Hey Arena Net team, and community,

I just wanted to express my feedback on the current story structure for the game. I quit this game some time ago (about 2.5 years ago). With the recent sale on the expansion, I thought I may return to play. Before purchasing it, I logged in to play, and saw that I was pretty far behind in the story. I looked at the prices to get myself caught up, and the cost is insanely high. I have no desire to purchase the expansion, if I am not caught up in the story, and that upfront cost is just way too high. It’s only getting higher.

Anyway, I just wanted to let you (Arena Net) know that your current model is keeping some players away. It would have been better to just keep the store for other items.

If I am wrong about something (i.e. say the expansion includes all living story updates up to the expansion, or something), please let me know.

If you only want to see the story you can do that for free by doing it with someone who does own it. You just don’t get the achievement points or rewards.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

Or you can farm up some gold and buy Season 2 from the gem shop. LS1 is not available, so other than a “what did you miss” recap, so nothing to buy there. I don’t know if the Season 3 chapters are available yet. Depending on when you logged in, you may have gotten 1 or 2 of the 3.

@Just a flesh wound, you mean party with someone who has completed and then enter the instances? Won’t I miss out on cutscenes and/or NPC chatter, though?

@DeanBB Yeah, I considered that. Is there a good way to farm gold? I have about ~50 gold, and I saw that I can purchase gems in increments of 400 to get 2 living story updates, I need 111 gold.

Old methods, like Silverwastes, and new methods, like HoT AB multi-farm. Don’t know what that is? Look in the forum a bit. You’d have to play into HoT a while, anyway.

Personally, other than achievements, rewards, etc, I don’t think you’re missing much with the story.

Ah, that’s too bad. The story is the main reason I’d want to return. I loved the Guild Wars 1 story, and while I was disappointed with Guild Wars 2’s main story, I thought the living story was picking things up prior to me quitting.

Thanks for the responses.

No, I mean do it along with someone who is doing it for the first time or who is doing it again for the achievement points. Many people want help for achievements. Let your guildies and friends know youd like to tag along or will help out.

You can farm for gold. Iron, platinum and various lumber sell pretty well. If you don’t mind taking a few days and doing farming runs you can get the gold that way. Especially if you can refine raw mats to planks and ingots.

ANet may give it to you.

The Living Story is repeatable so if you form a party with someone who has it unlocked you won’t be entering a completed instance, you’ll be playing through it from the start exactly as if you were doing it yourself. And if you let them know you’re doing it to see the storyline they shouldn’t skip any cut scenes or dialogue.
