Bank space is worse than F2P games
Doubling stacks to 500 would be a good start. 250 is just too low with all the crafting in this game.
Please stop lumping yourself in with the rest of us that don’t need or require more bank space.
9 level 80’s multiple gearsets on each and yet here’s my bank.
And how is this screenshot indicative of the rest of us? It’s indicative of you and you only. Leave “the rest of us” out of it.
And to the OP – bank space in GW2 wouldn’t be a problem if there weren’t so many items that couldn’t be fit into the wallet. I will give Anet credit for allowing things like bandit crests to be included at least.
Bandit Crests? They do not go in the wallet, even though they are the main offender of killing space these days (other than Dragonite).
Yes, I know that. You didn’t read what I said.

Yah. But again, there are no champs in the low level areas. So either OP was in EOTM before playing 10 hours of the game (which is possible but either someone would have to recommend it and show him how to get there by running him to Lion’s Arch and going through the WvW portal, because new accounts can’t access WvW before level 18 or he reached level 18 and immediately went to EOTM and got the exotic in the short time he was there) or he is confused about getting an exotic as a drop
I was making a comment on the unlikelihood that he got an exotic within 10 hours of starting the game as opposed to the more likely possibility that he is confused about what he got,
IIRC, fire ele gives champ boxes, SB gives champ boxes, Caledon’s wurm gives champ boxes, and Maw gives champ boxes. Plus Fire ele’s got the champ steam ogre when a troll guild doesnt roll along and spawn it out of order. Granted, it’s been so long since I’ve done those events on a lower level character that I’m not sure if there’s a level requirement for getting the champ boxes from them. Coincidences aside, it is possible to get a named exotic that early. (And on that note, I know what to do to level my thief… as soon as she’s explored more of the map than just the path from the asura starting instance to the bank level in rata sum)
Of course, he could just as easily be referring to exotic champ loot bags. But since the OP basically abandoned the thread, hard to tell either way.
On the subject of worse bag space: I briefly tried Allods. You start with six slots. Six. And have to pay quite a bit for bigger bags, in actual RL money. I really don’t think GW2 is worse than F2P for bag space
Allods was never that bad. You’re given a larger bag fairly soon through one of the rewards, and you end up at like 24/30 slots by the time you hit the level cap. My Paladin’s bag has been at 42 slots since the level 51 patch and it’s never caused problems (I had been playing off and on since beta, never hit the level cap until ~a week after the 51 patch hit). Once you start pushing into the upper bag sizes it does get pricey, though, but at least there’s gold>gemshard conversion. Andddddddddd now I want to play Allods again…
That being said, even with entirely unupgraded bag space I’ve never really had issues in GW2. I only have 20s on one of my characters, the rest are 15/18 and they almost all have multiple gear/weapon/jewelry sets. I don’t even use my guild bank space; all of the slots are filled with my investments. I do feel like bag expansions are too expensive for what they are, though.

Yah. I forgot about them. However when I do those boss events on my level 20s and below level 20, I only got items scaled for that level. I suppose they occasionally hand out high level items but I suspect it’s rare.
Wiki says: “Like all loot, there is a high chance to get a loot bag of your level, and a chance to get a loot bag of the champion enemy’s level.” which makes me suspect either the char or the champ need to be high level enough to get an exotic drop, except maybe as a very low chance (which makes me doubtful that OP actually got an exotic within the first 10 hours of playing but confused the item with something else)

As long as the lower level characters still get the champ bags the chances of getting an exotic is actually pretty decent. Much higher than their chances of getting an exotic from a random mob kill anyway.

i’d imagine it would be fairly difficult for a new player to have enough dps to get credit for the event / mob drop in events like that though especially at events like FE / SB etc where a 100 players show up so it upscales to the most difficult version
also on the topic of a personal guild bank if it costs 2g per 1k renown then to get the 2500 you need to buy 6g worth plus 1g for the creation of the guild so it should be around 7g to make a guild bank without doing any events to earn the renown

