I played during launch and obviously tons of areas were just filled constantly with players, which made the world events in the immediate area more enjoyable. I took a break from the game as college demanded me to do so but now I finally have some spare time to play and I made a new character. An Asura thief to be exact, and to my dissappointment I hardly see anyone around the areas I level in, much less likely to complete open events as well. Will this change later on as I level higher?

There is no unique loot for world events so people just don’t care.

No it will end up like every other MMO. You will always find people in the lowbie zones piddling around on alts or whatever but in the middle of the game people will blaze through those areas and never go back. So this will only get progressively worse…

Hmm, well I’m on a full server, so where are all the players? Any specific area? And whats the goal for max levels? Raids? PvP?

I actually like it better with only few other players around than the event bosses dying within a few eyeblinks because there was a huge player zerg at launch. Now I actually get to participate in combat and use all the skills I have.
Also I’m not the type of player that needs a cookie or a number going up in some panel for everything I do, I just enjoy doing the content and what I choose to do at a particular moment is whatever I’m in the mood for.
This might be going to a low level zone I like, running a dungeon, WvW, sPvP, crafting, kegbrawling, jumping puzzles, try different builds, play an alt or whatever pops into my mind.
So for me the goal at max level is basically to enjoy myself doing the same stuffs I enjoy while levelling

edit: Oh and note that I’m not a casual player (I don’t like that terminology but seems forum posters love to apply tags to each and everyone). I play 3-4 hours per day on weekdays and 16 hours per day during week-ends and have done so consistently since headstart.

Pretty much this. One problem is that when you down level the loot tables sort of suck. So at 80 you’ll kitten yourself going back to old zones for fun. Dungeons are the exception because of the tokens.

I’ve been levelling an alt the past week, mostly in Lornar’s and Dredgehaunt. On one hand, I like the zone being mostly empty, just every so often seeing another player.

But the reality is, the zones aren’t designed for solo play. Certain classes can deal with it better, but its just frustrating. Respawn times are too fast in certain areas – if you’re trying to reach a PoI, skill challenge or vista, by the time you clear a few mobs, the first one has respawned.

Many events (not just world bosses) don’t properly scale down to just 1 player. One veteran mob is okay, but when its got a small horde of trash mobs, 1 player is not enough. Wave style events also scale poorly to 1 player – again, certain classes can deal with it better, but others cannot. Anet did not take a long term view regarding the non-70-80 level zones.
