So That_Shaman just released a new video of the upcoming Balthazar Outfit.

When it’s coming, is another matter entirely, but I just want to thank Anet for making this possible. I’ve waited so long for this exact Balthazar look (see pics below), and I’ll finally be happy with my warriors look with this. Definitely buying (if it indeed is an outfit and is ending up in the gemstore).

I’m hoping this isn’t the last of the god-themed armors as outfits either (see pic2). I think they’d be amazing and many people will like them.

Anyway, thanks in advance for when it’s out – I can’t wait for it to be in game!

Yeah, why can’t we use the individual pieces? What a waste. Maybe it’s more effort to make the pieces separate but ultimately they make more money in the end.

Its less effort on their part to make outfits, because they don’t have to worry about clipping with other armours, and because they don’t have to make dye channels for each piece individually, they can just dye channel the whole thing as 1 piece.

And also don’t have to make 3 different versions to match the 3 armor weights.

(Even if the look of it was identical the pieces join up in different places, so they would have to be re-built for each armor weight.)

First of all, nobody said Outfits had to replace Wardrobes.

And second of All, some of us like having the ability to dress non-plated classes in a armor of plated armor for role playing purposes. I been asking for more heavy armor outfits for this reason. I want to role play a death knight on my Necromancer, and a good looking plated outfit would help get the job done.

I want more plated outfits. Because light armor and med armor classes don’t get plated armor skins in the wardrobe.

I’m not sure, if we aren’t then mods feel free to close this thread. I figured since it’s public knowledge it is allowed? Like the wings – they aren’t out yet but we’re discussing them. Also happened with Caithe’s dagger, and those threads weren’t closed.

Also I know there are many who don’t like outfits (there are some I wish weren’t outfits, rather individual pieces instead), but I feel as though if we as a community keep dissing outfits as a whole, then they’ll go completely, and it can be a bad thing for 2 reasons:

1) you’ll end up having to use transmutation charges for each piece
2) those who like to wear said outfit on light/medium/heavy will be restricted to only 1 armor class, rather than all 3

I know there are positives and negatives to outfits, but at this rate with all the negativity surrounding them, I feel we’re going to have another cultural t3/flamekissed armor situation where outfits are replaced entirely with just skins restricted to 1 armor class and require transmutation charges.

I would suggest perhaps (to please everyone) make outfits individual skins that can apply to any armor class, but also be free to apply (like hall of monuments skins, daily achievement skins, and, well, outfits of course). This way it’s a win-win for everyone? Though it would be a lot of work, so I don’t know if it’s even possible. I’m happy with this one being an outfit anyways, but that’s just me.

My taste is almost always different than the armor designers, so outfits are awful for me. I need to mix and match to get something I’m satisfied. This is a perfect example. Parts are awesome and I’d like to include with other pieces. But combined, not so much.

Also, seriously… another butt skirt? Can’t I opt to just cut it off?

18 outfits in the game , 3 more datamined… the past year ONE armor set (3 weight classes) added to the game… yea it totally does not feel like the wardrobe becomes a useless and obsolete tool. If that trend continunes then there wont be any new skins.
People like me would like to have new parts to work into their looks. Id buy the balthazar outfit just for the gloves and pauldrons and a few packs of transmutation changes to put them onto several of my alts while wearing most of the set on another alt i got and most likely would have a good day to shove more money into a-nets face via gem cards cause i might also need a new weapon skin or two to complete a look. But its an outfit… i play charr and its certain that there will be clipping on the buttcape.. so i cant replace it with a skin that doesnt do this, also the helmet is too overkill for my taste and its either no helmet or gtfo…but whatever…

Im also aware that you are on your holy “muh heavy outfits fur muh necruhhhh” quest so no need to justify yourself.. i dont give a darn what your reasons are and you most certainly dont care a single second cause you only want your heavy necro look and everybody else can go and screw themselfes… so lets not even start to argue… hope ya have fun with your outfit

I agree It’s awesome to be able to wear it starting at lvl 1 that is the great thing about outfits, but there is nothing special about wearing the same exact thing as everyone else. I personally like mix n match more, really wish they would come out with an unlimited transmutation stone so i could mix n match lvling up too. Would be SWEET!

not kormir. having her take credit for our work was bad enough. :/

EDIT: on topic i do agree about wishing this was an armor skin. i would love to mix a piece from each of the gods for my human character. So far we have grenths hood, heavenly bracers of dwayna, the chaos of lyssa, i would take the shoulders from this outfit for balthazar and maybe keep melandru’s gaze as a main weapon. (obviously I refuse to acknowledge Kormir)

Though i hope they bring back the Soulbreaker as like a greatsword skin or something. that was one of the better, simpler scythe skins and had a neat backstory. (it has never left my dervish’ weapon slots)

Two armor sets were added, and iirc at least one set of armor has also been datamined. And that’s on top of the 50+ armor sets per weight that already exist (plus standalone pieces).

I just re-watched the video, and I noticed only the “cape” changes colour in each preview.

Does this mean the armour set we’re paying £8 for cannot be recoloured?

First we can’t mix and match, now we can’t recolour. Whoever it making these decisions needs to be fired, because they’re going to lose you a lot of money if this philosophy continues, ArenaNet.

While I’d like to hug Anet for finally putting some concern in asuran feet, I’ve gotten sick of outfits long ago.

How long has it been since there have been some new armor-sets in the gem-store?

I guess everyone is hard at work for the armors in HoT and I really hope they put the same concern for all races into their new armors.