Getting 150 storage slots from a guild bank is still cheaper than converting enough gold to buy a single bank tab. On the other hand you can’t store account bound stuff in the guild bank.
Add the 4 extra char slots (who can hold account bound items) and you have 128 more slots if they each have the 4 slot starting bags.
I have one of each profession, 4 of which are Lv80. I buy the 18 slot bags because the differnce in 2 slots per bag vs the difference in gold per bag doesn’t make it worth it. For now.
I’d like to point out that you can not put account/soul bound items into the guild bank. This is kinda problematic as the only items that I have taking up space are account bound.
Yet, I don’t really have an issue with bank space. Blood Stone, Fragments, and Dragonite is just too easy to get. Once your mat storage is full for these, don’t bother holding onto more in your bank or char inventory. Not worth losing the space over.
Got an account bound tonic that’ll turn you into something just sitting there collecting dust for the past 6 months? Why hold onto it?
I keep two additional piles of the three mats mentioned above (which I think I’ll probably destroy). I keep mystic shards (these should have a mat slot like mystic coin does). I have a total makeover kit and hairstyle kit. I have two ascended rings which is for two of my uplevels. I already know what their builds are going to be. I have a lvl 20 scroll for when the expansion comes out as well as tomes of knowledge.
Point is, don’t hold onto something on the premise of ‘just in case’. Either you have a reason to hold onto it (eg. the ascended rings for my uplevels) or you don’t (eg. the stacks of mats which I plan on destroying).
I keep food for each character stored on the character. Also each character holds onto salvage kits.
I did purchase the upgrade to mat storage so a stack is 500 instead of 250. I’ll admit that, considering what high end recipes call for, that 250 default is too low.
When the game first came out the TP didn’t even work for like a week. I was banking all my greens cause i knew they would be worth a bunch when the TP finally went up (I ended up selling them for 3-4s per which was a kittenload of money back then) and I had no problems stashing all my greens for a week.
Sounds like you just need to git gud.

It would be nice if you could unlock 1 or 2 extra bank spaces through game play but its really not needed. Bank space is completely functional and gives you enough space for anyone that is not hoarder and there are things you can do even if you are a hoarder. Like create more characters and use them as mules. Email items to the mules and don’t pull the items out of them. Out of all the things being sold in the gem store, bank space and increased material collection size are the 2 things that I have no issues at all being there as they are only QoL items. Do they make life more convenient and make it so you waste less time with inventory management? Yes. That’s what QoL items are supposed to do. Do you need them to do any part of the game? Nope. Does it put something in to the gem store that should be earned in game? Yes and no. In DDO you can unlock a couple of bank tabs through game play and the rest of the bank slots unlock with real money. But DDO has way less space then GW2. GW2 has a normal bank space equal to DDOs entire bank space with unlocked tabs and bought tabs. The amount of space compared to guild wars 1 is about the same as the comparison to DDO. So I really don’t think we are getting screwed on space. I think they gave us a good amount to start with and made it so you can upgrade to an even better amount for a better QoL in game.
I’m am no defender of arenanet, I just think there is way more important things to fight for rather than some QoL change like adding more bank space. Which isn’t in a bad place anyways.

Just a point, you can’t email to yourself. You would have to either email to a friend and have him send it back (and this won’t work for account/soulbound items) or have an alt account to email back and forth.

I would agree, but OP is not level 80 and not in Silverwastes yet. I have dedicated 4 slots for bandit crests and it seems to be just fine ^^
Only 4? That is only 1000 crests, which is what many of the items cost. 12 for 3000 is probably the average.

what items? Where? 1000 for all carapace skins, 1000 for all the pinks and 1200 for the pets I believe. That’s the most expensive items that I know of. And when I hit 1000 I tend to get the skin that I want so I only really need to dedicate 4 slots.
Seriously people? Most games make you buy extra inventory space. Gw2 lets you convert gold→gems to do it. Same with your own character inventory space. It’s really not any different other than you have the option of using rl $ as well as in game currency.
You can start a personal guild and expand your personal guild bank and get more space that way.
Too many extra mats laying around? Make a storage alt, sell them, or trash the ones you can’t sell (it’s not like dragonite etc. are hard to get).
Want to save a skin? Salvage it and use a transmute stone later (easily obtained from PvP or map completion).
Seems to me entitled feeling people are just complaining that they have to play the game they bought to get extra bag space… which is pretty silly.

You are correct you bought the game. The game comes with 1 bank slot and 5 character slots with 5 bag slots. So, if you can’t make it work with 520 inventory slots, then it’s on you to either modify your play style or buy more bank/bag slots.
That’s like saying, “I bought the game and it only came with 5 character slots but there are 8 classes, 5 races, and 2 sexes. I should have 80 character slots to be able to play them all.”

