I don’t understand the purpose in one part of the game to make it easier for solo then out of the blue put a legendary boss just popping in on you. There is no explanation as to really why. Yeah the thing in your inventory says you are marked but things like that have been done in the past many times. Now champ sure, I would understand that. But a legendary in an event that most of the time, at least for me, only has five people. I don’t even mind if the champs had special defenses or attacks that one has to learn. But the five of us were trapped without warning or indication something would even happen and even with us surviving for some time with it we didn’t even do a noticeable amount of damage. And then I read on dulfy that it has ap. Come on 10 ap for a boss that takes at least 20 people to kill, 10 if you have an understanding of the boss and communication, is a bit underwhelming for something that for most will be impossible. And I say impossible because not all of us are able be on when everyone else is and zerg the thing.

It’s far from impossible. I’ve just come away from a fight, from the Queensdale one, and there couldn’t have been more than eight or nine of us. We actually did the bounty with only five, but a couple of other people turned up as the legendary spawned.

I was surprised it was a Legendary, rather than a Champion though. But still, the returning of the Marionette music? Now that was awesome!

I will say there was a warning – an in game mail went out with an item that warned Executioners could attack during a bounty.

We just didnt know it was a legendary. I can see that being an issue for a small group, however, I thought this was a rather cool addition that actually made the situation feel dangerous. So far these bandits didnt feel very threatening. This upped it

No matter when I’ve done these new Executioners, we have succeeded. They just take awhile, and one must keep on the move.

If you are having difficulties, I’m sure the weekend will bring more players on (though, that may just scale more Champions to spawn alongside…lol).

Good luck.

As I mentioned in my post I know the item in my inventory mentioned I would be attacked but that was not my issue. I love fighting legionaries from time to time they keep the game challenging. But when an item is give to me in mail to do an event it is usually an indication that to some degree it is soloable, since unlike mails in the past that warn you it is a group event. But legionaries for an event that doesn’t indicate it is a group event is a bit pushing it for me.
I guess I am more curious if this is going to be the trend now. Putting things in that are unsoloable just after they made a point of saying they adjusted things in HoT so more of it is soloable. It just sound a bit contradictory to the adjustments they just made.
Now just an fyi I don’t have a problem now that I know what to expect and can prepare for it. But it was the lack of full warning that bothered me. A simple addition of the words “Group Event” on the note in my inventory at least would indicate to me that I can’t solo it. Or even something to the effect of “Be sure to have help for the executioners”

I role-played it. Someone gave me a token and said “if you carry this you will be attacked”.

So I didn’t carry it…

The difficulty of legendary mobs doesn’t always require a zerg.
Just need to know the mechanics most of the time.

It does require you to be an okay player with some situational awareness though.

I will have to see if this is one of those that can be 3 to 5 manned like the verdant brink bosses like patriarch. But it should technically be fine if the scaling is well designed.

Keep in mind I am not posting this as a complaint but more as just information since I enjoyed even the epic failures with the legendary executioners.
But I found nothing to counter my comment earlier about needing at least 10 people to kill one. It took me four tries to kill one. The first three had between four to six people trying to kill it. But on the last one there was between ten and twenty of us and we killed it. And I will grant zerg may be a bit of an over exaggeration. Course I never really know how much is required for a zerg either since I have only played Guild wars.

Not everyone got that mail right after the patch. For some reason I didn’t get that mail until after I failed at one legendary bandit and then killed a second one. So no, there wasn’t really a warning to every player.

It was a fun fight though, I really enjoyed it. The attack pattern was pretty confusing at first though and he deals a lot of damage so that took some getting used to. But if you have ~8 people who understand the mechanics its a doable fight, just takes a while

I don’t understand the problem here? Finally we get some new events in Tyria for everyone, and now the problem is: it cannot be soloed?
Doesn’t matter what time you are encountering this legendary, if you say it on map chat, that a legendary mob spawned and even give the location, players will come and help.

If someone feels like it is too much, just simply walk away from that event/mob and leave it. 99,9% of PvE content can be soloed in Tyria if someone likes to fight alone in this huge world. Is interacting with players such a big problem though? o.O

When we 3 or 5 manned Shadow behemoth, it felt very underwhelming. I mean this big giant boss should be able to wipe out solo roamers/small groups easily. That’s the point of world bosses i thought. i was sad.

But this thread makes me happy, I’m glad they have implemented some challenging content that can spawn at any moment. Pretty cool addition i thought.

a mob being “legendary” just means its a “champion” with some kind of special mechanic.

SB isn’t a great example. Mechanically its a very straightforward and simple fight, with attacks that are easy to dodge and his healthy isn’t that high. The mechanic is the portals, and if they scale with the group (IDK if they do or not) then that means there were even fewer mechanics for your guys to deal with. Basically I don’t think he is an adequate representation. Try 3 or 5 manning Teq, Shatterer or TT (or at least one of the heads) and it will be harder.

@insanemaniac – Not really. Legendary mobs also have a lot higher health and deal more damage. The legendary executioner has way more health than any champion at that level would have, his health drops so incredibly slowly. And his mechanics are much more difficult than any champion in those maps. I’d say he was HoT map difficulty and ANet placed him in central tyria and now people who haven’t played HoT don’t understand how difficult he is

Personally I don’t think the legendary executioner is difficult. She has a very distinct attack pattern that you can dodge easily. I ended up solo’ing her down to 60% using crappy ranged weapons. The only reason I ended up killing myself is because I got tiered of fighting with the reflects and slow dps thereof. Next time I’m going in there with my flame thrower and bomb kits. It won’t take any effort to bring her down with those two.

Bee once the legendary appears and you start fighting it you can’t leave. There is a barrier that prevents you from leaving. But I do get where you are coming from. I just over typed my initial post. It isn’t that it isn’t soloable as much as the item gave no indication it was a legendary or at least a hint that it may require more then one. The item said it was for my char personally and in the past if it was indicated that it was just for the char it was soloable at least once one figured out what to do. But a legendary needs at least 2 people to do it especially with the mechanics I saw.

Actually it IS possible to leave, just maybe not you specifically. As an Ele I was able to “Lightning Flash” in and out of the bubble…however you DO have to have it equipped before the fight starts since you can’t get ooc in the bubble …at least I wasn’t able to.

when the executioner spawned (after the death of the champ) we were 6 or 7 ppl.
during the exe fight a lot of players joined and the executioner was drawn away.

funny thing was that some of us (i guess the ones that were there when the fight started) could not follow as we were trapped in the bubble. they were even outside my ranger’s bow range.
while the ones that had joined later drew the boss away, the players inside the bubble had to deal with the bosses special area attacks and the spawning veteran wizards.

at least we all got credit of the final kill even though he was out of range in the end.

It can easily be killed with a small group. Likely even solo. It’s just going to take a ton of time, since his hps do not seem to scale down that well.

Also, they really could have eased down on missile hate for this encounter.

As a necro I don’t know any other then maybe wurm that might get me out of it but now you have given me something to play around with to find out.

Flesh wurm works to get you in/out of the bubble. Just have it on your bar if you’re going around killing the champions, hoping for an executioner spawn.

Yeah, definitely do that in advance. I forgot to put mine on when I was killing my last champ for the achievement, and I didn’t get out of the area quickly enough after the Executioner spawned. So, I had to wait to die or just fight the Exec. :p
