First, let me say kudos to the stuff regarding the release and the content that is slated to be delivered. Even the mounts (which I’m still against personally for certain reasons) look to be well executed and hopefully won’t annoy me too greatly should i grab the xpac. For the most part the new elite specs look nice and the environments look stunning.

More importantly many kudos on the pricing shift that took those of us with core and HoT into consideration.

That being said, however, I’m a touch worried about the fact that it doesn’t look like core/HoT are being included at the higher prices. Specifically HoT. Now, maybe I’m missing something here, but it looks like there will be some need for gliding or at least the ability to glide in PoF, but as it stands now that seems to be a skill only learned and mastered in HoT. So is Anet telling new players that if they buy PoF that they are going to learn the hard way that a now almost necessary mechanic will be unavailable to them unless they drop more money on HoT?

Honestly wondering what all is being done about this because as much as I’d like to talk up things like the xpac to new non-gw2 players, I can’t see them dropping money on this if they are also having to buy HoT as well.

Is there is plan to do a special priced bundle for the two? I just want to know what I can tell someone looking for a way into the game without scaring them off price wise.

There is a bundle. At checkout, you can add HoT at a discounted price. If I understand correctly, if you buy PoF for $30, the bundle price is $50. In other words, normal expansion price.

Tell them they can play the current game for free (with lots of limitations) for the next month plus, even participating in a trial run.

Then they have the option of spending a mere $US30 on PoF, which includes the core game. If they want both expacs, they can save some by buying both together for $50.

  • PoF: US$30 (also €30, £30)
  • For deluxe (skins, character slot, identity repair kit, VIP lounge): add $25 for ~$35+ worth of upgrades.
  • For ultimate (4000 gems plus deluxe stuff): add $25 more (i.e. pay $50 to get $50 worth of gems plus $35 worth of upgrades).
  • For HoT: add $20

There really isn’t a financial loss in buying the most expensive except for higher taxes. I will preface this with if you buy gems regularly this really is the best option since you’re basically paying the same as buying the expansion no perks. Again the difference in tax is the only quote cost. If you don’t buy gems then yes there’s a difference, however, 4000 gems can be used to get gold or items you normally don’t buy.

Those of us on a budget see $80 as less affordable than $30 — that’s a financial loss of $50, even if Ultimate has more than $50 worth of account value.