I meant 3000 is probably what the average person holds onto. Anyway, these should be in the currency tab, not taking up our ever-shrinking space.
.
I mean, what other games has a whole bank specified to crafting mats? What other games has a button to store crafting mats in the bank without having to go there?
WOW does
WOW also charges you 15 dollars a month. That much money can be used to buy more bank slots in GW2 with ease.
It’s also a tad misrepresentative too. WoW added one medium sized tab in your vault for crafting in September of this year. A full 2 years after GW2 was released, and it is nowhere near a full functioned

The guild bank
To start a guild costs one gold.
Creation: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild
“To create a guild, open the guild panel (G) and click on the “Create Guild” button. You will be asked to enter a guild name (up to 31 characters) and a tag of up to four characters. Guild tags are not unique, but guild names are. Alternatively, speak to a Guild Registrar in any of the major cities. It costs 1 to create a guild. You will be unable to create a guild while representing another, so you must Stand Down before creation."
Then to create a guild vault you must have enough influence, usually gained either by repping the guild while playing or buying influence from a Guild Promoter.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Influence
After that you have to start the vault by researching Architecture.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild_Vault
By the way, if you ever get a personal guild in which you are the sole leader or member, never leave the guild. If a guild is left without members it will disappear and the other members must have inviting privileges to get you back. The guild will be leaderless if they can’t promote you.

You can start a guild from basically anywhere for 1g, then you’d need to visit a Guild Promoter to purchase influence for gold. Then, per the wiki, you need to buy ranks in Architecture. First rank costs 500 influence (1g) and 12 hours, second rank costs 1000 influence (2g) and 36 hours, then you can build the smallest type of guild bank for another 1000 influence and 48 hours. More ranks in architecture will let you upgrade to a 150-slot guild bank and finally a 250-slot guild bank.
You can get cheap 20-slot bags from fractals by exchanging fractal relics, from the Uncanny Canner achievement (for finding jars, most of which come from hearts), and the Bandit Weapons Specialist achievement (for having every bandit weapon skin — they’re the first set of rare weapons you can make, and you can also get them cheaply for karma at your home citadel — and a Bandit Combat Journal, which costs 20s and 150 bandit crests in the Silverwastes).
By the way, if you ever get a personal guild in which you are the sole leader or member, never leave guild. If a guild is left without members it will disappear and the other members must have inviting privileges to get you back. The guild will be leaderless if they can’t promote you.
Standing down from a 1-person guild wouldn’t be a problem, surely?

As usual, a customer has decided that s/he ought to be able to decide what the base game purchase ought to buy and what the developer is allowed to charge extra for. That’s not how it works.
You realize you’re a customer who just did the same?
Not even close. All I did was recognize that a business has the right to set its own prices and to decide what those prices buy.
Sure, customers can state that they think prices are too high, or they don’t like certain things, but when they start deciding the way it should be, they’re stepping across a line. I’m all for consumers speaking up and most importantly voting with their wallets. However, I do call people when they word things in ways that sound entitled.
And if customers disagree the company changes or folds.

That’s true, been quite a while since I logged in and even longer since I actually did the mail thing. Which now that you mention it was with my daughter on her account. Good catch there and thank you for clarifying to people so they do not get confused.
Sorry to be super dense here, but what is it exactly that you have to purchase? Just getting back into the game, and have been saving everything while I figure out what I’m doing, and so this would be a great option to have.
Wiki says it causes your char to stop repping but not leave. However I’ve been too suspicious to try it. Lol. The only button I ever touch when I’m switching between guilds is the one to start repping

I paid $40 for this game. Bank space is NOT a luxury. Maybe the 4th or 5th “tab” would start to become optional, but one is NOT enough AT ALL. I should easily have 3x as much bank space by default or it should be easily unlockable via a few gold or level gating.
Now I’m not going to spend a dime on your cash shop just because I feel like you’re greedy.
And don’t even try to post that you can get it for free. You’d have to drop >100g or 5k achievement points on ONE extra tab. That’s a lot of playtime- it’d feel good to put it towards something fun. Instead you need a bank tab so you can stop using your character slots for storage space.
One tab is frankly bullkitten. Don’t charge me $40 for a game then demand I drop another $10 to be able to store a tiny fraction of the stuff I get in the first 10 hours of play.
Dont come to the forums complaining about anything because you will only find tons and tons of biasm from players defending anet’s every decision no matter how obviously flawed something is.

