

I dont use different timers either and i think 50ms was enough for the autoloot to kick in.

if anet ban me for this i will change my statement to that i have physically connected multiple buttons with a mechanical device.

Just because you aren’t banned yet, doesn’t make it ok. Stuff like this is most likely low priority. That said, all it takes is getting caught once, and you lose your account. If you want to test this out, you can always self report, and see if a GM takes any action.

As i said, i have made a physical device that presses two buttons at once.

Seriously though, i think the discussion is healthy. Where should the line be drawn. Is it ok to use a mouse for all actions. Its an advantage, imo more so than macros, compared to have all skills on the keyboard.

Is it ok to physically connect two buttons. I have a razer keyboard and tbh in 5 minutes i could connect the keys with wire so when i press a key two keys are registered, thx to ghosting. It just takes some knowledge in electronics.

No macro but it does the exact same thing and equally good. It just took 5 minutes to set it up instead of 30 seconds.