However, I want something to enrich my character-design with, rather than something new to slap over and cover it, so I don’t think I’ll put out any gems for upcoming outfits.

The outfit looks neat though, I’d probably buy it if it was an armor-skin instead.

but there is nothing special about wearing the same exact thing as everyone else. I personally like mix n match more

Well, I often see the same or very similar mix-and-match on people, especially medium armor because people avoid trenchcoats and the non-trenchcoat options are very limited. It’s always human T3 on females or Sneakthief or Krytan or that skirt (I forgot the name). About half of the heavy females wear Phalanx set or at least the bottom part or more parts, that thing is everywhere. Light armor has slightly better options.

Also, a good colour combo is the key to look more unique. To me, black and/or white is very boring yet 90% of the people use this combo or pure black / pure white. It’s gonna get worse once we get those black wings… Attack of the black clones very soon. :P

The problem is outfits are taking away options. Noone prevents another person from running t3 medium strip dancer in all abyss dye. However it is a problem for people who like and want to mix their skins. This is lazy cash grab because designers don’t want to put an effort in designing seperate parts.

I’m happy there’s so much people despising outfits. Maybe finally we’ll get some good armor skins, not just lazy textures.

People complain that it is an outfit.

But had it been an armour set then people would complain that they had to buy the entire set just to use 1 piece they like, and then have to spend transmutation charges.

since when was this EVER a problem? Its kittening obvios that if its a skin PACK and you only want one skin you will need to have to buy said PACK to get the skin you want. Also transmutation charges are not expensive AND drop till the cows come home in pvp aswell map completion and black lion chests. Also… at outfits i got NO chance in hell to get just the piece i like… and THATS the issue, thats why people complain. There might be pieces they dont like on an outfit and want to replace them with parts they DO like..or the other way arround and use pieces on the look they got right now from the new sets. Also people do complain cause the outfits do bring in so many interresting pieces but right away shove you a middle finger into the nose if you even think about combining them. Id buy the darn armor just for pauldrons and gloves alone for example. Also 4 colour slots? kittening really? Well it looks like at the new armor only can colour its cape anyways..but thats besides the point even if it makes my complains even more valid.

Visuals are end game, means you most likely will spend a lot of time putting your look together and update it with new parts as stuff gets released you find appealing and outfits turn you into a drone that looks like the other guy with the same outfit. If you wanna look like everybody else.. then by all means by my guest… but i refuse to pay 8 bucks for a look thats as flexible as a concrete slap and i will keep complaining about them cause what else do we got besides visual end game atm? Nothing… so atleast that stuff should bring some fresh air. “b-but basalt its for leveling and stuff and i can have 2 looks and stuff” yea and arent 18 of these darn things enough for that? No… gotta have another kittening 3 datamined and one including the anise´s armor thingy that people ask for since game release date. Prepare for the kittenstorm once thats released as an outfit… i personally dont care about the look but man… thats gonna be a wild ride.

Also to release atleast here and there some skin packs BETWEEN this outfit cancer would be too much right? Maybe would keep people somewhat calm cause many (me included) WANT NEW PARTS and they dont get new parts… or rarely. Yea.. 2 new armors per weight class…one beeing a clone of the other with static and blue colour and 3 weightless pieces you cant even colour fully really hold up to the outfit galore recently. Cant speak for everybody but the “play like you want” is becoming more and more “play like we say, dress like we dictate (and if the armor really only can colour the cape also) colour your armor like we tell you to do”

Balthazar Outfit - thanks!!!

Wow… the hyperbole in this thread.
OP comes on and says ‘Cool outfit! Thanks Anet!’ and /instantly/, every hater that has an axe to grind in a furious rage has to come in and scream over him… I’m starting to realize why I don’t like complainers.
It isn’t that they complain. It’s that they must complain over everyone that could possible like something… Again. And again. And again… Aaaaand again… Over and over and over…
And not usually about legitimate issues, but instead making mountains out of anthills like this…

The outfit system is fine, and if you truly don’t like it, then don’t buy it. However, I just feel like pointing out, if this opinion was the majority, then why would Anet continue to make outfits like this? They would be losing money because people wouldn’t be buying them, right?
Well clearly people are buying them.

‘B-but… but Shinjo! THEY AREN’T GIVING US A CHOOOOOOICE!!!’

Actually, you have a lot of choices.
How many dozens of armor pieces are in the game vs outfits?
Lets really weigh things here and put this in perspective.

1254 individual armor pieces of varying weights. (Give or take, my math could be off. Not counting aquatic headgears.)
46 full sets. x3 for each weight class. (Either from the Gem Store in in the game via Karma or Gold or even Crafting.)

By comparison, we have…

18 Outfits, soon to be 1 or 2 more.

Not counting aquatic headgear. Or Back pieces, of which there are 112.

… My numbers might be a bit off, but it hardly seems like they are overloading the game with outfits.

I’m not a “hater” but a “disappointer” .. because since we got the wardrobe we didn’t
got any single armor-set in the shop that we can mix and match .. not one .. only
outfits .. and that when the wardrobe is built specially to mix and match armor.

Its the same ironic stuff then what we got with the traits .. we can now change them
whenever we want .. however most new characters don’t have much more traits
then they need for one build to experiment with them-

Also .. i don’t have anything against outfits .. if we get both outfits and sets it would
be perfectly fine .. the problem is like i said : no sets at all anymore since 1 year.
