Maybe this is new maybe not, but I just noticed, that arena-net added Awesomium_processes.exe to run in the background in your windows task manager to make the gem store work. I have noticed some severe lag from this function, and after I first thought this was a malicious function, and deleted it, it download again from the launcher, and when i took it out of the GW2 (temp) folder GW2 gem store did not work. My main question is why did arena-net not inform us that they were adding a new process that looks highly suspicious?

In a nutshell, Awesomium is the games internet browser that is used for the BLTC and such.

It’s not new by any stretch of the imagination.

That process is needed for the TP to run.
Careful not to get it blocked by your firewall or you wont be able to use the TP and gemstore.

Thanks, I still think they should have informed us though, prior to uploading it on us.

Several other games use that as well. And every time I’m like “Dude this is a shady sounding program! DENY!” and then remember that it’s not.

I really wish they would change the name of that executable to suit the game lol. “GW2_Browser.exe” would be pretty darn awesome, IMO.

This has been there since Beta, I thought it was malicious software too, however some quick searches shows that several gaming companies with Micro-Transaction based systems also use this.

In the end you should be fine. Best of Luck.

Also, this game takes more CPU power, maybe your lagging because of it?
On my laptop I ran high settings during all betas (max). Then they “Optimized” the game and now I have to run everything on Low. Not to mention I was getting real fps issues but my graphics card was barely being used. Turned out my laptop processor was throttling. So I got a program to stop the throttling, and have been running much better in all games.

Throttlestop for the win

It’s a process used by the in-game minibrowser aka the TP.
It won’t destroy your computer, that is a job for all the bloatware you have installed.

It’s a part of the game. It’s a licensed 3rd party bit that is used. Just about every game you have installed on your computer has some 3rd party software somewhere.

Probably because it doesn’t look highly suspicious to them. GW2 is not the only game that uses it, and it’s easy to find out what it is by Googling it.

As others have said, this isn’t a new process. It’s been there as long as I’ve been playing.
