so what are you guys running fps wise? on average just playing through the game? i don’t have a high end PC, just an HP laptop. i lag horribly during boss fights..forget WvW, but i CAN play the game smoothly during events and just regular exploration.

I will usually see between 40-80 fps just wandering around and doing events. World bosses take me down to 12-ish. I do have a nice gaming computer and fast internet. My brother gets 120 fps almost all the time on a beautiful monitor the size of my dreams.

I can get 60fps on max settings in places with not many people on screen. When doing events and wvw I change to medium and low settings (which still look amazing) and get 30fps

maybe 40~50 fps when in a crowd(boss/event/something)

but also i did spend 1000 euros like 3 months ago on this beauty ^^

I get 40~60 when playing normally (Max settings but antialias off, as in my opinion it doesn’t make things look any better)), and 30~40 at world bosses (Except frozen maw, the snow effects there on top of the crowd pulls me down to 15~20).

I am rocking a budget gaming system that cost £400 or so. nothing amazingly spectacular but still gives great performance in every aspect of GW2

Haha, is it really that bad? I have a desktop I built when gw2 released that was kinda beast at the time. I wanted a dedicated laptop ONLY FOR WORK, so I just bought one of the new Macbook Pro’s…

First thing I did was install Guild Wars 2. Haven’t really played it much on mac yet though.

Edit: To stay on topic. I play on Ultra with vsync on and reflections to “sky and terrain only” (full reflections kill my fps for some reason), so it sits at 60fps during open world with not too many people, dungeons, and sPvp. During events with many people or large WvW fights, it sits around 20-25fps.

My mac is my sort of “work computer”, I guess. It’s a dual xeon with 32 gigs of ram etc etc specs and kitten waving.

The point is, my computer is as good as anyone elses here, but the game performs pretty awfully haha…. Honestly, I need to just get around to bootcamping it so I can just run the game in Windows….

The Mac client’s basically an emulation anyways, if I understand correctly. I get like 20 FPS in a fight, and around 40 in town. If I stand still in an empty place I get 60.

The game crashes if you have too much stuff going on, at least on my version of the OS. WvW and world bosses are the worst offenders. Drives me nuts. Doesn’t happen as often as it used to though.

From what you described what you need is to lock your FPS at 30 and set the population limit to lowest.
You’ll still see all the name tags (if you have them on) but you won’t get 100 characters on your screen which will improve performance greatly.

Also as a laptop, make triple sure you have good ventilation, a cooler pad is a must.

60+ fps in sparsely populated maps at medium high settings. 15-30 at world bosses depending on size of zerg. Turning off player names usually give me a 5-10 fps boost.

Between 4-7fps for regular game play. I drop down to 1-2fps during fights with big crowds.

How do you manage to do anything with only 4-7 fps? O.o

I can move fine. Things get choppy during big fights and some cut scenes but other than that it’s ok. I do have everything set as low as it can go, so while the game doesn’t look the greatest, I can still play. I’m on an HP laptop same as the OP so upgrades are not an option. One day though, I shall build a real pc.

144 fps normally. 40 fps during large fights.

I can technically ‘get’ higher FPS, but 144 Hz is my monitor refresh limit.

Similarly anyone running 80-100 FPS values who does NOT possess a >60 Hz capable monitor should set the FPS limiter to 60 FPS, as running it above generates more heat and uses more power in exchange for giving you tearing artifacts and zero extra performance.

Sometimes running your monitor at its native resolution makes things behave better too. I get somewhat better performance out of 3840×2160 than slightly lower resolutions. Though seeing the posts here make me feel a bit better about not getting a constant 60fps. Maybe the mac client isn’t quite as terrible as I thought.

It might be. These guys probably have, system-spec speaking, only a fraction of your Mac’s performance.

80% utilisation of a 2000 point system will still exceed 100% utilisation of a 600 point system, if it was possible to somehow collapse system performance into a single variable (it isn’t). But you get my idea.

I’m pretty sure the game doesn’t make use of all of my hardware, is the thing. It’s not really something I can complain about, but I think that’s the issue. Is the windows version 64-bit? IIRC, the emulation used for mac is only 32-bit, which is part of the issue heh… It is what it is, I guess. The game’s certainly not unplayable.

It doesn’t matter because any number above your monitor refresh rate disappears entirely. Having spare performance is only good for keeping FPS at your monitor’s maximum at higher demands.

The only difference you can tell between 144 fps and 300 fps on any game on a 144 hz monitor is that the higher number will have more tearing artifacts.