Or, and this is maybe just a stretch, some of us just disagree with such a rather opinionated and incredibly entitled-reading original post?
. . . or, like myself, came from games in the past where we weren’t so fortunate for storage space.

I think that Anet has made some very bad decisions and that the game has some pretty serious flaws.
But I disagree with the OP’s specific concern.
I do think, however, that it would be a very good idea to add the newer currencies to the wallet.
In a game based on vertical progression decision making on vault content is easy, just delete the inferior stuff as you make new and better stuff. However in a game based on horizontal progression that easy decision becomes a lot more complicated when it comes time to decide what to keep and what to get rid of. For example, if you are creating Mawdrey II you will need at least a dozen bank vault spaces to store the parts until you get it all together and that does not include the materials tab.
Mystic clovers, Gift of Battle, Gifts of Exploration, Pact Tokens, foxfire clusters, clothing tonics, potions such as endless toymaker, warm and cold, 14 different boosters, doubloons, Tomes of Knowledge and so on. All of these could be better stored in a different manner and not in the general vault tab. Each Living Story update adds a few more items to this list so I do understand the OPs point.
As far as the materials tab goes stack size should be increased for the raw materials. For example if a full stack of silk is 250 bolts make it so a full stack of silk scraps turned into bolts would fill the bolt stack. If I use all my mithril ingots I should be able to restock the ingots with raw mithril ore in stock and then go out and refill my ore bins.

Yep…. definitely a lack of storage space…. how dare you accuse me of holding onto too much junk?
I agree with the people who say junk will expand to fill the available space.
At least that’s what happens to me in all games. I just keep collecting stuff until I run out of space, sort it out, fill the space again, sort it again, and so on. It doesn’t really matter how much storage space is available, what type of items the game drops or what type of game it is. The only exception is old FPS games where
I’ve only got 3 bank tabs in GW2 (and both the extras were bought when they were on sale) and 11 empty spaces, but even then I can see 4 items I just haven’t bothered to give to the alts who need them, a whole row of boosters and guild banners I need to remember to use on any character and a row of gathering tools I’m saving for alts.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
At the very least they need to put the new currencies in the currency tab.

A wise unanticipated choice. Castling. Danger is near.

“Accidentally” knocks over chess board. Oh. What a shame. I was only one move away from winning this game. I guess we’ll go ahead and call it a win for me. Better luck next time.

I’ve been playing since release with only the “default” bank space and I have never felt as if it wasn’t enough. Stop acting so entitled.
There is plenty of space, use it wisely.
Not everything you get, you need to keep.
Deposit your materials, and salvage armor you dont use anymore. (The skins are already on your account anyway.)
Buy bigger bags and carry some things with you.
If you really feel like hoarding, buy gems or convert gold to gems and get more bank space.
You can do whatever you want to get it, but the means are there if the default isn’t enough FOR YOU specifically. Just know that there are PLENTY of people that haven’t needed more sapce that have been playing for MUCH longer than you have.
and there are plenty of people like me who has been playing a long time and know that the default bank space is a JOKE.

If it’s a joke, it’s a joke that’s worked fine for lots and lots of people.

more people in this thread seem to think that it’s fine than not. Why aren’t these lots and lots of people here complaining then?
I mean I know that forums tend to not represent majority of the population, but more often than not people go to the forums when they’re displeased with something.

Because this thread indicates the population right?.. This thread has simply be bombarded by the white knight crusade, nothing more.
I thought it was awful so I opened up my wallet and bought bank slots. I figured the game was worth a few bucks a month to me, seeing as how they don’t charge by the month and the last time I had to pay was almost 3 years ago.

by the way, most people commenting here, I don’t see them white knighting like crazy all over the place (except Vayne, sorry Vayne but it just so happens that you’re quite the figure).
If it was an actual problem you would expect people complaining in game and being rallied here (at least that’s what we did in Wildstar, plus topics like NPE, traits and SAB also prove that something that is actually problematic will get unbelievable amount of responses).
As it just so happens I haven’t seen anyone in game complain about this on map chat, in my guild or anything like that (even though lots of things get discussed, starting from the new black wings, finishing with racism. Map chat tends to be a very chatty place) and the general consensus of this thread is that the bank space is fine.
Only reason the 2 bank tabs I’ve got are nearly full is because one has harvest tools in it, and the other has a bunch of carapace kitten I havent figured out if I want to use or sell.
