I worked very hard to get my MF up to a decent level, but this patch seems to be a slap in the face of that effort. All the loot is coming from chest rewards and bags, both of which are not affected by MF. Is there a reason for this change?

The bags also give a bunch of garbage gear which most people salvage. Seems to be a method of increasing mystic stone purchases for mystic salvage kits. I know I’ve already gone through several.

Eh, still get charged lodestones/cores sometimes from dust mites/twisters. Loot is fine in my book.

i have nothing against the loot or the lack of mob loot because it is continual events on the new map.. i do however dislike that they added magic find utilities in the halloween patch and advanced magic find boosters in black lion keys.. if they change it that max’d base magic find users can convert enchanted boosters into the high end version, than i will be ok with that.. but otherwise it really is just a kick in the teeth to their non- black lion key pets.. magic find was one of the few traditional mmo goals this game has that i was glad to have completed.. i wouldn’t be surprised if they already fiddled with the drop rates during the new changes

I thought it was hilarious that you have a buff in this new zone that increases your mf… only mf doesn’t do anything. It would be like giving a wxp boost while in dungeons, or precision during teq fights.

Actually, the buff specifically says it influences bandit chests. It is very much in your best interest to stack it before chest hunting.

On the flip side, I find it’s a lot easier to manage bag space. All you gotta do is not open the bags.

But yes, I think the MF system in general could use another pass.

Or words to that effect.

The drop mechanics for loot in this area really decreases my desire to play the newest level 80 zone for the long term. Especially if I wanted to make a Legendary. Shouldn’t the newest zone promote all types of players to want to play it? It really feels like a WvW training wheels zone over a zone that is the new hotness for drops. Also, why in the heck aren’t the bandit crests going in my wallet? You know, the wallet they made for currencies?

The drop mechanics for the loot are fine in the new zone, when I first went in there last night and played and seen no enemies dropping loot or very little, I thought oh here we go again Anet, BUT having actually played it, there are loads of chests on the map if your a roamer that u can open, and the keys are fairly cheap, so you take part in the events get the keys and open the chests, which can easily drop enough loot to replace the non mob drops,

Im actually starting to like this new design, as it also deters bots etc, so im a say keep up the good work on that, we are being rewarded for our time in this new map.

As for the boost to MF everyone gets it the same, and Anet does not state if MF affects Champ bags in here or not.

I actually think the bags are misleading (or if a glitch, I just brought this to anets attention and ruined it for everyone). They say “fine and masterwork” but I got an exotic head piece out of one. And a few dates too.

That mean the base is fine and masterwork. If the drops are of high enough level, they can get upgraded to rares and then to exotics if you’re lucky enough – the same way as drops from, i.e. starting zone jumping puzzles.

I should clarify that I really like the method of drops in the new zone, I think it is well done. I just think they should revamp MF to include opening bags and chests since that seems to be where the majority of loot comes from. Clearly they can do this since they did it for the lockbox chests.

mm… hmm.. nope.

New loot system is nice.
Anything that isn’t an event mob still drops loot.

Also I’m finding the events for killing the lone vets seems to drop loot too. Possibly a few other event mobs, like the yak escorts – though they may be regular spawns.

Removes DR essentially, though I’m pretty sure event medals are still affected.

All in all I’m reasonably impressed at the balance of skill/reward here. Modrem being a little less face-rolly than most CS mobs is nice.

The bags are probably a necessary evil because of the way that the player base (portions of it anyways) treats events. If the defense event mobs dropped loot, how long do you think it would have taken until people figured out which events were best to upscale and repeatedly fail to farm champ bags?

IMO the bags are a nice compromise to even out rewards and not turn events into a tag fest. In general, it should also encourage cooperation to succeed. Well done.

I was beginning to think I was the only one! Yes! So much this, I’ve played for hours in the new area and felt less rewarded than half that time in WvW or PvP. On the flipside, the meta event and map mechanics are wonderfully executed and fun to play (hence why I played for so long with virtually no reward, kill 50 mordrem solo get 2 crests and 2 silky sand. No thanks i’ll pass) The decision to remove loot drops from mobs was terrible, not just because it takes away the value of mf.

Doesnt MF actually affect those new bags (I’m not saying about any other bag in the game, just the new ones)

Because I had a buff that said something like “+30% Magic find (while opening bags)” or something like that.

Maybe these new bags works the same way PvP bags do (they are affected by MF)

Read the buff again, it does NOT affect bags, it works on the buried chests in that map, champ bags are not affected by MF

Anet hates farmers. Between Diminishing returns, and a philosophy of mobs not dropping loot, Magic fnd does seem to be pretty useless.

Except in Orr, Harathi hinterlands, & maybe Southsun Cove.

But please continue to evangelize Magic Find. I listed my Strawberry Ghosts at 40 copper and stand to make quite a return if they ever sell.

At this point I’m a little surprised some of you still have teeth…
I’d say MF got kicked during Halloween (All the loot came from bags… And how much MF came out of them)

Certainly the amount of luck being pushed in now from these bags is also making luck easier to farm. (Of course it doesn’t actually do anything in the new area’s).

Personally I like the bags because I don’t have to empty my inventory frequently. However it wouldn’t hurt if MF was included instead of just being for dungeon runs and low lvl champ farms.

The bags are a step towards countering the additional rewards of upscaled events. The more people you bring to an event, the easier it gets (usually) and the more loot you are rewarded due to there being more targets and maybe even champions.

Take the Halloween doors for example. You can easily get 10x the rewards by bringing 10-20 people vs 1-5. By removing loot from mobs and placing it on the event completion, small groups will get the same rewards as zergs, though the small group has to put in more effort, especially when the content doesn’t scale very well.

Unfortunately, the abuse of tagging/contribution is still a problem, even more so under this system.
